1) So first of all, quick personal question, which do you think looks better (ignore everything like brand, brightness, etc. except looks):
<=?=>
2) do you think I should use flashlight #2 as a host (cheapest good looking aluminum "can" light I could find)
or use a plain aluminum tube (kinda boring imo)
or do you know / want to find me some type of metal cylinder/tube about 4"-6" diameter that looks cooler than a plain tube?
(random pic of cool looking tube that is too small in diameter)
You guys are great at coming up with creative ideas and finding stuff on the web :) Thanks!
PS. I would rather not make another PVC flashlight, so no plastics please!
Wow, that C8 needs to get out more often, eat lessand not skip its veggies.
cool looking so i say 2 as well, but I can’t really seewhat is going on with all he stuff of 1
Thanks for the opinions guys!
In case someone from the future is wondering, that second light I found is the “G&P Scorpion” aka “SterOPS SRFB-10F” aka “Phoebus Horizon HID”
Clearly these three brands are getting their lights from the same OEM
I liked #2 looks better, but $350 is the cheapest?? As soon as I saw the price it became the ugliest light I have ever seen. :zipper_mouth_face: And that’s for a light that would need to be heavily modified if you were thinking LEDs.
You are better off having a custom body made for you or making one yourself I think. The reflector in these HID lights wouldn’t work for an LED either
Btw, here is the only review on the Amazon listing for the Hellfighter (3000lumens):
I bought a cheap $20 can light from fasttech that is about the size of an SRK.
Problem 1) cheapest material possible, plastic and crappy aluminum, even the handle was plastic.
Problem 2) even with a 4x18650 body my electronics are too big to fit inside :C
Problem 3) the boss1 and SRK only have about 60-80mm diameter head, I’m looking for 4”+
So yeah, that was a waste of $20…
I considered using a carbon fiber tube for the body but 4”–6” is soooo expensive.
Although by buying a light and using the body that isn’t considered a scratch build and I wouldn’t be able to enter that forum build contest for next year.
Conflicted…
hahaha yeah I saw that review xD
I searched multiple places and actually found it cheapest here for $245 USD: http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/Accessories_Flashlights_G_P_35W_HID_Spotlight.htm
However I’m now having a conversation with will about his hellfighter, so that one is under consideration too and is an extremely well known brand. (seems like nobody here had heard of the G&P light before)
I don’t know if I will do a conversion to LED, if I do then I will be ordering a reflector from optiforms or phoenix to replace the stock one. The main thing is getting a high quality aluminum host.
PS. in my other thread about custom building a flashlight body it seems like it would cost a lot more, since it would require designing, cnc lathe-ing , anodizing, etc… so paying $250 and modding is a much more appealing option.
