Flashlight

Hello,
I am new here, and hope you can advise me.
I bought a LED Lenser P7.2, but am quite disappointed of the light output.
Now I have informed about mods and found out that this is not so easy with this model.
Are there ways to make the P7.2 brighter?
Or I just buy myself a lamp?
What is the strongest flashlight you buy for about 50 € –70 €, but it should not be too big …?

The best is the one that is brutally bright or is already mod, so I do not have to modify or solder.

Thank you

Here’s some mod threads to get you started. Doesn’t look too hard to me. Nothing is glued together, and everything seems to come apart nicely. Looks like resistor direct drive. Simply jumping one of the resistors more than doubles current draw to 2A with eneloops, according to one member. I’d start with that and ditching Alkaline AAA and upgrade to NiMH. Next mod up from there (and a significant one too imho) would be working in a 26650, 18650 or 25500 cell.

Hey, many thanks!

I will make this mod.

And now to the second question.
What is the strongest flashlight that you can buy for 50-70 euros?

Thanks!

Hard to beat a Convoy L6 for quantity and quality.

OK thank you.

Is almost a bit big.

Do you have a tip for a little bit smaller lamp?

Thanks !!!

Your second question can be answered if we know if you just want loads of light or if you want that light also bundled into a directional spot. Also, do you mind using li-ion batteries?

OK,
Which batteries or rechargeable batteries or li-ion batteries do not matter.
The light duration until the batteries are empty is also not important.
Headache much light.
It would not be bad if you could focus the flashlight.

Thanks!

I’d go with a Convoy C8, 3 mode, neutral tint, protected 18650 IMR cells and a single bay Xtar charger. Right off the bat thats a really GOOD setup, that will go toe to toe with lights costing much much more, and will completely obliterate your Lenser AAA light. Not too much $$ either. Use that to refine your preferences… and follow your path wherever it leads you into the hobby. I am not a fan of zoom-focus lights. I will defer to others for that recommendation.

Another good all around starting point is an 18650 P60 host, Solarfore L2 for one. Its easy to change modules and find out your preferences that way. Its easy to make your own modules and its a good / affordable entry into DIY building.

Hello,
I will take the Convoy L6, even if it is slightly larger.

I will use these batteries:

https://www.amazon.de/ThorFire-Lithium-Ionen-wiederaufladbare-LED-Taschenlampen-Fahrradfahren/dp/B01ASYZMB4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1483780168&sr=8-1&keywords=26650

Is it ok?

Does it make sense to order some mod parts like a driver or a high-gloss reflector?

Do you have a link for the mod parts?

Thank you very much!
Many greetings

I have found this page:
Here you can buy The Convoy L6 already with Boost-driver + De-dome for 139.25 $

Then I do not need to rebuild anything and have a brutal flashlight!

Thanks to all for your help and information!

Adventure Sports Flashlights is a small company with great up-to-date custom products, good choice. The owner is a longterm member of this forum by the name of vestureofblood.

Good choice… I like my bone stock Convoy L6. It gets hot though at its highest setting, IMHO its not something you can just leave turned on unattended. A resistor modded version will run even hotter, and will benefit more from better quality 26650 cells too. That light and a Littokala 4-pack is an outstanding setup. Lighting like this would have cost 2-3x as much just a few years ago. Stock L6 only draws ~5A so its a really easy load on the cells… one of the aspects I like about it in a “less is more” kind of way.

ASF owner is a very well respected member here as well as CPF.

Only downside I have with the L6 is its big, bulky and heavy for many of my intended uses as a backpacker and scout leader for the local troop. Its the age old compromise… mobility versus capability. The L6 definitely wins in the capability department.

Best way to buy great lights is to simply do a search for group buy BLF lights and buy anything that the forum members have collectively created .they will be as cheap as you could ever buy and generally awesome / buying almost any old blf custom made light is a good idea …
Search box is in the upper left on every page

Dittos. It took me awhile to realize this.

The L6 is a bit large but with an inexpensive chinese sling and a bit of ingenuity it hangs at the waist and feels as though it weighs nothing. I wouldn’t pay to modify it; just use it as is. It’s currently my “go to” light when I have chores or serious stuff going on and I need long runtime or bright light and size is unimportant.

You might also get involved in the Q8 build project as a consumer. $40 will get you a lot of flashlight in a few months.

One of the useful and impressive bright for its size is a Convoy S3 with 7135*8 driver
Runs on a single 18650

For outdoor throw the C8 with XPL HI is great

Easy to modify with DTP stars and fet drivers
