Just discovered I'm losing my job...

It happened to me now:
At work this evening, my boss was on-site from Dallas and called me aside for a private meeting. He told me that my role is being reduced, or some similar HRese and that I have about two weeks left, after which I’ll be unemployed. I’ve had this same job at this location for the past ten years, providing IT support for a major utility in my area. Now, because of some short-sighted cutbacks, several others in my organization, as well as myself, will be losing our jobs in the next couple of weeks.

So sorry to hear that.

Man, I’m terribly sorry to hear… Short-sighted cutbacks mean that it’s not your fault. Hope you can find a new challenge in your life. Good luck!

Bummer man…. and that suxxx….hope you can get up and runnin’ sooner than you expect.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you find another job soon. At least it’s easier now than it was 8 years ago. Unfortunately pay has stagnated for a lot of positions.

They call it ” optimisation of personnel” you know…
Well, dont let your spirit go away, it could be for good! The wifey got fired several years ago, and the first month it was I and the kits that took all her rage , yet we had a long talk, and now she runs her own small accountant compmany.

I feel your pain. I was let go after 30 years with the same job. Thankfully I was close to be old enough to start collecting social security. That was almost 3 years ago. I’m still not emotionally over it because of the way they did it. They gave me no warning, and didn’t give me severance pay. Luckily my house was paid off and I was able to collect unemployment until I turned 62. When I think about it, my blood boils.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’re getting a decent severance package and can file for unemployment.

It may not seem like it now, but this may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Stay bright! :o)

Sorry Man! At least you are IT and can work for many different organizations!

Good Luck

Been there too atbglenn. Worst part is indeed not losing my job, but supervisors I’ve known for years pretending nothing’s going on. It’s very surreal, but at the same time this seems to happen regularly to be universal as well. We fall. And there’s only one thing we can do. Get up.

Stay strong and who knows, time will come and you’ll look back and think, that job made you more qualified for the next.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will find a new job real soon.
I have been in the utility-business for more than three decades and I have seen it happen more than once.
The reason for it being: “it’s not our core-business to ……….”.
So they start leasing buildings, cars and computers. And contract third parties for security, maintenance, catering and IT.
Often the same guys showed up again a few weeks later, …… with different badges on their shirts.

My thought and wishes go to you, keltex78!

Happened to me more than once, and the pain it causes is genuine.

As you start your search, continuously remember to cast all self-doubt aside. It had nothing at all to do with you. You are even more valuable to your next employer!

Nowadays, we workers are viewed as drags on the bottom lines.

After 30 years of being a dedicated employee, I felt worthless and even thought about ending it all. Thankfully I had my family who got me through it all. Right now I’m retired living halfway decent. I might sell my house in the next couple of years and move somewhere more affordable. Long Island is too damn expensive.

:frowning:

Thank you so much for sharing this. Yes, we are humans, so obviously we feel worthless when this happens. But it is so important to realise that we should not feel worthless. It’s NOT our fault; this stuff happens all the time as mentioned by others here too. I hope you (keltex78) will absorb this information…

Sorry to hear that its happened to me before. Up to w certain dollar amount unemployment will pay its varies state to state. Usually half of what your check is. And since they are saying they don’t have a job for no fault of your own you’ll automatically get it. And to get help with food. You’ll qualify for food stamp ebt card as well. Nothing wrong with accepting help for until back on your feet.

I’ve found a few jobs through temp agencies they can get you to work quickly even if it’s something you don’t normally do its a paycheck until you do find something

So sorry to hear.

Please keep your spirits up whatever you’re confronted with from here on.
