[Ended]Groupbuy : Utorch UT02 (single cell XHP-35 HI / 26650 thrower)

Soooooooo……how much might a fella like you charge for a mod like this? Parts and all. (shipping would be figured out obviously) Hmmmmmmm??? :sunglasses:

EDIT:

Full runtime chart, in hidden turbo it doesn’t ever step down, in fact the output raises over time. Total runtime was 1hr 47min at which point it just shut down and the battery measured 3.13V. So the realistic runtime for the UT02 is ~1,000lm for 1.8hr!! pretty amazing isn’t it? I only wish we could just set the normal turbo like this.

I made a 10 min runtime test using a partially discharged Liitokala 26650, and am happy to report there is no stepdown in the turbo mode from the aux group. The normal turbo drops to 70% after 2 min and stays there so the data is extrapolated after the 5 first minutes.

You must first enable it by pressing the button for a few secs in off, the aux group then goes strobe - breath - SOS - beacon - battery indicator? - turbo

Interesting Will , thanks !

Today i modded my UT02 with xp-l hi v3 (not sure if i keep it) and fet driver with LDO , and Narsil firmware .

First of all it draws 6.7 amps with Liitokala 26650 on higher “mode” . Standby current is really low , 0.05mA .

I use the ramping mode in Narsil , and the moonlight mode is set on 2/255 .

Later i will post more info , and i’ll take some measurements . It is brighter than U21 , and it the hotspot has the same size as the U21 .

Another chart… (because I love making charts  )

USB charging test with the same Liitokala 26650:

–3hr 23min to full
–24.93Wh required
-Max current draw 1.93A
-End voltage 4.21V

To give you an idea, a 3,400mAh 18650 takes nearly 5 hours to fully charge at 1A in another USB charging light.

I actually completely disassembled my UT02 yesterday with thoughts of de-doming an XP-L W2 1D, then decided to re-assemble it in stock form favoring the UI and charging characteristics. I have throwers and maxed out lights galore, I don’t have breathe mode on any other light (save for the Manker U21 which is soon be heading to Malaysia)

Love the charts, excellent run time on that full out chart, gotta love it!

Just measured the intensity , 182,7kcd . It really needs a dedomed xpl V6 in there  (That means i will destroy more xp-ls for nothing…)

Can hardly wait to hear of your results, I did a V6 0D last night, yep it bumped up the throw, but……….I removed it this morning!

Why you removed it ?

You will have to wait some time , until i achieve a clean dedome actually :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll wait! You’ll see! I hope you get better…. results!

Look really close at your reflector too, I never noticed this and I have 4 of these, well 3 now, of these torches, and this one has some serious machine grooves in it, more so than my P30?

I found a V3 HI 5700k, well I took it out of an old light and put it in the UT02 now going to check it out tonight, liking the tint much better then the 1A.

There is a trick to de-doming the XP-L that seems to have a higher success rate. I normally de-dome under full power, after slicing around the base of the dome. The XP-L doesn’t like full power de-domes but instead a lower level of heat is more successful. So say, with an FET driver, a level of 3 or 4 instead of 7 will have better results. This comes to me from Richard, who probably does more with lights than any 5 of us combined.

I don’t de-dome much anymore, having contributed my fair share of $5-6 emitters to the bin. I’ve never been very pleased with the tint from any of em, so it’s just not usually worth it to me.

I had success with 2 leds in perfect tint . xm-l2 U4 0D and old xp-g2 S4 2B . Tint around 5200K , just perfect .

I think i found some medical benzin that mitko and sirius suggested , i will give it a try tomorrow .

It seems that you dedome electricaly, if so yes, when elecrtically i do dedome at 2.5 amps( a 105c with 1 chip removed)…yet i dont dedome electricaly much lately, mainly chemically- ways faster and as you can see ways better when you do a mass dedome: ways safer too, and after dicovering the medical benzine it even better, no smell, no stains , no tint shift caused my the chemical… coresiline works the same way yet it stinks like hell, realy nasty one

Indeed, V6 0D has a greenish tint, yet V6 1A for isntance is great even for the mass BLF taste, U3/4 0D is great too- when dedomed U3 2A has a great tint too

About XPL HI emitters : they aint that productive, i hardly use them caus emainly i make hunting lights, and they cant be white/cool white ones, they can ofc but its not recommended
And those neutral/warm white HI emitters have serious issues when pushed hard, many of them die in a sudden(i killed a good ammount 3A this way), most of them die after some time due to burnings arround the bond wires cause by the higher current

BE careful with that stuff, it’s cancer causing and potentially very hazardous not to mention highly flammable. Use outside in open air if at all possible.

