PRESENTATION:

We are going with a new proposal in the EDC segment, this new model of Lumintop offers us some very interesting features, a good user interface, great power, restrained size and a very attractive aesthetic.

A box of hard cardboard of great quality houses our new Lumintop, to take out this box of the plastic of bubbles already it gave a very good impression, because it is a presentation quite superior to what I am accustomed in a flashlight, it is more like the boxes of some electronic gadgets of known brands that I have.

In the back we can read the characteristics of the model.

When opened, my impressions remain intact, I withdraw the instructions and warranty and I find the flashlight and its case perfectly protected. Inside the case comes the USB cable and the strap.

We will find a 18650 battery inside the flashlight, with a plastic to prevent it from being discharged, it is a Panasonic 3400mah with protection circuit but decorated with the design of Lumintop, comes with 3.8V according to the Opus C3100.

In addition to the case, the battery, the strap and the usb cable, we also have 2 O-rings and a spare back button, it is difficult to hope more, it comes very complete.

Instructions, as always, in English, quite complete.

EXTERIOR FINISH:

In my opinion we have a design quite attractive, due to its size and weight, it is very comfortable to wear in everyday.

The design of the tip of the head is completely smooth, the edges make a very subtle undulating shape that is barely noticeable, but it looks good, in the next section we find a rubber button, small fins to dissipate heat and 4 flat recesses In triangular form, which will prevent the flashlight from sliding when placed on a smooth surface, besides being an aesthetic element that is really good. The serigraphs are of quality, we can see the mark and model in addition to the symbol of prevention against possible burns.

In the central area we find a fine knurling accompanied by 4 rather deep longitudinal grooves that get a firm grip, the steel clip is of quality and has a good firmness, just to be comfortable and useful at the same time, in addition, is Removable.

In the area of the tail we have the same type of knurl that we saw earlier, and 2 hooks for the belt, would have preferred that these hooks were divided into 2, as in some models, to make it even more practical. The stability in sail mode is compromised by the large holes of access to the button that have left, with a slight inclination that we make to the lantern, this will fall.

The quality of the anodizing and machining is excellent, I do not appreciate imperfections of any kind, the feeling is to stand before a top flashlight in this regard.

The threads are square, wide and perfectly finished, are anodized and come well oiled, its operation is exquisite. In the thread of the head we find a micro-usb input, which will serve to charge it. In addition the flashlight has the specification IPX-8, so we can submerge it up to 2 meters without problems.

The aluminum walls are not very thick.

Here you see the contacts of the body and head, surrounded by plastic, good terminations.

In both the positive and negative poles we have two springs, we can use flat top or button top batteries without problems.

The reflector is smooth and of course, we have a glass with anti-reflection treatment.

The XP-L V5 led is perfectly centered and free of imperfections.

USER INTERFACE:

Normal Mode:

On / Off: Full press on the back button.

Changing modes: with the flashlight on, successive clicks on the side button will interchange the different modes in this sequence: Moonlight-> Low-> Medium-> High-> Turbo.

Strobe mode: with the flashlight on, hold the side button for 1 second to access the strobe mode, we will have to calculate well, since the strobe mode will not activate until we release the button, and nothing will warn us that we have already pressed Long enough for activate it.

Changing modes of use: With the flashlight on, we will make a sustained push for about 3 seconds on the side button, the light will flash 2 times, that means that we have changed between normal and tactical mode.

Memory mode: The flashlight will remember the last mode used.

Momentary on: With the flashlight off, we will make a partial sustained press on the back button to effect a momentary on.

Tactical Mode:

On / Off: Full press on the back button.

Changing modes: with the flashlight turned off, we will make successive partial pulsations, or with the flashlight on, we will make 2 pulses (turn off, on) followed in the back button to switch between these 3 modes: Turbo-> Strobo-> Low.

Mode memory: we have no memory of modes in the tactical mode, will always turn on high mode after about 5 seconds since we turned it off, otherwise it will turn on in the following mode to the used when turning it off.

Momentary on: With the flashlight off, make a partial sustained press on the back button to effect a momentary on.

Lock: Due to the anodized threads, it is enough to unscrew 1/8 of the tail plug or the head to prevent accidental on.

