Review : Lumintop Prince

Disclaimer : Thank you Lumintop for sending me this free sample for reviewing purpose

Let me introduce you Prince !
Not the dead one, that wouldn’t be nice…
This one is shiny, too and brilliant ! It has a classy feeling, and keep its proportion really fit

But the comparison stops here… and you’ll all gonna sleep while listening my sweet native language and voice :

Now for the glorious pictures that a star deserves :

Size comparison with a Convoy S2+

As you can see, there’s not much to say about the finish and look of this light.
It’s a gorgeous, perfectly finished body, good sturdy belt clip.
I believe in the advertised 1000 lumens, but I hate the bluish cold white tint of the XM-L2 emitter.
The SMO reflector gives a throwy beam with a well defined hotspot.
The mode spacing is good but starts too high, it would have been better with at least a fourth mode below 10 lumens.
The tail switch has some play, it has a cheap feel that I don’t like. But it’s fixable easily.

Pros :

  • Beautiful
  • Powerful
  • Compact
  • Great holster
  • Battery supplied
  • Good belt clip

Cons :

  • Ugly bluish tint
  • too much play in the rear switch
  • A bit heavy (hey, that’s steel after all)
  • Basic 3 modes (would have preferred a ML to begin with)
  • 19mm driver, not mod friendly

EDIT :
I re-opened it, it has a copper MCPCB, though I didn’t checked if DTP or not
Good amount of thermal paste.
Someone asked me if it’s a legit CREE XM-L2, I think so but will let the experts confirm that.
Details on the 19mm driver too.

Can you confirm that it’s an XM-L2, along with where you got it?

hahahaha that intro!
nice review!

Thanks for the review. Lumintop make some pretty lights.

I’ll make a macro shot tonight, but I didn’t see anything that made me doubt.
I got it from Amazon

Thanks for the review mate! I was eyeing out buying one but I’m not to keen on the design I’d rather a plain body.

Thanks for the review! I have a brass one coming, maybe not a suitable light for modding but it does make an awesome gift.

I totally agree with you, buy a Lii100 charger and you have a wonderful gift kit !

Nice pics!
It really is a gorgeous light.
It’s a shame about its tint. At this price point I’d expect better…

EDIT of the OP for emitter and driver details

Thanks for review.
Finally my CU Prince arrived today. Already replaced the emitter.
This one has what I think is an XP-L on an Aluminum MCPCB.
Has a shallow spacer under the reflector and puts out a pretty large Spot. I kinda like it with the XP-L and the Spot it throws. There are some artifacts from the 4 cut sides of the XP-L due to the reflector depth.
Pics of what I removed.

Soldered a 16mm Noctigon directly to the pill with an XP-L V6 3C and replaced the brass button on driver with a Q-Lite spring for flat top batteries. May go triple if I get some high CRI Nichias in the [SALE] thread.

Just got in 1 copper and 1 brass - outstanding quality. The new Prince's are XP-L, not XM-L2 any longer, and are rated at 1,050 lumens now, not 1,000. My two measured right about dead-on:

  • copper measured 1,044 @30 secs (2.74A tail/clamp meter)
  • brass measured 1,020 @30 secs (2.67A tail/clamp meter)

Both on Samsung 30Q button tops. Also not a fan of the CW tint though... Does this light a dis-service.

I paid $31.59 each through the freeme deal here I think: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/36374

just got my copper in, this thing is gorgeous! the leather case is great quality, simply amazing light. any way to keep the copper in the same condition? jewelers cloth maybe?

ken

I like patina so...I would not want to keep it that way, but if you like to keep it shiny..I guess you can give it a finish...

Maybe give it a layer of polyurethane?
