[PART 1] Official BLF GT Group Buy thread. Group buy officially closed! Lights shipping.

The Courui is too small for 120mm reflector. A new body is required. Or if you are talking about just internals mod then the main problem of the courui is the awkward driver, and electronic switch. If it had tail switch with normal switch, and a normal driver - believe me - it would sell at least 10 times better. I know I would buy one! The driver is not even the main problem, I would even direct drive it, but it needs to be drilled, it needs a switch to be added and it is just plain too much work. As in not the work itself, but will it look nice at the end? 50/50 chance, and people dont want to have chopped stuff in hands. The Courui is perfect small thrower but it is really a letdown for modding. :frowning:

It’s really the handle that is the key, plungers with handles aren’t that common. The longer the item is, the more force is also needed to aim it.

Polls up a day and a decision has been made after a few votes, really.

Hmm OK you think these figures are not clear?
And 123 votes a few? OK it seemed clear, just look at it:

Boxy, out of the box 27% (33 votes)

Traditional “plunger” 47% (58 votes)

plungery box? I don’t care, I just love voting in polls
5% (6 votes)

Boxy but very much OK with plunger 11% (14 votes)

Plunger but very much OK with box 10% (12 votes)

Total votes: 123

Plunger 58 + 12 = 70
Boxy 33 + 14 = 47

Plunger + the 14 votes boxy stating OK with plunger = 84
Boxy + the 12 votes plunger stating OK with boxy = 59

Ergo:

Plunger + the 14 votes boxy stating OK with plunger = 84

Plunger 58 + 12 = 70

Boxy + the 12 votes plunger stating OK with boxy = 59

Boxy 33 + 14 = 47

Plunger wins I think

But the poll is open again

I would like to get on the list.

In the end it’s not really that important what the light will look like, as long as we can come to a decision and move along.
Now this has been started lots of people are getting quite impatient………(yes, I was talking about myself….)

Grtz

Oh but patience is once more key, even more then the Q8 since that is a known format and the interest list grew and grows so fast it was clear that manufacturer would not Have a big risk, just very little profit to start with yet a nice addition to line up.
Nobody voted today so I think tomorrow when west side of the world has put in some lumens it should be clear

I do not see what the point is? The XHP leds are different from XP-L and other leds, bigger and multiple dies, but not necessarily more advanced or a replacement for the smaller leds.

In that reasoning, maybe using the XHP leds is going backwards because since the XP-L2 and XP-G3 they are ‘older’ leds.

+1 w/djozz. XHP's are basically old LED's re-bundled, re-packaged, but of course with some advantages with compactness. The XHP35 HI is something unique, but the 12V requirement has to be worked with. The XP-G3 and XP-L2's are something new, but seem to have some issues, can't be de-domed with a method we all know, don't have noticeable increase in brightness bins, and don't seem to be better at throw. Only promising attributes I see so far are a lower Vf.

What have i missed? The point of a thrower isn’t maximum power? If you just want this light to be a niche go with a XHP series LED If you want a light you can actually use and carry while out and about go with a single die LED.

I guess now days you can use a XHP50/70 with a single cell and get decent run times. has any one ever made a XHP-50 thrower?

Otherwise if i wanted to use a XHP-35 it would be easier to go with a Direct drive XPL you would get the same Lux reading as a XHP-35 almost as much light no reason why the XPL can not do 1700 lumens?

You can De-dome the XPG3 just have to leave the mushy phosphorus layer on. I have been playing with a few XPG3 its possible but i am not sure how to get the layer to stay in place. I have heard lacquer works? This is above my pay grade lol. Maybe Djozz knows more then me? Have you tried to De-dome a XPG3?

I did get a bunch of XP-G3's in but haven't experimented w/dedoming. Arrow has really good prices on them, plus free shipping. How did you do the dedome? Were you able to test throw? Thought they didn't do too well. Guess if you treat it with something, that would lose some throw, like LED Seal does.

Hhmm - might be goin little off topic...

Isn’t it possible to order to Cree a quantity of XP-G3 without putting the dome on them,as the putting of the dome is the last link of the chain in the manufacturing process?

I sliced it and i half broke it? So i had the LED working good but i nicked some of the Phosphorus layer. Once that layer is gone its basically a blue laser lol The problem is unlike the other LEDs this one is layered and some what lose under the dome. Didn’t MEM say he always Dedomes them? You can do it but i am not sure how long it will last. Also the problem is because it is lose you may move some of the layer then the beam will look weird. I think the XPG3 has amazing throw stock.

How do i explain usually if i dedome a XML2 the inside is dry and there is no phosphorus layer to take of. All you lads have heaps more skill then me i am sure yous can figure it out. The beam is tighter once Dedomed.

CREE doesn't talk to us - they don't even list flashlights as a usage of their LED's. Ordering direct from CREE I understood needs 10,000+ qty minimum, something crazy like that. I never heard of ordering dedomed LED's from CREE - don't think they would be willing because it's a big time risk for them - warranties, etc...

Well I really hope we will choose a led that gives a broader beam then a pencil.
And I clearly have fallen in the marketing trap and thought XHPs, specially XHP35hi, were modern and thought a nice fit with a big light.

They are a nice fit for a big light, thats why all the other king throwers out there use them.

You can get more max throw with smaller LED’s but at the cost of lumens and beam size.

I would much prefer a light with 5-10% less total throw but 2-3x the beam size and lumens. This appears to be about the results that Dale gets from an XP-L HI to XHP35.

That is a very worthwhile tradeoff IMO.

add me for 3 pieces .

Maybe you should create a different thread for Interest , easier for you.

I found a led spotlight with 140mm alumnium reflector, so at least the reflector exists somewhere

^

You mean, at least 2 exist as the one I proposed should be a top contender performance wise.

Looking forward to learning more about this 140mm reflector. It looks potentially awesome. I like that it appears to be shallower than the 128mm I proposed.
