*2016-11-07* New: Nitecore P30

Over 600M throw from a light this size, stock? You owe it to yourself… A Very Happy Un-Birthday To Me, To me! A Very Happy Un-Birthday, To Me!

Does anyone have this and a SF 6P on hand to compare their body lengths. The 6P body is just long enough for me to hold comfortably during extended use. The body on the P30 looks a bit short to me. Curling the little finger or both the ring and little finger around the neck will not be a comfortable grip for me. Thanks.

Ok, the more I look at this the more I have to wonder, are they all like this one or is mine sub-par? What I’m talking about is the reflector. The hot spot is “soft”, not well defined. Looking into the reflector this shows as a soft reflection of the HI emitter. There are a LOT of lines under the mirror finish and it’s just not a clean smooth mirrored reflector…. so is this by design or is my sample a bad one?

Edit: I mean, seriously, this is a Nitecore flashlight. They advertise this…

Do y’all see a nice clear mirror finish in the above picture? Yeah? So do I!

Now what do you see?

This image doesn’t have my watermark on it because it’s a JPEG straight out of my Canon 7D MkII with EF-S 60mm Macro f/2.8 lens. No processing by me, no nothing. So why is my lens looking like someone tried to clean it with a cotton shirt when they advertise this high tech computer optimized perfection?

And just to show it close up at a similar angle as their advertising…

Oh and how’s the beam profile. Dim spill with an intense hotspot, so when looking into the distance, you see the spot, and around it a large dark doughnut, and then around that a dim spill doughnut? Or bright spill with a bright spot in the center? Thanks.

Astonishing that this can throw still further, if the reflector could be further polished to a shine as you suggest. Hey maybe Nitecore does put more effort into reflector design than everyone else.

Beam profile is actually very nice, no artifacts no rings. The hot spot is diffuse, not defined. Almost muddied looking.

Typical of Cree emitters there is a slightly yellow corona in a square pattern, pretty much only in white wall hunting though.

So yeah, I’m really curious if they all look like this or it’s just mine…

I’m very curious to know if your reflecter is a lemon also. If not, I wonder why nitecore chose to do that? Man if that light is moddable, putting a dd xpg2 should get you the same lumens but should hit 180 kcd?

If I can get some feedback from some other folks getting one of these I’ll make a decision on whether or not to crack it open and hand polish the reflector. From there some experimentation would show me what an end result might be.

I bought the P30 from Battery Junction. The address they list seems to be bogus, I know someone that lives in the city they’re in and after a few drive by’s he’s convinced the address is a maintenance building for a furniture plant that burned some years ago. He’s seen no signs of life around the place in the 3 or 4 drive-by’s he’s done. That makes me wonder if they’d warranty the light or not.

If other’s get this light and the reflector is beautimous, I’ll give them a call and see what they have to say…

I’ve just seen pics from another forum member of his P30, it’s just like mine. :person_facepalming:

DB, perhaps try contacting Nitecorestore.com and even Andrew and Amanda. If it’s a widespread defect, I hope they be honest about it and pull their stock.

I have contacted Andrew and Amanda before with a question about a light, and they answered. If it is a nitecore defect, I wonder what will happen?

I think the reflecter was meant to be this way for some reason. In the picture where it shows the light mounted on the rifle, the reflecter looks appears to look the same as yours

I’m thinking it’s a design they’re utilizing to diffuse the beam profile for the soft hot spot. They’re all going to look like this.

Mine should be here Friday/Saturday from A&A I’ll check it out and post! :frowning:

I sent a few pics to DB of the P30 reflector, I didn’t know how to post pics on this forum.
Anyway, my light came from Andrew-Amanda a couple of days ago.

I’ve seen that on more nitecore reflectors. I think that’s indeed a design feature to make the beam smooth.
That’s not really what ‘we’ want but what the majority wants.

My nitecore P12 reflector looks the same.
They dont use orange peel but have some sort of strong circular pattern

Also my Convoy C8 got a circular pattern in the micrometer range, but quite different than nitecore
quite what you expect from a machine made part

The smallest pattern has my Eagle Eye X6

Your eye can see even a few um of irregularity on a surface if you look at the mirror

My SS X6 is the only light I’ve had with those rings, not quite that strong though. My measured kcd was substantially lower than others who got smooth reflectors (around 25-30% lower iirc).

Sounds like with Nitecore it might be intended, and not poor QC.

How about actually measuring the lux to see if it matches spec rather than “it doesnt look smooth to me”?
Or do not many people own a luxmeter?
It definitely looks like it was done intentionally, or just how they machine the reflectors.

This isn’t something that you can easily put into a render…people should know better than to expect a finished product looking exactly like a render anyway.
