[Ended]Groupbuy : Utorch UT01 (XP-L , AA & 14500 battery , e-switch etc)

ordered 3

Thanks got the driver out

For getting it back in, it can be a PITA. I tried by hand and it took a lot of play'n. I changed to using a SS tweezers, and was much easier. The SS tweezers I use have very fine tips, so the tips can fit in the tiny thru holes in the ground ring. Using the tweezers, it was easy to simply plop it down in the proper position.

Just received my order of 6 NW from Gearbest. One is DOA. Of the 5 others: 2 have “flaky” switches that work intermittently, and all are very picky about batteries. None of them will work with AW or Trustfire 14500 batteries, but only with Efest brand. They will also not work with Nice brand primary lithium, but they do work with Energizer L91s. They also seem to work with Eneloops with no problem.

I have submitted a claim for the defective light to GB, and I am hoping they give credit. While I do like the NW tint these lights have, I am not impressed with the overall quality they offer.

Received my NW. Works great and quality is very nice. Still waiting for a CW I couldn’t resist ordering at $13.5 (after points)

Looks like the simple mods I did on the UT01 solved all my flaky switch/mode changing problems. Been unable to repeat the issue since after lots of clicks, sitting it down for a while, re-testing later, etc.

  • replaced LED wires from ~26 AWG with 24 AWG, slightly shorter, and ensure the LED+ wire where soldered on the driver doesn't come close to the edge
  • added little bit of solder on driver ground ring in two sections, cleaned w/isop. alcohol, treated with small amount of NO-OX-ID
  • added little bit of solder on contact ring of tail PCB, cleaned w/isop. alcohol, treated with small amount of NO-OX-ID

That was it, not much. Not sure what did it, but it's mode switching is much more reliable, output measured is about the same. Ohhh - it could not have been the tail contact because it was flaky with the tailcap off and grounding the batt- to the battery tube. Probably was 1st or 2nd mod, but who knows - sometimes taking things apart and putting back together fixed things, or can break things...

Received mine yesterday. Luckily, no problems with switching.

I missed this thread, is the CC still good or has the deal passed?

Thank you giorgoskok

Just ordered one in CW. I’ve been looking for a light just like this as a secondary in my EDC pack. This will do nicely!

I received a CW version yesterday. Everything seems OK, except a UT02 manual was included instead of a UT01 manual.
I have Nitecore and Xtar 14500 cells but they are too long. I’d like to buy some Efest purple 14500 IMR cells. Should I choose button tops or flat tops?
Thanks in advance, and thanks to giorgoskok for arranging the group buy

I use Efest purple flat top in mine. I don’t have any button tops so I can’t comment on whether they fit.

I use flat top efest purple IMR in this light with no problems. It also works with generic button top non-IMR 14500 cells I got from Amazon. Although they struggle to deliver full current at the high setting.

I’m late to the party, but I’d like to join the groupbuy.
Thanks for organizing!

Thanks, giorgoskok. I finally purchased one.

Not sure what the problem is at GB. My order was refunded. Item said it was in stock (still does). It took the CC and I used PP. They refunded the order the next day (today).

Just ordered NW.
Hoping for the best…

Code for 1 NW and 1 CW please.

Can anyone confirm what is the lumens number on highest mode for Eneloops? Thanks!

x2… does anyone have eneloop Lumen numbers? I would expect it to be in the vicinity of 400L on a cold start since it uses the Manker E11 driver. Very impressed with this little guy. I have been EDC’ing it on holiday travel. Considerably smaller than the quark AAt it replaces.

Uh - think I do, or can, but don't have the numbers hear right now.
