Meet "Little Nellie"

Thanks to a very kind member here who got DX to ship one to me, I finally got a host to build my new love!

She's a beautiful girl, hot and ready! Complete with attitude, very capable, and will burn your retinas out if you don't treat her nice!

Oh...... new relationships are exciting! <g>

She runs on 3 8X7135 drivers with one piggybacked on each board to allow 3A per emitter. Two of the reflectors are McGizmo 18mm, one is a cut down Ledil MC-E-S Boom. Cool white emitters from my defunct fryray. Stole the lens from my TK-35 'till I find another-fabbed a gasket to hold it in. (rests on reflectors)

Did the guts up the same way as our German friend. Used plumbing caps for heatsinks, filled them with molten solder so there wouldn't be any air space. It's a hot glue/Arctic Alumina hack job but she works fine and heatsinking is fine.

On one 26650 she'll do 5 amps. Yes, it'll fit but I used the original driver board stripped of components for battery +. And-Solarforce L2P clicky guts screw right into the tailcap! Had to make the spring very short, added a copper washer and braid for resistance fix, and used vinyl hose scrap to adapt the battery.

A 32650 will go in if the outside wrapper is stripped, but due to the poorer anodizing inside the tube, the light comes on so no go. It did 6.5A on the 32650 though.

Bezel is the original, filed/sanded/polished.

Named her Little Nellie in honor of the gyrocopter from "You Only Live Twice." Seemed a natural.

Of course now I must do a neutral!

Rich

SWEETNESS!!!

You don't think you are actually going to get away with one picture of the completed torch, do you? I want to see Little Nellie in the buff so we can check out what she's packing under that clothing of hers.

Another job well done, Rich!!

More sweetness from the light-king. :)

please?

Thanks! I do these for pretty much the same reason as Old Lumens does. I'm disabled due to lifelong mental health problems (depression for one) and lights are cheap therapy, not to mention a great confidence builder.

Oh, man... if you had any idea what it was like to fit the plastic trims between the reflectors and to get the lens to sit just right... ain't gonna take this one apart! She doesn't like to be messed with. Took a long time to get everything 'just so.'

More pics when I'm not lazy, cold and tired. I did wanna get a quick one up though.

Believe me, it looks almost like Daysoft's (Thanks, Day!!) on the inside:

BTW, it took a good 4-5 nights nonstop to do this one from taking apart to final pimping. Hard mod.

Rich

Man, I'm at work, so I can't even see the dang pictures, but when I get home after midnight, I expect to come here and see pics, pics, pics....Tongue Out Please?

Ha, I know it must be a good build, I'm waiting anxiously till I get home to see the pics...

No flashlight porn for us? That’s OK, we unnerstand! It’s cool…

I sure could use one of those for these up and coming cold nights lol. Hand warmer indeed.

Well you got to let us see her guts [ spill time ] = Pictures more !

Now you see what Old Lumens started! Geesh man! You've got everyone modding these SAIK's! Even I'm on the bandwagon! Just ordered one today (along with some empty p60 pills - thanks JohnnyMac).

My mod won't be anywhere near as good lookin' as this beauty! Great job!

Garry

(Awful lot of us Pennsylvanians involved here.)

-Garry

very nice! I'm not surprised if the insides look a little unconventional...how else could one cram all that in there!

did you use 1/2" plugs? Home Depot (the 2 stores I checked) doesn't stock them. Just 1/2" caps (they have 3/4" plugs though).

did you strip the bezel for looks (it does look good) or because a mod stripped some of it?

so, no naked pics...but do we at least get some beamshots?

Being as I am a New York (state) Yankee, hiding out in TX, I’m supposed to incite people to riot, even if it’s just modding flashlights. That’s what us Yanks do. Surprised

I have been through PA once or twice (30 years ago), are all the rural telephone poles still only 4' tall?Wink

Good to see more mods. That's our mantra, More Mods, More Mods, More Mods.

i don't blame you if you don't want to take it apart, but can we get beamshots? thanks, great job!

I finally got home and got to see this.Cool Great Job!

I really like that SAiK, even though (I agree) it is a hard mod, it's rewarding too.

Another great mod. Looks really nice. I have one of these lights sitting at home, but m wife keeps using it and won't let me borrow in back to mod it.

Might have to order another to mod.

I wanted a 2D mag style host for doing a similar project... but can't find anything decent around.

Awesome job but inside pics please! :)

Bump for new folks.
