Mod: LuckySun F3X

AliExpress is also now accepting PayPal!

(At least, they sent me an email saying they are…)

I’m not sure about how that works though, could it be that every ali-store must incorporate Paypal individually?

Haven’t looked into it yet, too broke. :frowning:

Does this fx3 have the finish and build quality of the d80. The d80 is still my favorite clicky switch light:)

It does have that finish. what disappoints are:
-the output, just 1000 lm
-the old gen. leds
-the non-DTP ledboard
-the driver looks well-made but is totally wrong: low freq. PWM and impossible UI.

AlieXpress had to do away with their AliePay and replaced it with PayPal.
I believe during check out process PayPal will now be in the slide out bar of additional payment methods, I can check on this for a more definite explanation but have heard of the problems and saw the warnings of AliePay going to the wayside on Jan 1, 2017.

Djozz, did you get my PM or did I forget to send it…? Sometimes you know I screw up and think I did something and didn’t…?

Edit: By the way did I mention I also ask dumb questions sometimes, how about I just look in my messages sent thing, geez… :person_facepalming:

My horrid memory is rubbing off on BLF members, OH NO!

Ha Ha Yes it is Dale, I’m trying to reply to you and I am sitting here somewhat dumb founded but loving ever thought that is going through my head re: F3 Slayer… haha WOW … :smiling_imp:

Well, the D80 got pretty popular, somehow folks missed this bigger brother the F3X, but I’m betting an even larger bigger brother would capture some attention. Maybe stay with the F3X 26650 layout, increase the diameter and depth of the head but maintain the profile for the “family look” and use a reflector that would achieve some nice throw, could be a pretty sweet deal for Lucky Sun and give us a new platform to try out emitters.

Edit Out my comment, I think I need to start a new F3 thread, I feel I shouldn’t be hijacking Djozz mod thread with the comments re: the future of a F3 if that makes sense,
I am going to contact the fella and let him know what’s going on and I agree completely with you Dale, very doable project I believe and I also believe they want to get moving as soon as possible.

I’m perfectly fine with using this thread for future F3X plans.
(I saw your PM but have not replied yet  Some PM’s need a bit more dedication to answer than others)

Oh, Thank you djozz I fully understand, I just wanted to respect your thread and hard work and got sort of lengthy with me comment as always, but thanks, and when you can and get caught up I’d like to get your thoughts and input on this F3, Dale’s got some great ideas and I know you do also so take care of things and when you get around to it, I’ll be here, Thanks for permissions though, … G.

Wondering how this reflector would work in F3?
Eason sent me a couple lights and should be here this week.

Eehhm, I do not understand, that picture shows the huge reflector from that Bronte 3xXHP70 light, what does that have to do with the much smaller F3X ?

That’s not the Bronte light, the bezel is black on the pic above. Bronte’s bezel is silver colored, and the scallops in the bezel are sharper.

That’s the 3xXHP plunger-style light that cnqualitygoods was carrying a while ago.

It’s similar to this: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10019753/4173500-edc-light-led-flashlight except that version was XHP70.

But either way, that head would NOT work at all on an FX3. The FX3’s appeal is the micro-sized triple reflector head.

You win… that is exactly what that is and I’m just thinking style design not overall size of the one in the picture, but reason is that Dale mentioned going big or not going at all and talking 3 XHP50 and being I haven’t had a F3X in my hands since about the end of 2014 but do have one somewhere coming, I can’t really envision what I’m talking about frankly, but something down these lines with a bigger head design that I’ve talked to Eason about and longer/deeper and much more, that’s why I have tried to reach out for opinions… and Dale, well you know Dale, it’s either a barn burner or forget it basically, busy fella to mess around with a junk project so I’ve told just that to Lucky Sun and they’re mostly ready to start ASAP…
And by the way CNquality is still selling those I was just there today and that is why this caught my eye, I’ve had a reflector triple with those angles put not for big die LED like that and it was a really good thrower, so just thinking basically, I know dangerous…

Actually, I bought the F3X with the intention of putting 3x XHP50s in it.

There are several major problems, though. The MCPCB is unusually thin, nothing off-the-shelf from Noctigon will work. The pill that the MCPCB sits on threads into the head in reverse, you have to take the reflector out to thread the pill out the front. Last killer issue is the pill and head are extremely thin and light, there is NO significant mass for sinking. Additionally, I’m not fully confident of the heat transfer from pill to head, and even if it were good, it wouldn’t help as the head weighs almost nothing.

Buuuut, if you stick to XM-L2s for replacement LEDs and make this a super-sized Astrolux S41, it’s actually rather good. But for XHP50s, it’s not good IMO.

Oh, and if you’re willing to replace the driver entirely and drop the mis-matched extension tube, running a single 26650, this would make for a killer D80 on steroids.

I like the F3X for this exact reflector size, the light will loose its good looks and good feel when a bigger head is made. I agree on the bit clumsy way the pill is fitted in and would like to see a shelf design without pill like the D80. I do not agree on creating more mass in the head, I’d rather see a good heat path to that generous amount of fins to get rid of the heat rather than sink it in a chunk of aluminium.
