4AA Minimag showed up at ebay - is it genuine?

Just found a maybe rare Maglite at ebay (I hope it is okay to post the link here): https://www.ebay.de/itm/252703189567

Never heard of a 4AA Minimag before.

PS: I am not the seller and not affiliated with him in any way.

In the early 90s TacSta sold a 1 cell extension tube they called the “Maximizer”, it was available through *Brigade Quartermaster.

(pic is from CPF)

*BM is/was a mail order store which focused on products for servicemen.

Here’s an ancient (2003!) thread about a 4x AA minimag on CPF, it really did exist.

From the thread in question…

So he was referring to the same kit I mentioned above.

I do have a vague recollection of an extremely long mini-mag showing up over on CPF, but it might have been a custom body or a knockoff. Brinkmann and other companies made 3 cell clones. Let me keep digging over there….

Success! Remembering that Brinkmann made clones was the missing piece in my head….

4AA mini mag ontario, ca. and copy of mini mag by brinkman

A few posts down the owner states:

They used a different zoom mechanism where the bulb tower moved up/down as the head was turned. I have one of their 2 X AA’s.

Are you referring to Brinkmann? Originally they made clones that were almost exact copies of the Mini Mag. That was until Maglite sued them in the late 80’s.

If there was any confusion the light I posted a pic of is labeled as being from Maglite, it isn’t a Brinkmann. I aplogize if that wasn’t clear.

The 2 AA I have is a Brinkman, the shape is similar but the knurling is different. I’ll post a pic in a day or two.

Nice! I’ve owned a couple mini-mags over the years, but I did not know this existed. A 4D’s little brother!

Ok, thanks guys!

I recently acquired a 3AA LED Minimag and I have to say that it is already huge. But 4AA…? I actually never got the point of those long Maglites.

With direct drive incan lights, more cells = higher voltage = more output.

True. I just wonder why Maglite never tried to put 4 AAs in a 1D size setup. Way more handy in my opinion.

Oops, it was a single AA.

Cool. I’ve never seen that one.

So the 4AA is gone, not even for much money. Roughly 20 USD with shipping, I thought it would be more of a collectors item.

It is only collectible if people interested in it are aware that it is available. If it had been in the US I would have put in a bid. If the Maglite collectors on CPF had known about it, I am sure one of them would have snapped it up.

Valid point, maybe I should have told them on CPF…
