Night Light that activates when current goes off.

Or you can get a really nice light and simply keep it with you.

Maybe not so useful for the original use case though, unless they want to wear a small EDC as a necklace or something.

Thanks, All for the good information. I found an Ever ready at Lowes for $8.89 I think. My friend gave it to her at bridge last night. Thanks again.

For anyone else looking for a similar light I can reccomend these lights I picked up in a 3 pack at costco.

The power went out here two nights ago and they lit up my rooms well. My neighbor even commented on seeing the light through my windows the next morning.

They might also be interested in something like this:

Somebody here (or on CPF) mentioned these Dorcy motion sensitive lights awhile ago.
Next to the house is a detached, partially enclosed porch/deck; I have one of these mounted right next to the steps by the porch door.
When the girl delivers the newspaper at 4:00-5:00 in the morning, she has to walk about 20-feet down a sidewalk to the door; being in the suburbs it is pitch-black!

It’s pointing down the length of the walkway (towards the street), and actually triggers when anyone walks down the street (right in front of the house), or when a car drives by.
It can be set to stay on for 30 or 60 seconds, and stays off during the day (only works when it’s dark).

It does a good job lighting up the steps (and part of the sidewalk), and just feels a lot safer. I was out mowing the lawn, and when she happened to be walking by, and thanked me for the light. I told her I put it there so she doesn’t have to trip on the steps, and can see the icy-patches in the winter time.

Anyway, I put Energizer Lithium batteries in it (3xAA), and it lasts about 7-8 months; which is pretty good considering it’s mounted outside.
The LEDs will get dimmer when the batteries are getting a bit tired, so it’s easy to tell when it’s time for a fresh set.

Sometimes pantless is the best way to use a flashlight!

Fixed that for ya!

The husband was in bed without a light close by, except for the coin cell light I had given them earlier in his pants pocket. I guess his pants were close to the bed so that is what he used. I doubt he put the pants on.

The wife has had MS for may years and can hardly get around I don’t know how she got to the bathroom as she has to be lifted into her wheel chair. I guess she had a walker. So the only thing that would work in this type situation is the power failure light.
My friends sometime make fun of me about flashlights. I bet none of you have experienced that. At least these folks know that when you need a light in the night it does not take much light to be enough, and being REAL HANDY and close count a lot.

Jerry

I’ve recommended these elsewhere — also relevant to this thread so I’ll add the link

According to his probation officer, the strange guy who lives two blocks from me IS required to wear pants when operating a flashlight …

The older Eveready emergency lights don’t hold up well whether used or unused. I gifted several of them and within 2 years all were dead. Within one year none ran for more than a couple minutes dimly. My guess is the cells were crap but it could have been charging-related. It’s a great concept though, and I’m sure there’s somebody who makes decent ones.

Have not been to a hospital for some years but they used to have something like this;
The loop makes it easy to understand and the rechargeable aaa batteries get changed anually?

Let us know what you decide is good enough to get and how it works.

Hi Jerry,

I like these a lot Sunbeam LED Power Failure Night Light

Blue night light is motion activated while plugged in
and when the power goes off white light comes on automatically,

Depending on the season, price is not bad 18-22 with tax for a pack of 3, .

Hi Hank,
Sorry I blew this one as for letting you know. As it turns out another mutual friend wanted to buy her a couple and bought the ones I found at Lowes. It just plugs into a socket and comes on if the current goes out. As far as I know it works fine for them and we get few current outages here in southern NM.

I know I’m late to the party, but……
I have multiple options that I’ve bought at various times over the years. All turn on automatically when the power cuts off. I think I got all from CostCo, but I’m providing links to Amazon.

This one has a detachable flashlight that turns on when the power goes out. Also has a nightlight built onto the base. The flashlight isn’t all that bright but lasts long enough to get the job done. I like that I can easily remove the light and take it with me, but then again, I’m never without a flashlight, even in the shower.

This one is low profile, functions as an optional night light. Can set 2 brightness levels for emergency lighting. I like it because it’s low profile, provides pass through to the outlet and the optional night light function. Easy to install. Can either plug in or use faceplate mounting screws for more “permanent” attachment. I use them in the hallways.

This one is the brightest/longest lasting of the bunch and the one I’ve owned the longest. Can be removed and used as a flashlight. 2 brightness levels. I don’t think there is a provision for nightlight. I have a few of these in the living room, one near the backdoor to be easily in reach if I have to run out there and investigate the axe murderer making all that ruckus out there.

Instead of the usual thing people do with memes where they start with an image and think up funny captions, I think this caption needs an image to go along with it.

For my own sanity, I’m choosing not to go to /r/buttlight to find a suitable image.

Well, maybe just one. Not everything there is NSFW.

I’m never without a flashlight, even in the shower.

LOL Showering will never be the same! That one must have a goofy TIR or someone’s got more than one up there… Just sayin’

A note to readers who may have missed the pun: TIR is a type of optic and stands for “Total Internal Reflection”.

*groan*

Much as I despise AAAs (well, most things that use AAAs), I just got my first Astrolux A01, and it’s quite nice for a keychain light… or even a necklace light.

Given the 6lbs of keys I typically carry, it’d get beat to Hell in my pocket, so I’m not going to carry it that way. Still, one would make a pretty decent necklace pendant.
