It was a little worrysome first two minutes on turbo with a cooling fan. At the two minute mark there was an audible puffing sound. First I thought that something had gone horribly wrong, but after closer inspection it was just hot air escaping through the side and ejecting the side switch. Similar thing happened with the Acebeam EC60 and its rubber usb port cover.
The light seems to ramp out the output if properly cooled. Ignore the y axis, they’re not verified lumens, but I can say that it is reaching at least the promised 8760 lumens.
Interesting. The rubber USB port cover is not designed to withstand pressure from the inside, hence air can escape (apparently) if pressure is sufficiently high as was the case with the EC60.
The fact that this (most likely) happened with the MT03 makes me wonder if this can happen with other high output lights as well. If this is not the case, then I question the water proofing capabilities of the switch of the MT03… Or perhaps the rubber button is not securely tightened from the inside?
The button has a metal bezel fastener without threads so it can just pop out if there’s enough pressure. I believe it can prevent water coming in though.
Correct. Aluminium has much higher thermal expansion than steel. Meaning, if the light gets hot, the ring’s normal force with the body reduces as well…
Got mine yesterday. This thing does put out some light! In a living room I pointed it at the corner of the ceiling and, in turbo, it bounced off all walls and clock and pictures…and hit both of us in the eye. Don’t use turbo in the house! Serious amount of light. Very nice neutral version. Outside massive flood. I did compare to the Buffalo BT07 which has serious throw for an XHP70 plus the normal amount of spill. Different topic but the MT03 is again a serious flood. It is well built. I used 4 X 18650GA 3500s.
Heh, yeah, I just showed it to my dad. He thought it was already on turbo even though it was on high, a bit of clicking and holding and BOOM, he was startled and burst out laughing.
Have you physically locked your light by screwing open the head? I’ve done it a couple of times and suddenly the thing didn’t work anymore. The driver retaining ring had come loose from all the head opening.
Typical guy thing. Couple of weeks ago I was in the woods after midnight with my lights. Cop car showed up (in the woods). Of course I had to explain what I was doing. I showed them my lights. Cop asked politely if he could play with it a bit. No problem. I gave him my Meteor M43. Told him “just press and hold the button”. He did so, and there was a wall of light in front of him. Cop was giddy as a little kid
