Gearbest discount code complaint...

Another complaint here about Gearbest…

I normally use an Ad-blocker so I don’t see the banner ads on the left side of the forum. I disabled the blocker this morning, and noted that Gearbest seems to be a sponsor now, with a banner advertising an 8% discount on Flashlights, also picturing a charger:

I need a new charger, and wanted an analyzing, so I added a Liitokala Lii-500 to my cart - Total: $24.79:

I then added the 8% off discount code:

Total after discount: $26.32! That’s an 8% INCREASE in the price, not a discount.

In addition, I can type anything I want in the discount code box; the system ACCEPTS the random entry, and then raises the price to $28.61!

I believe the 8% discount is meant for products that are not being discounted by Gearbest in the first place. At least it was something like this… But yeah, you gotta check properly for the final price…

Yeah that happens when a product is on a sale price, it gives the discount on the full price and a lot of the times the price is higher then before
A real WTfmoment first time that happened to me.
If you have an adapter ypuncan get that charger for $15 shipped on AliExpress though, this Miller coupon just gave you 40% discount

Yes, I’ve seen this behavior at GB before which, as with many of GB’s dealings, is quite shady.

The listing (as with nearly every item they sell) has a random x% off, in the case of this charger, 49% off. Adding the item to the cart shows a value of $48.64, crossed out, with their “discount” applied, which make the original price of $24.79. The 8%off discount raises the price from some other unknown price.

The acceptance of random discount codes subsequently raising the price is just another case of stupid. :person_facepalming:

Just attempting to help highlight the ongoing lack of professionalism by GB.

Okay, now I see… The $28.61 is the default value the “discount code” is applied to. Adding the random code sets to that, but doesn’t apply a “discount”. Bottom line, you have no way of knowing how much you will be charged until you actually add to your cart and prepare to check out.

The whole idea is to prevent the system to provide additional discount on discounted products.

the same principle seems to apply to “get it free” discount coupon codes. they can’t be applied to discounted products which, by default, are almost all of them?

If there is no specific coupon, it may be time lost. Generic coupons on Gearbest are generally useless with the product you want because it is “already discounted”.

Category discount codes are hardly applicable when 90% of the listed items are already discounted… this is why we have item-specific discount codes, works much better.

I updated the GearBest rating thread with a link to this post.

The whole idea is to overcharge customers, hopefully without their knowledge.

This is no different from Harbor Freight and many other retailers, the choice is Yours, Current sale price or….Coupon off regular price.
Which ever is cheaper is the obvious answer as to which you should chose.

I spent many a tour in retail and this is nothing new.
Some stores encourage you to stack discounts/coupons such as Kohls. However they make sure to start with a nice high price to begin with.
It’s all a game my friends and that is the way consumers want it.

When Saturn cars came out and had no haggle prices, consumers complained about that, can’t please everyone but by and large consumers want sales and not fixed prices.

Remember and look for these key “Lawyer Words” in ads;
Discount may have already been taken.
Previous markdowns may have already been applied.
Senior Citizen discount cannot be applied or stacked with any other offers.
Not applicable on all items including but not limited to; Bose, Oreck, Kitchen Aid, Apple, Microsoft, etc.
Some items not eligible for discounts, markdowns or coupons.
Previous sales excluded. Quantities may be limited.
We reserve the right to change or cancel promotions at any time.
And the shortest and best catch all of em all; Restrictions May Apply

You voltage may vary +/- 1-5% just like battery chargers
Later,
Keith

I have no problem with Harbor Freight… Their X% off coupons have always worked off the current marked prices, even if they are the sale prices… :sunglasses:

I need to make another trip to Harbor Freight… I need one of their disposable airless spray guns:

We just got a new shed and need to water-seal the exterior. I already have my 20% off and free multimeter coupons in hand… :money_mouth_face:

Hi keltex78,

under the blanket of the Promotion code, it shows code is exempt for VIP, special offer or groupbuy deal, and code can’t reduce from the discounted price ( it only could reduce price from full price )

more category rules and coupon could be found here

yes gearbest you have to take with great care

many coupons of them are like this 30% discount with coupon “30%off” you go to their page look for that product it cost 19.99 so you think great 30% off means 6usd less no because you get 30% of their fantasy list price after you apply the coupon the original 19.99 go up to 24.99 and you pay 18.99.

their tricks but thats just one of the easy ones their prices are good but their goods not always arrived for me then the prices are not that good anymore
