Took a better look at the S3 Host. Appears it now has the Flat Black finish as on the newer production models. I like that. But no pocket clip groove… don’t know why not. I would never “deep pocket” an 18650 light. Maybe a clip on a pocket.
I just bought it to try something different than the S2 or S2+ I have too many of already. Wanted to get an S4 before they are NLA. Maybe I should have gone S4 just to have one. My S3 Host is not at the top of my build list.
Idk if the integrated head really makes that much of a difference here. The pill is a lot of mass — in fact that extra mass is a big draw for me — and has quite a few threads into the head. On a triple mod, an S2+ can be scalding hot in under 30 seconds, depending what you put in it. I almost prefer slower thermal response to protect my hand.
True. I’m really surprised Convoy hasn’t made that metal clicker switch available as an accessory or upgrade for their other lights, considering how popular it is. They’d sell a ton.
Hehe, the integrated shelf is the only reason why I chose the S3 for my triple. I made it dual switch. With a pill that would have been way too much work.
Of all my Convoy lights, I think the S3 has the most premium look and feel, which would be improved further if it also had a metal clickie. If it had a removable pill and the battery tube were 2mm longer, I’d be willing to dump my other Convoys and have a fleet of S3’s.
The s3 is my favorite I’ve the convoys by far. It’s small and just feels like a nice light. However, it’s the anodizing on the grey version that I like so much. I have one triple 219c and one with single 219b. Great lights!
It seems funny to me that some think removable pills are easier to mod.
I got a S5 host just for s&g, but haven’t done anything with it yet.
As far as I’m concerned the S# series seems like just a variation on a theme, ie, they’re all tube-lights with just minor tweaks here and there, whether for æsthetics or whatever. The S3 has that chromy ring in front, otherwise to me, I wouldn’t be able to tell it apart from an S2 or S2+.
Are there any substantive differences between the S-series lights? I could see if one were a twisty with no tailcap (ie, much more compact), or one defaulted to a shorty tube for 18350/16340, etc., but as I mentioned, the main differences just seem to be looks.
I have always hated that split tail . Flashlights are unstable enough without making them stand on their tippy toes … I like the feel of the s2+ ano and the shape of the S6 / Xaiozhi.
Hum, can’t be sure as I don’t have an S3, but the groove on the S3 seems to be smaller (in height) than the clip “arm”! It also appears to be less deep than those of the S2 and S2+ :zipper_mouth_face:
Good observation about the groove not being wide enough for the clip. I blew up the picture and it appears you are correct. I’ll order the screw-on pocket clip instead, but will get the Convoy pocket clip anyways and report back once I’ve test it.
I guess there’s a reason why the S3 is not listed for the clip.
Yup, that seems to be the reason NeutralFan! It is not deep enough!
BTW, I guess the member WestBam has or had an S3, maybe you can check on him that possibility!
Here’s his review: Convoy S3 8x7135 review
Anyway, ordering the screw on will probably be a safer option!! Glad it helped :+1:
Looks pretty good tkd15 and thanks for posting a picture! I do see how it bulges out a little though. Does it feel pretty secure, or does move around? The clips on my S2+ and JAXMAN E2L do not move at all.
Yes, it can move a little bit. I thought about fixing it but haven’t done so. Your question does urge me to do it. So today, I use electric grinder to file the inner side of the arms and now it feels pretty secure .
