Review: Sky Ray 818

Nice review Bad Light.

Some of these $40+ budget lights are not worth the money.

That's a shame, Foy. Honestly though, I was surprised you went with the Skyray after all the posts regarding the numerous issues folks had with most every Skyray model. For your $60 I'd have gone the extra $10 or so and gotten the DRY. I hope the driver doesn't die on you next. :(

good review Foy..seems skyray should stick to small SS lights and may be overreaching with this triple xml lights..

+1, Foy needs a DRY.

Do they have a version with a SS Bezel?

No, but that would rob Foy of the joy of Foy-zing the bezel himself....

I do own the Masterpiece Pro 1 and in terms of throw specifically, the MPP 1 throws farther than the M8. I know there are better throwers out there but the MPP 1 will give you new respect for the ubiquitous XR-E.

Thanks for the kind words. All I have left to do now is the Wk 26. That one will be much more fun . . .

...a pile of camel dung, as well. Bluish tint, DOA (I fixed a bad connection in head), underdriven, and I gave it to my dad as a gift. Purchased from Manafont.

My 3800 was also a pile of camel dung. Fried quickly. Manafont said it was a 3-day warranty on that light.

I'll never buy another product from Manafont because of their shoddy customer service, and not standing behind their products.

Two thumbs down for FryRay lights, and Manafont.

Ending on a positive note, the 3800 host makes a great hammer, if you don't hit the nail too hard.

Kind of surprised you whent with the fry ray Foy, I think there is better tripples out there and the new 5 x T6 from trustfire might be worth a look once they start rolling in.

Thanks for an honest review with great pic,s

Good Honest Review Foy. I was thinking, why would you buy a Crappy looking Light? I looked at the Sales Link. It is not the same Light you RX or the Photos are Modded. It looks like Misrepresentation to me.

Great review. I am shocked at the poor finish. My skyray 3xml also had a large nick in it but the finish was much better.

I got my Skyray 850 today. Veery similiar to this, only 1.6A on tailcap, not very bright, I wait for new driver from KAI, hope it will move it a little bit forward, as now it doesn't surprise with light amount...

Just like mine. An underachiever. Made a nice gift.

Maybe the TR-3T6 or the TR-J12 would of been a better choice ?

TR-J12 already ordered :) But anyway I will change driver in 850.

I have just made my skyray 850 naughty. KAI driver is heeelll of the driver, mounted it, changed wires, some contact preparationa and... 3.9A at tailcap! It means 31W on the driver, this flashlight started to make sens, it makes some real illumination now :)

Thanks. I down on the MPP-1 and love it, was considering buying the M8 but only if it out-threw the MPP-1. You answered that for me. Thanks.

I just received my "Skyray 818" last week, and was googling for whether it can take 5000mah batteries, and found this review.

At first I thought I bought a lemon. Imagine my disappointment. But after comparing every photo with my torch, I realised the reviewer must have received a factory reject. Either that or the store sent him a return from someone else - and that person really banged up the torch good.

I bought mine from "redlog" on ebay. And there were no nicks, the finish was good, the lens was not loose, and it feels good in my hand. Granted, if I look hard enough with a magnifying glass for long enough, I could find a few blemishes, but I can hardly agree with the rating of "lousy" or "sucks"

If I have any complaint against this torch, it's that the seller sent it in nothing more than a cardboard box and bubblewrap - no user guide or nice retail box.

If it's me who received something like the reviewer photoed, I wouldn't even bother taking photos of it and then waste more time writing a review - I'd send it straight back for a refund and then shop elsewhere.

Glad you got a good one.

Don't do a review if dissatisfied . . . appreciate the advice.

I think its needs some time in the Oven on broil!
