Just discovered I'm losing my job...

But revenge is a close second.

Carp! As a self employed carpenter I have to look for work a few dozen times a year but have come to realize that if you’re good at what you do you shouldn’t have to stress over it so I don’t anymore. Employers will recognize your talent but the first criteria is pass the drug test. Be relaxed, it shows as confidence in yourself. Do a few mods while you have the time and the weather keeps you inside. Good luck.

Lucifer, is that you?

(“Lucifer” being the Greek translation of “light bringer” or “light bearer”)

The name’s not important, but you can call me Lu.

Ouch - sorry to hear that!
Best wishes, and here’s hoping that whatever you find next will be somehow better than what you have now.

Wish you the best, hope this will bring you a better job.

So sorry to hear that.
But from your story, as a IT support, I believe you’ll get decent job in anytime soon.

Sorry to hear that, hope you find a job soon.

Sorry to hear that… hope you get everything sorted out.

Sorry to hear that. Thankfully you are in a pretty employable field (as others have said).

Sorry to read these sad tidings
Keep strong!

Jobs come and go, my friend. What stays is friendship and experience… and flashlights

Good luck finding a place where people actually appreciate you instead of treating you like chopped liver.

Sorry to hear. Hopefully things will work out for the best.

I am in the same boat, I have three weeks left. The site I work at is up for sale but since there are no buyers it is being shut down. They keep cutting down the number of people who work here. I am out with the next round of cuts on Feb 2.

Nice to see some others on here are trying to brighten your spirit

keltex88 and Dave G - sorry to hear you guys’ bad news - best of luck to both of you finding a great job moving forward! You never know, what today appears to be a setback could turn into a positive change in your life when you see it in hindsight from some point in the future.

When my father (passed away 6 years ago) was working, it was not uncommon at all for an employee to be with the same company from first day hired to the day of their retirement (and the proverbial gold watch) and to have had the opportunity to work one’s way “up the ladder” within that company.

Not so much anymore - - -

- - - and that’s a bad thing in my opinion.

good luck to you.

Sorry to hear this.

But with your qualifications, you’re bound to find a new or even better one.

But sad it is.

Really appreciating the prayers and kind wishes everyone…

The company and facilities I support have been going through severe cutbacks as well due to a recent corporate bankruptcy, so I’m just the latest one on the chopping block. I’ve been watching good friends here get laid off since late summer.

So my qualifications probably aren’t quite as good as some of you are assuming but I do have 12 years experience in the field. Actually, within about two hours of finding out yesterday, I had a promising lead for a job with a banking institution here locally. I’ve been talking to their HR rep and am hoping something will pan out. I don’t expect the pay to be quite as much as the job I’m losing, but I don’t have much room to be picky at the moment.

I’m not counting on any severance pay either. My employer (soon-to-be-ex) is an overseas based IT Service contractor whose business ethics and practices are not the best. They are good about manipulating the system to ensure that you don’t actually get terminated “involuntarily”. Instead, they will “re-locate” you to a different contract, possibly in a remote/undesirable/out-of-state location. You are then faced with three choices:

1. Move somewhere you don’t want to take a job you don’t want
2. Voluntarily terminate your own employment
3. Get fired for not showing up to your new location as expected

I’m hoping that I can have another job lined up before my final work date so I can give them a scathing exit interview they will never forget… :smiling_imp:
Under normal circumstances, I am a proponent of NOT burning bridges but I will be happy to put this company behind me forever.

Has totally happened to me. You get up and move on! I know the emotional devastation, the degradation of self-worth…it is tough. Bigger and better things await!

Sorry to hear that mate. My wife lost her job not long ago, she found a new one reasonably quick but it meant taking a pay cut. However, it is closer to home and she is much happier at the new place. It was a blessing in disguise, and I hope yours will be too.

I’m sorry. Let’s hope it manages to turn out to be one of those “it turned out to be a good thing” stories. The economy is doing OK, I think you’ll land on your feet. I think you could use a little more self-confidence. It’s not only what you already know, but also how quickly you can pick up what you need to know at a new job, and how good you are with people. Like us, here. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that. But it maybe a bit hard, but moving forward and making yourself productive again is the only way to be better. You still have you, your family and friends. There is a better opportunity waiting for you, so keep the faith and find solutions to start a new career. Your future self will thank you later.
