ENEDED

$50 still sounds high for a group buy price….especially with all the interest. We should be shooting for around $42.

Are there any reviews yet?

As i said in a previous post i’m interested. This light looks like a baby SRK  with similar output… However i’m curious to see how long it can withstand 2500 lumens. I hope it does not behave like the Manker MK34.

Technically i’m wondering how sound is this design… Why bother with seven leds when you can achieve the same output with a single XHP50 or 70? I understand it would need a boost driver though… That may be why?

It’s dedicated to Scaru.

For me it’s charisma.

That’s a name we’ve missed for awhile.

I like the 7 light set up. It’s the light those cheap $0.99 should be and they do bear a similar shape and LED count. It’s the mini soda can light. It’s the one you tell your brother you modified from the store yesterday after watching a YouTube video.

In my little and insignificant opinion on DQG lights, the mode spacing is better in real life. I have three great general purpose levels on my tiny AA, and four great general purpose modes on my Tiny 18650 V3 and V4.

In person and on paper, these things are different. The Tiny 18650 has NO MOON! Dealbreaker for some, but the low on it is low enough to use in a wake-up-in-the-dark setting without FUBARing your vision, and conversely, strong enough to be usefull in most dark situations.

Still, there is no perfect, all in one level, or set of levels. DQG is a small designer who likes lights, I will give this one a go, as I have some of his previous lights, and they are good for me…

Well, if you’re happy with it, that’s fine, but a jump from 8lm to 250lm is not acceptable IMHO in a small light. That’s like going going from low to turbo in the lights we were using 10 years ago. We wouldn’t have been happy with 2 mode lights with that spacing then and no maker tried that, so why should we accept that jump now? Nobody said it needs to have 10 modes, but why can’t they be evenly spaced in terms of how our eyes perceive changes in brightness?

2500, 800, 250, 8 should be 2500, 800, 250, 80, 25, 8 to have relatively even mode spacing.

7 LED’s in this small of a light!

I want the BOOM!! WOW!! FRIGGAN YEAH! factor….1 mode for me, thats all I need
I’ll be cool like that

10 years ago you didn’t have 2500 lumens in a light with a 1 1/4” head that fit in your palm.

10 years ago you didn’t have a 5000mAh 26650 Li-ion.

10 years ago a lot of us had hair. :stuck_out_tongue:

A lot of things change, we learn to roll with the punches.

Edit: I personally don’t care a lot about the driver either way. I’ll most likely build a new one with ramping firmware and run with it.

Like I said, its my own insignificant opinion. No tests as of yet, and there are never any exaggerations or mistranslations during new light releases. Yes, 8 to 250 lumen is a large jump…

It is also a flooder, so if it covers twice the area with the beam, it is only going to appear as bright (to the eye) as a 62 lumen spot… with 4x the area…

At 800 lumen, 4x 200 lumen spot side by side (like a quad spot, not on top of each other) and at 2500 lumen, about like 4x 625 lumen spots in a quad formation.

Interested depending on price.

Any word on when the GB is happening?

I like the look of this one, am already getting excited about it and almost paid full price plus expedited shipping to go ahead and get one!

Not a one of those facts has anything to do with mode spacing or the number of levels. It’s not like achieving those characteristics limit you to only 4 brightness levels and dictate the mode spacing the light has. Just because some aspects of the performance are evolutionary and new doesn’t mean we should have to accept needless compromises elsewhere.

This is like arguing that a 3 speed automatic transmission is acceptable in a modern sports car because other technical aspects of the car’s performance weren’t possible 20 years ago. :person_facepalming:

Loosing perspective. This light is not the tactical pro, It’s a toy. I say this because it’s all FLOOD and too small for turbo heat dissipation. Throw only through sheer output. Being a floodlight only a few modes are needed; room, garage, backyard and across the road. That’s low, medium, high and turbo. I don’t want anymore modes. No clicking though the over complicated or extended menu.

Very relevant, as we didn’t have 2500 lumens in a light to space out the modes by. We didn’t have drivers to have modes, for that matter. On/off. Now we want it all.

5000mAh capacity gives us options we didn’t have then, for sure. How can you say it’s not relevant?

Mode spacing and power of levels is as much about preserving battery life as anything else, the visible light produced is all a perception of your eyes and of course your eyes adjust to available light, how else did we live with 20 lumen incan MagLites all those years?

And for the transmission, give me 3 or 4 speeds over 10 any day. I got tired of shifting 10 speeds a LONG time ago! But seriously, for every driver that is designed, there’s a gazillion ways to arrange the modes. Which do you go with? This light is made by and probably for an end user, a guy that likes lights. He likes the high end, obviously, and tossed in a low mode for the folks that have argued it so highly. I build my own drivers, set up the spacing to suit me, and if I were selling lights I’d still put a driver in it with spacing that I personally like, if someone didn’t like my own choices they could change them or pass it up. You cannot please everyone, you just can’t. At the end of the day, you DO have to accept how the light is made. Your choice whether or not to buy it. Even your choice whether or not to debate it’s merits, but that won’t get the light changed.

As has already been said, a floody light has a lower apparent brightness level based purely on the coverage it provides. I’m sure that had a lot to do with the choice in mode spacing here. For an idea how this works, take the reflector off a preferred light and shine it in mule configuration, bare emitter. That spot being gone changes things a lot! It’s still making the same output as it was before, bit visually it’s nowhere near the same.

Somewhere along the way BLF has become demanding. Where we used to be all about modding a budget light, now everyone seems to think manufacturers are duty bound to answer to our every whim. What happened to modding? Fix it up exactly how you like it, have fun with it, then there’s some pride in knowing you accomplished what the manufacturer couldn’t.
