Looking for a new 1xAA... again :)

Yeah, optimistic on the T10, hope it works out. :+1:

.

Not sure if I have the time/skill to get into that, but I did wonder if I could find someone to repair/mod my Xenos to eliminate the connection issue and have them start on low, (ideally on lower lower low). I really am fond of the E03’s otherwise. I could throw in my dead Balder SE-1 as a freebie to sweeten the deal!

Good choice. Its going to be hard to beat a T10 as a general purpose EDC, given your list of preferences. Unless you are specifically looking for something more… high CRI, tighter throw beam, maximum Lumens, different modes…etc.

That E03 looks really easy to get apart, no glue or thread locker at all. (thumbs up to manufacturers who do not glue things together).

Oops got the prices backwards. :person_facepalming: :person_facepalming: :person_facepalming:
Correct prices are:
Thrunite T10 $23.00
Thrunite Archer 1A V3 $30.00

Long holiday season it is.
Happy New Year to all.

Yeah, other than the WW and clip, I’d’ve recommended the WK50s. For 8bux, you can’t go wrong.

I love forward-clickies, but not for setting modes. Then it becomes something of a pain.

The Jet I is 3-modes (no moonlight) vs 4-modes of the ’50. Hmm, forgot which has memory and which doesn’t (Jet I vs II). Whichever doesn’t have memory always starts in low.

I couldn’t help but to recommend Jaxman E3 as it fits all your criterias you need

Makes me feel like a grumpy old man to say it lol, but I think memory and a bunch of extra modes are a pain in general. I really just want a simple moon-low-high with an on/off click and half-clicks to change. I guess a momentary on is nice to have too.

Yeah, the E3 was a close second. I went with the T10 mainy because I’ll have it tomorrow with Amazon and for the bonus diffuser. I’ll keep it in mind though. May actually have to get an E2

I love the Jetbeams for pocket-carry, etc., because a twisty is almost impossible to accidentally turn on.

I burned down a lot of alkie AAs and a few of those Energizer Li AAs by accidentally turning on a tail clicky and side-switch, but thankfully never had a Li-ion go supernova in my pocket or in my bag after being left on forever.

A reverse-clicky makes it easy to switch modes when the light’s on. A forward-clicky, you have to have it off, then select the mode you want with a momentary press on, then hold it when it’s what you want and/or full-press it to stay on. To switch modes once on, you gotta turn it off and go through all that again. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why I like forward-clickies only for 1-mode tac-lights, strictly flash’n’dash, no annoying modes to accidentally switch into.

Too many modes gets dizzying, and most of the time you have no idea which mode you’re in.

So my overall philosophy is to try to have only 1 mode (ie, wfo) for “special purpose” lights (throwers (C8), flooders (P60 Minimag), mules, P60s) and just use the right tool for the job at hand, and only really tolerate multiple modes for those lights where I’m willing to tolerate an asswise UI to select those different modes.

That’s why I particularly like those Jetbeams for multimodes, because they’re fine with the first twist, and it’s no surprise to just twist again to select the next mode. Even my S2+ with the default UI that comes with the 105D pisses me off with the blink-on-low, because that means that more than a 2-3sec burst of light on low, I gotta hold it well past the damned blink to make sure it doesn’t switch modegroups on me.

The WK50 doesn’t really bug me, because a) there’re no blinky modes, and b) I usually leave it on low anyway which is an almost-moonlight. Anything brighter, and I got my S2+ set on low… with the damned blink.

My 3buk bobofett light almost strangled the AA alkie it has in it, so a few more sessions of ceiling-bounce moonlight and it should be ready for another “dead” AA to burn through.

So yeah, I have near me about a half-dozen lights, including my XP-E2 C8 and my XP-L C8 for nighttime noises out back, and my normally holstered EDC ’502b (NW XP-L + SMO). The right tool for the job…

That’s also why I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all or jack-of-all-trades light. They’ll ALL be deficient in one way or another, depending on the situation.

Abso-frickin-lutely. When I'm out at night to work on something far from home, I carry a C8 for the throw, a TN12 for assisting in self-defense, a T10 for quick close-up tasks, an S2 in case its magnetic utility is necessary, and a Ti3 for very last-case backup. Each torch has its one role given the shortcomings of each, and without any of them the kit feels incomplete.

Nice post Lightbringer!, lot of food for thought there.

I got my T10, unfortunately it clearly has the greenish tint mentioned by a few folks. It’s not horrible, but a bit of a disappointment for sure. Not sure if I’m going to keep it or return it at this point.

I’d go for “keep it”. You’ll get over the tint in time. The torch’s worth it.

I mean, I did mine, and I’m the snobbiest tint snob there can be

With a $50 temp controlled iron in your kit you won’t have to suffer with a UI or tint you don’t like. Your favorite host can be all of them instead of just the one least annoying.

Sorry man, it was back in the post before I saw this. Back to the drawing board for me. Might look into modding one of my Xeno’s a little more seriously.

T10s are not hard to mod!

Well that’s too bad. Then I’m gonna suggest you the Jaxman E3 again, since you can get it with a Nichia.

You made a good decision. My T10t with diffuser has gone to camping with me three years in a roll. It is the perfect tent light hanging down from the top.

He sent it back because of tint issues.

I’d say the hardest part is finding a good driver for the AA like the xeno has .
the xtar has PWM and although it’s cheap and a fairly low low mode it ain’t all that .
I have a Xeno Es1 v1 that I bought from 264 here on BLF that kind of clicks all your buttons
except the two way clip …it’s tail down reflector up in your pocket or light forward on a ball cap
AA only light with a NW xpg2 with a nice NW tint(and i’m a huge tint snob) also a very usable one lumen low .

Med /low/high
it’s the exact same size as the eagletac d25A which i would suggest to you too if you could get one with a nichia in it …Same size means it can use the super cool eagletac diffuser

EDC + still has it with the WW maybe you can find a NW

nice red /rosey tint …but no clip
low med high and no moon
great lil light

Well, in update that was highly anticipated by no one, after over a year I finally bought a 1xAA that checks most of my boxes.

I just received the Maratac AA copper, Rev 5. It’s a twisty instead of a clicky, but it’s very smooth and easy to operate with one hand unlike my LD01, which was the primary concern pushing me away from a twist UI.

-Nice warmish-neutral Nichia.
-Very compact
-Really good deep carry clip, also reversible
-Good twisty action
-No moonlight, but starts on Low which I like for edc
-The copper and machining are really nice
-I think these have pwm(?,) but if so it’s not detectable/bothersome to me.
-Squeaked in under my initial $50 budget. Option Gray had the best price when I was looking and I got a 1st time purchase coupon which took it down to ~$47.5 out the door. (Still makes it my most expensive light, but it seems reasonable for the quality and for checking so many of my boxes.)
