Thrunite TN 42 ,a new record in Throw

Hmmmm, interesting assessment. :+1:
Not very accurate at all mind you, nor based on much of anything other than your opinion and that you “expected more from the TN42”; which all has nothing to do with fact.
What were you “expecting”? Did you want a thrower or something with a bunch of spill?
:person_facepalming:
Your post leaves me wondering what your motives were in making it……
You post no numbers or any of your testing results. Just an opinion base on ???

EDIT: Oh yeah… what makes the UI better in the K70??? Please, educate me with some facts.

Great throwing light, until the next bigger reflector light comes out, no? Not like anybody on any of the forums actually designed and produced it! Nice job Thrunite! And it seems there is the potential for tweaking this one too!

50% bump in kcd and better than a blu-ish tint, foggy, whiney K70 in 7 months is pretty good. The High Intensity versions of the CREE LED's were announced in April of 2015, and still make the best stock throwers - nothing new for 1 1/2 years - now that's honest facts.

Back at it again Seery? Aren’t you the same guy that bashed the TM16GT, and said that it threw worse than the original TK75? While everyone else said otherwise.

seery, to me this is classic choice-supportive bias. I’m guessing you own a K70?

Both lights are very bright, but the TN42 is a bit brighter. If you can’t handle not having the brightest light, just buy the TN42 and spare us your attempts to justify your purchase.

Thank you Dale.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge with the eye , without a side by side comparison.

Did you sell them because they had worse throw than your TK75? Or because the Fenix logo is nicer?

I have a pint and I’m telling you I don’t think a quart is bigger.

Thank you… that gives (would give) me something to make a decision about. :+1:

Nah, I’m just sick and tired of people bashing stuff because of being biased.

+1
I agree……… :+1:
And I would add to that, using vague innuendo mirroring personal opinions or preferences and not facts.

I’ve discussed with friends here for some time how it’d be cool to actually go downrange and try to read something by the output of the flashlight at X range. Like, as I’ve posed, if a girl wrote her phone number on the inside of a matchbook cover could you read it with me shining the light from that range? So last night I had the wife assist me, we were on the phone with each other and organized the details between cars and such, and she could actually read by the light produced by the TN42 from a mile away. I turned it off and she was cast into darkness. Very noticeable difference in having the light on or off, she said. I had the light clamped onto my tripod, camera on top of the tripod, so it was stable and the target aim was repeatable.

But the situation there on our country road was not amicable toward me getting the shot with my camera. So, I scouted the area on Google Earth and found a new location. We went this afternoon and scouted the two sites in real time to make sure it was feasible. We’ll be shooting from across the lake, a mile between shores with zip between us. Tonight it might be raining, but this week for sure… new moon on Friday so each night from here out all week will be darker and darker. Last night was perfect because heavy storm clouds had all stars and moon blocked off. But it was very humid as well as other issues. I’m hoping that when this system moves out the air will be nice and clear and we’ll get the shots.

We plan to have 2 tripods, she’ll have my little Canon G1X with her to get a shot of the paper with text, as lit by the TN42 a mile away across the lake. I’ll have my Canon 7DMkII and EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS with the IS turned off for a more stable shot on the tripod. If all goes well, we’ll have the shot from both ends and definitively show a discernible text lit by an LED flashlight a mile away.

Wish us luck!

That sounds great…… good luck!!!

Hmmm, what if I could pull it off to have my wife shine a green laser at me across the lake, lining up the TN42 directly into that laser for spot-on accuracy?

I need a guy to help me, my wife doesn’t care enough to get it this right…

Wish I were somewhere even semi-close… I would be glad to volunteer for this mission…………

Cool, I think we all appreciate the work that goes into a beamshot like that.

I estimate that the TN42 hotspot is about 45 meters wide at 1 mile. Pretty amazing how narrow these thrower beams are.

Astonishing to me that an LED can throw so far, especially a factory made light without modification. Someone has been paying attention, for sure!

I’m not sure there’s a “hot spot” left out at the mile mark. Remember that throw is calculated at having 1/4 lux at the maximum distance, or essentially the point where the lights output is equivalent to a full moon in brightness. So while it might indeed throw very far, it’s not like it’s still bright at that distance.

What I really like is how bright it is at 500-600 yards, or less. Sure, there are lights than put light out to 300-400 yds, even 500 or 600. But can you actually see the difference between a dog and a coyote under those beams? With this TN42, the sheer amount of power it still has at 500-600 yards makes it easy to identify cows in the herd, calves as compared to dogs or coyotes, or even if it’s a spotted skunk or one with two striped compared to one stripe. (we have 3 main kinds of skunks here.)

I can’t see a mile, but having this much power at half that far is very helpful!

Remember what rdrfronty and manxbuggy1 did? Big banner, then zoomed in, but they weren't that far apart, but they had a nice range with markers at different distances in one shot. here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/22397#node-25932 and here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/25465. I keep those bookmarked.

I thought about calling them in on this. They’ve been planning on coming over for a while now, both have some new guns to shoot and I have a lot of new lights since the last time we hooked up. Not sure if rdrfronty is still interested in the lights, but he’d be happy to help…. after he got his hands all beat up with the cannon’s he prefer’s these days! lol
