NEW Lumintop Torpedo - discussion thread

Looks like the DQG Bulllet has a facelift by Lumintop LOL

Nice light, how the tail clicky work?

says "electronic switch"

maybe the driver is placed in the tailcap?

It looks stunning.

Obviously the new guy at China quality goods had sold the design to lumintop.

Looks nicely enhanced by them in every way.

The design enhancements look stunning. A bit like the Fenix 15th anniversary one.

Lovely piece of kit.

A little fancy light but nothing I’ll buy for myself. Quite expensive!

May be like Lumintop Tool Ti

Torpedo is a trademarked flashlight name by MatchboxInstruments in Japan.

I like it a lot, even the decoration on the brass, and nice one with the electronic switch too. Certainly a light I will buy, if the UI is good and the led is swappable.

Cool does any one have a light from this company?

I have 5.

Wowzer Dale i was also looking at the price lol! Very unique designs. You can not beat made in japan quality!

What if… what if you had an idea, sunk a few tens of thousands of dollars into it and had it produced? What if you took it to another level and had another idea? Working your job, going home to your wife and kids, spending side time making a few flashlights for sale? This is MBI. His job is intense, he is required to not have a personal public “face” and so he is The Guy With No Name. The Torpedo was one of his last productions, very elaborate, capable of multi-cell power supply and able to be shortened for 10180 Li-ion or lengthened for 10440. Also able to take an AAA alkaline.

Small one man show, but patented nonetheless.

Can’t wait to see Zeus…

Sorry mate i didn’t mean it in bad way! I understand! I use to own a cafe i worked 16 hour days in a hot kitchen i know the feeling! One man operation will always be hard. Some times its good to be around other people. No matter what you always pay premium for Japanese made goods. just look at difference with Japanese lithium ions and NiMH compared to cells from other countries.

What if… that’s Guy’s starting point. He literally had need of a small light and asked himself “What if?” and that’s how it all got started. He designed a light, had prototypes made (repeatedly, he’s very exacting!) and eventually his Core Ti went into production. The idea behind it was to have a light on your person, ready, at the core of things as it were, so you would never be caught in the dark. I use mine regularly but I don’t wear it on a chain. And I’ve customized it (of course!) with an Opal I found online, carved in back to hold a Tritium vial, so the opal “switch” glows in the dark.

I have an Titanium HF on my keychain, along with a Copper HF with Nichia 219 and a spare cell in an 10440 holder that replaces the short 10180 battery tube on the keychain lights. This cell also works in my Texas Poker, so at all times I have no less than 3 lights and a common replacement cell that will fit any of the 3. (Also sometimes carry a Delrin battery safe with a second spare in my pocket.)

I don’t carry my Torpedo often, but have one all the same. As well as another Ti HF in front of me on the shelf above the computer. This one has a zoomie head, the HF-R, as Guy calls it.

Eh? Dont say that to a german

That Torpedo thread from matchboxindustries is like a never ending story, i followed it since years  I guess that light will be finished after i bite the dust :stuck_out_tongue:

I have the Torpedo light in hand and have had it for a couple of years now. The Zeus is a work in progress, where Guy designed the driver from the ground up as well as every other aspect.

Why not say that Japan has fine quality to a German? I’m caught in the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal… 11 million lies to their faithful customers. Impeccable eh?

I just realized that this lumintop “torpedo” is the exact same light as the SS Bullet I have from several years ago, CNCG I believe…

Edit: Wrathbringer saw it right off the top, somehow I missed it, while it looked familiar I just totally didn’t catch it was the same with the brass ring and flames added and a trit slot cut in the switch button. This little Bullet was given to me several years ago by a friend I modded a different light for.

Culm down, i never said japan quality is bad, it was like a joke because he said you can not beat japan quality. Japan and germany are actually famous for quality like switzerland, the US and others.

To be honest with you i wish i would own a volkswagen Diesel as an US Customer because from what ive read the owners getting some good deals from volkswagen unlike ppl in europe. If i got it right, volkswagen plans to buy the cars back from the customers or pay them money? That emission scandal was not nice but it has not so much to do with quality, its more a decision of some individuals in the volkswagen company. Volkswagen will not be the last company with an emission scandal.

Yeah, I know, and the car is built like a tank. Shame the decision makers had to go and screw it all up with something that doesn’t even really affect the newer models. So sure, maybe there are rules and guidelines, but they’re unreasonable. A ship crossing the ocean, trains pulling cargo, truckers on the road, an active volcano for crying out loud… a few VW’s with smart ECU’s isn’t going to have nearly the global impact they say it will.

I like quality, regardless where it comes from. Bureaucrats, not so much.

Looks much like my DQG Bullet, but nicer. Since the “working voltage” is up to 4.2v, can a 16340 be used?
