Weird thing is that new S2+ is little different color and more glossy than one I have from before. Also driver is little changed. Old one was FX-12 marking, new is Convoy marking.
Has GB sorted the Tool TI mislabeling yet? Many here received the Cree version that had a GB printed SKU for Nichia. If yours is too white looking it may be a mix-up and is a Cree.
I wish I had bought the Tool Ti
Anyway, here’s my new light of the day :
I have the 18650 version for about 3 years and was eyeballing this one since then.
I really like it, 3 modes (I was hoping for a lower low) and a 3000K XP-G2.
I’m not even sure if I want to swap it, but the 219C sm305 is so gorgeous that it will be hard to resist
I may give it a vinegar vapor bath to speed up the patina process
LOL, my “Noname” MH20 Clone with USB charging and ramping UI from Gb arrived today, currently on sale for 10 bucks, I ordered “just for fun”, not expecting much:
Besides the hillarious box and the possibly dangerous UltraFire 18650 it doesn´t look too shabby, will test this evening.
K.
Emitter is a little off center, at least relative to the shroud piece on the drier. Need to adjust it a bit more…. I think. I can’t tell how well the LED is centered relative to the aspheric lens. Still throws like crazy though.
I did a first quick check yesterday. Overall it´s not a terribly bad light for the price, but unfortunately also not a very good light.
Here´s a summary of what I found:
Positive:
overall solid construction, all parts easily accessible, nothing glued
very easy UI (one click on, one click off), fast ramping (3,5 seconds from low to high, 7 seconds for a full circle)
no PWM in any mode visible
takes any kind of 18650 batteries due to 2 springs design
low price
with 520 lumens (calculation via ceiling bounce) enough light for standard purposes
comes with 18650 battery and USB cable
Negative:
Fake XM-L2 LED (possibly LatticeBright clone)
maximium 520 lumens - far less than the claimed 1100 lumens
always starts on HIGH - no memory mode
threads are blank - no mechanical lockout possible
lowest setting still pretty bringt (30-50 lumens)
battery carrier a bit too wide - 18650 rattles inside light
beam has some strange rings on the outside of the spill
color temp is not 5000-6000K, but rather 7000 K, has no blue tint though…
included “UltraFire” TR 3000 is “suspicious”
Not clear yet/needs further tests:
USB charging behaviour (overcharging?)
LVP reliable?
Stand-by Drain of eletronic switch ?!?
I also posted some pictures of the light compared to the NiteCore MH20, see here (German).