Your medical benzine or petroleum ether is better known here as Naptha. Dangerous stuff, precautions MUST be observed with this type of volatile solvent. When in doubt, DON’T!

Like every chemical Dale, the ordinary soap is dangerous alot when swallowed too

As long as its made for treating wounds and in surgery its quite safe for an ordinary BLF use - ways ways safer that those 1.2 million cars in my city, they are a real cancer bringer indeed …the wifey`s temper too but thats another story

Yet it vaporites quite fast in the open, if the dedoming “jar” isnt sealed and there is a spark or a static electricity one could easy blow himself

Well isn’t that curious, because all my search results for medical grade benzine show it to be a solvent used to clean surgical instruments and remove adhesive’s, not clean wounds. And there are a LOT of warnings about how dangerous it is, certainly not on the level of a household soap our mom might use to wash our mouth out for using profanities. Ordinary soap here in the US is not dangerous, if it were, my cousin would have died many years ago for his colorful language and the ensuing introduction to soap by his mother. He was and still is a very ornery person, he ate the soap to aggravate his mother.

A direct quote from a maker of medical supplies… ““Products based on natural oils can also be
used to remove sticking plasters. This can
replace medical grade benzine, which should not
be released to the air, and is also classed as
carcinogenic.”

We have to be cognizant of the fact that a lot of our family here on BLF are not engineers or well versed in the use of chemicals. What might appear to be simple to some could well be life-threatening to others. I know how these things are because I have blonde children…

Edit:

Toxic, volatile, flammable liquid hydrocarbon byproduct of coal distillation. Benzene is used as an industrial solvent in paints, varnishes, lacquer thinners, gasoline, etc. Benzene causes central nervous system damage acutely and bone marrow damage chronically and is carcinogenic. It was formerly used as parasiticide.
from MeSH

Benzene is a clear, colorless, highly flammable and volatile, liquid aromatic hydrocarbon with a gasoline-like odor. Benzene is found in crude oils and as a by-product of oil-refining processes. In industry benzene is used as a solvent, as a chemical intermediate, and is used in the synthesis of numerous chemicals. Exposure to this substance causes neurological symptoms and affects the bone marrow causing aplastic anemia, excessive bleeding and damage to the immune system. Benzene is a known human carcinogen and is linked to an increased risk of developing lymphatic and hematopoietic cancers, acute myelogenous leukemia, as well as chronic lymphocytic leukemia. (NCI05)
Pharmacology from NCIt

Benzene is found in the air from emissions from burning coal and oil, gasoline service stations, and motor vehicle exhaust. Acute (short-term) inhalation exposure of humans to benzene may cause drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, as well as eye, skin, and respiratory tract irritation, and, at high levels, unconsciousness. Chronic (long-term) inhalation exposure has caused various disorders in the blood, including reduced numbers of red blood cells and aplastic anemia, in occupational settings. Reproductive effects have been reported for women exposed by inhalation to high levels, and adverse effects on the developing fetus have been observed in animal tests. Increased incidence of leukemia (cancer of the tissues that form white blood cells) have been observed in humans occupationally exposed to benzene. EPA has classified benzene as known human carcinogen for all routes of exposure.

It seems naphtha is a much more general term while benzine is a specific for of light petroleum naphtha with 6 carbon atoms per molecule. I am curious if general naphtha would work as well as benzine. Benzine is RIDICULOUSLY expensive here in the states.

Hello, Then half an hour in gasoline 92 octane, a genuine lattice brigth, regards!

Here its like 4-5 euros per liter, local refined brand medical grade
There is also Johnson@ Johnson too yet its like 34 euros whitch is insane realy, the same formula

Dale , LightRider is quite right btw, the substance that i use is used also for grapes oil extraction and its ways way sless toxic that bensol or the casual gas, toulol or cholroform

Can’t we just use some Everclear and make Jello shots with it when we’re done? (said in jest, come on now!)
