WTB Maratac AAA Copper

I replied about your interest in a CuMaratac here

true, the i3s CU is Brass with a Titanium Vapor Coating (PVD)

the i3e does come in real copper, single mode only

another CU light that may interest you is the Worm Lumintop Copper Worm with N219 Arrived!

Titanium Vapor Coating (PVD)is what I thought too. I’m pretty sure because I work everyday with PVD coating and the Olight looks like Tin coating. But it is a nice little light.
About the Worm, I think that is a light for my growing collection! Btw, I own 2 Lumintop Tool copper, 1 Lumintop Tool Ti and a Astrolux A01 copper……love these little AAA lights.

I have one for sale, modded with 12mm FET driver and nichia 219C 70CRI 5000k on 10mm sinkpad. It makes about 800lm and the heat is immediate, a true keychain rocket

However I’m afraid it would be too expensive sending it to your location…

Details here: What did you mod today? - #634 by will34

First I used the 219C on the stock mcpcb but it turned blue within seconds, then I reflowed it into the sinkpad and it works great now. I plan to upgrade the LED to a 219C 90CRI 4000K.

Here are my Coppers  1 ReyLight Tool w Nichia, 1 Lumintop Tool w Nichia, 1 Maratac modified to XPG 3000k, 1 Maratac modified to ReyLight driver and XPG 3000k, 1 Worm w Nichia. (plus a Maratac w XP-G2 and Reylight Tool w Nichia sealed in their boxes still)
7 total.

I like to carry a Maratac body with a Nichia head. I keep a Tool body with XPG head and ReyLight driver in the car…

The combinations mean I have a Tool or Maratac w LMH Nichia, and an LMH XPG,
also an MLH Nichia, and an MLH XPG,
plus the MLH Worm

(I swap the heads and bodies around… my favorite carry today is a Maratac Body with a Lumintop Tool w Nichia head (far right))

the differences in drivers and LEDs means I have a selection of different Low modes, as pictured above, left to right
.6 lumens ReyLight w XPG 3000k
1.2 lumens Maratac w XPG 3000k
2.5 lumens Worm w N219b 4500k
1.2 lumens ReyLight w N219b 4500k
2.5 lumens Tool w N219b 4000k

there are also differences among the tint of the two XPG, and
differences in Tint between the 3 N219b

fun times with Warm and Neutral High CRI Copper!
I do not use any Cool White LEDs any more… since I became a High CRI snob

All my lights use NoPWM drivers. (Older than Oct 2015 Tools and older than Oct 2015 Maratacs used PWM)
Present version of the Tool and Maratac are NoPWM (I do not know if Maratac AAA will change back to a PWM driver on the next copper run… the Maratac present version of the Copper AA has PWM). Fet drivers use PWM.
the Copper Worm is NoPWM

Very nice flashlights, love the patina on copper:THUMBS-UP:
My Lumintops have all Nichias….I really like the warm light especially with a copper flashlight.
Unfortunately I missed the Reylight Copper tool and the Maratacs :frowning: but the Worm looks great and still available here in Germany!

the Worm body is too heavy for me to carry it. I do like to put the head on a Maratac body though.

I like that the Maratac and Tool have reversible pocket clips that work on a hat… No pocket clip option for the worm

There is also the Copper Prometheus Beta, but it uses PWM, and a pocket clip costs extra (not reversible)

The Beta quick release works very well, but I find the light too heavy for my minimalist keychain

I dont keep a light on my keys, I prefer to use the light separately, but I have the option to put a light on my keys by having a clip on my keyring:

Is the Copper Prometheus Beta still a available? Really looks cool!
Is the Worm heavier than
the Lumintop Tool copper? I prefer to use my light separately and not on the Keys, so weight is no problem. And I prefer copper because the extra weight of copper feels more solid and worthy.
Btw, Merry Christmas!

Yes, betas are available Alpha Lights (18650) Collection – darksucks.com
The Worm head is 25% lighter (3gm) than the Tool head
The Maratac body is 27% lighter (6gm) than the Tool body

Lovely patina on the scales too.