DISTRIBUTION OF MODES:

We have 5 modes perfectly spaced, the percentages you see, correspond to my measurements, this is what the brand announces:

Moonlight: 1 Lumens (340 Hours)
Low: 40 Lumens (37Hours)
Mid: 188 Lumens (10 Hours)
High: 488 Lumens (3 Hours)
Turbo: 1000~488 Lumens (5 minutes+2.5 Hours)
Strobe: 1000 Lumens

PERFORMANCE AND AUTONOMY:

Let's see how the flashlight in Turbo mode gives the first 5 minutes, this flashlight has an automatic stepdown, which in 5 minutes will go to the High mode:

During the first 4 minutes, we will maintain practically the 1000 theoretical lumens, in the 5th minute we have a steep descent to about 700, and in 6 has entered the Stepdown and we go to about 500 lumens.

With the battery included we will get a duration of about 3 hours, starting the test in Turbo mode, at 5 the automatic stepdown to High mode, from there, we will maintain the same light intensity (about 500 lumens) for more than 2 Hours, the last 40 minutes will be a steady drop in performance as the battery voltage drops.

At 3 hours the side button starts to flash with red light, indicating that we are running out of battery, at that time I finish the test and check that the battery voltage is 3.06v. Then I checked that if you continue for a while longer, the flicker, which is slow at first, is getting faster.

Integrated USB Charger:

As we saw before, we have a integrated charger in the body of the flashlight, hidden in the thread of the head.

When we connect the flashlight to a charger, powerbank or the usb of a computer for example, we will see how a light is turned on, it will be green if the battery is charged, and red if it is charging.

There is one thing that has surprised me, and is that at some point in the charge I have found the light flashing intermittently and very fast between red and green, I do not know what it is supposed to indicate at that time.

In my tests, with the flashlight connected to a Powerbank Xiaomi 10.000mah Pro (with fast charge, although obviously in this case it is not used), the included battery needed about 5 hours and a quarter to complete a full charge with an initial voltage of 2.8 V.

PROJECTION:

We have a narrow reflector, but quite deep and smooth, which together with the XP-L V5 make the flashlight have a rather curious projection, I especially liked it, the central hotspot is quite bigger than I am accustomed, and is very defined, the rest of the projection is very homogeneous and clean, without hoops that waste lumens.

Let's see all the light intensities projected to 1 meter away:

Here we compare with other models, all in the highest mode:

In this case, I compare the moonlight mode of several flashlights about 20 cms away from the wall:

Measurements of luxes in turbo mode of several models to 1 meter of distance:

Sunwayman T20CC: 11101
Manker U11: 12016
Lumintop EDC25: 12016
Jetbeam Jet IM: 23470
Nitecore EC4: 30513

We can see that both the Manker U11 and the Lumintop EDC25 have the same range, but the hotspot of the Lumintop is larger, so the area illuminated with that intensity is greater, in fact, the light sensation is somewhat higher in general in the projection of the Lumintop.

CONCLUSION:

We are facing a magnificent EDC with 18650 battery, good pack of accessories included, first class finishes, great distribution of intensities, tactical mode, good autonomy and I really liked the low battery warning, integrated charger, which is also not very slow , Its projection has enchanted me, one of the most remarkable aspects of this model, undoubtedly it is a totally recommendable piece.

The bad:

We have to wait 5 seconds to restart in turbo mode, when we use the tactical mode.
Access to strobe mode while in "normal mode" may be better executed.

The good:

Projection.
Top finisheds.
Distribution of intensities and tactical mode.
Built-in charger.
Accessories included.
Aesthetics, anti-slip design and removable clip quality.
Size and weight.

Buena review Miguel!!

Great review. Looks like a nice light

Thanks for reading and comment.

Thanks for this great review! :+1:

I wish we’ll see a very good offer for this LUMINTOP in the future.

Well done!

Great review! Looks a great light!

about the strobe mode with an observation from a tactical standpoint, its technically a double tap to get it into strobe mode in the tactical setting so i dont really see a bad thing there, because turning the flashlight on and then press hold the sideswitch to get to strobe isnt a very good idea when you need that, while it can be annoying to have the flashlight memorize on the strobe mode as the first thing you turn it on.

Thank for the review by the way, just my thoughts.

very complete review!

thanks for sharing

Thanks for the review.

I ordered one and the light won’t turn off with protected 18650s. With unprotected cells it works fine. Any ideas? I guess the button must be shorted out somehow, maybe by the longer cell pushing the spring sideways against the copper plate?

Figured it out - the battery was too long, so it fully compressed the spring, also contacting the copper plate around the spring. I cut out a small circle of paper with a hole in the middle for the spring, and that fixed the problem.