The Copper Prometheus Beta is really expensive so now I decided to buy me the normal copper Worm with Nichia LED, its 39€ at Amazon right now and I have a 20% discount:THUMBS-UP:
The look and the weight of the copper Worm is perfect for me….thank you for your work with the scales and the pics! You helped me a lot.

ah, touché
yes, I weigh a lot of my knives also…
and the maid has not been here in a while… LOL

another of my projects

speaking of Patina
Copper Lights and Carbon Steel Knives react in opposite ways to acidic foods like vinegar, tomato sauce, lemon juice…

some people remove copper patina with ketchup for example
Copper Maratac Patina Removal Video

I agree the Worm is a very good price. Im also always happy to watch other people spend money. Please post a photo when your Worm arrives, so I can enjoy it too

I think you will be able to confirm that the Worm Head also lights up on the Tool body, but not vice versa. This also applies to Maratac/Worm swaps, the Worm head lights on Maratac body, but not vice versa.

Congratulations on your Worm order. Im sure you will like the feel in hand a lot.

Why? This is the reason why I love copper
The copper tools are really great AAA flashlights, the Worm and the Astrolux A01 too but is this all? There are no other manufacturers for AAA copper flashlights?
Titanium and brass is nice too, do you know any other flashlights that Lego with the Lumintop Worm/Tool lights? I only know the Thrunite Ti(03) and sure, the Maratac.

Oh I forgot……very nice knife collection :+1:

> very nice knife collection
thanks, Im in recovery from that addiction, “some” AAA flashlights are cheaper

list of copper lights

as to peoples feelings about copper, its controversial… some hate the smell, some think patina looks dirty

Ive decided I can live with the smell because I know copper kills germs, and I dont mind patina, though I occasionally re-polish my lights, or they polish themselves in my pocket. I like a “well used” look with shiny highlights and dark crevices

Sometimes I use plant food to add green

btw, here is one way to tell if a Used Maratac you might buy is a PWM model. It will have the knurling on the left

You can see in that progression, that Lumintop has been simplifying their knurling. It used to be much sharper and more aggressive on the models with PWM. The latest Tools have knurling that is much smoother to the touch.

Another way to recognize a NoPWM Maratac is there is a ring around the LED

this is what PWM looks like in a beamshot

Absolute consent!!
Thanks for the “copper” list and really nice pics. The pictures move me to buy more copper lights in the future:))
About the knurling, that is good to know if I ever get a Maratac  I like a knurling like that on flashlights.

Yes, looking at pictures leads me to make purchases too
Someone on a knife forum posted a photo of a Copper Maratac with a Knife… which turned me into a CopperMaratacAholic, followed by buying a Copper Beta, which made me a NichiaAholic… and a CRI, and PWM snob.

just to be clear, Maratacs and Tools follow the same knurling and PWM progression. imo they are both made by Lumintop at the moment. Just as Lumintop makes both the Prometheus Beta and the Lumintop Worm. Unfortunately, Maratac does not come with Nichia, I hope it does someday. I encourage you to contact them and request a Nichia version…

btw you’re very well informed about the Worm/Beta/Tool/Maratac/Thrunite AAA Lego options, I have not learned of additional options, though they may exist. I can say Olight i3s has totally different threads, not compatible.

Looks like we both have the same taste  Copper lights with patina, knurling, nichia, knifes…………
Btw, what brand are those knifes that you collect, maybe more pics?

Merry Christmas and excuse my bad english

Greetings from Germany

Gerd

Your English is excellent, my German non existent, despite my Father having been born in Hamburg.
The “accumulation” of knives in the earlier photo are TC Barlows by Great Eastern Cutlery, a USA niche market to the nostalgia of “traditional knives” (meaning sold in USA during the 1900’s).

This next photo has an Ebony TC, and some european knives you may recognize, Boker, AW Wadsworth (Kastor/Camillus), KeenKutter, and a Swedish Barrel knife Ive had for over 50 years, a gift to me when I was a young boy in Spain.

Some of us may also share an interest in copper from exposure to fishermen and boat cultures we’ve grown up with. And to stay on topic, I include my pocket carry today, a Maratac with a Tool head w Nichia

thank you for the conversation
wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!

I thank you for the conversation, I`ve learned a lot :+1:

Greetings and I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year too!

Happy New Year to you as well… and, if you have some knives to share a photo of, with a flashlight in the pic so we dont drift too far off, please share. Im guessing you may have a Mercator, or even a Puma… or one of the many other Solingen blades Germany excels at producing.

And I hope you do find a Maratac you enjoy
