TG05

Lights went out here a few days ago. So time to put my new (Jan. 2017) VG10 to use as a nightlight in moonlight mode. Barely able to tail stand, with a good amount of lean. It would be nice if the switch cap was recessed a little in relation to the tailcap. Really like this light a lot.

I would love a VG-15 XPL-Hi!

Hosts would be excellent to sell in any of your lights. I’ve modded the new version and old version C8s, the TG06, the VG15, and a few VG10s. They are all very easy to mod and it would give us a chance to put what we want in them. I’m sure you’ll sell quite a few more going just the host route because your flashlight bodies are very good quality.

i would love to see a thorfire c8 HOST, also an option to buy spare c8 tail assemblies, plus eventualy a 50mm head c8 version

Moonlight Update:

Moonlight is important for 80% of us:
YES - 16
NO - 4

Moonlight preferred output (Lumens) :

0.1 lm - 4 or 29%
0.2 lm - 1 7%
0.3 lm - 1 7%
0.5 lm - 1 7%
0.9 lm - 3 or 21%
1.0 lm - 4 or 29%

Interesting that k-wong’s poll showed that 0.5 lumen is the most popular output

Wonder why no one ever had a UI where, say, if you had 4 “slots” of light output, you just set 1-255 “clicks” for each setting (setting to 0 means skip that slot). 1 flash for slot 1, through 4 flashes for slot 4. You set ’em as you want ’em. Lets you set:

• firefly, low, mid, high

• mid, low, mid, high

• high, mid, low, moonlight

or whatever your twisted little hearts desire.

Then, no one’d be bitching about “moonlight” being too bright or too dim, or about HML/LMH ordering, or about mode-spacing, etc.

And 255/0/0/0 would be a 1-mode on/off light. 10/255/0/0 would be moon/turbo. Etc.

Gimme a VG10 with that UI, and I’ll kiss ya on the mouth.

+1 I think it would be a smash hit.

To what frequency PWM, you think would be a good one?

S70S

Anyone would be interested in Thorfire host?
VG-10, C8 ….etc

What parts should be included with the host and which shouldn’t?
tube, head, lens, mcpcb, tail switch, driver etc….

C8, VG10, & TG06. Include everything in a complete light except for LED, MCPCB, and driver. Different colored rubber buttons would be nice also, in case you want multiple hosts and have different ideas for each light.

Nice form! I just used that to submit my interest in the TG05 host.

Honestly, I’d keep everything the same except for swapping out the emitter for something a little warmer or with higher CRI.

But those who want to throw in a DD driver, or make it a triple, etc., there’d be some “excess” doing it that way.

Whups, was specifically referring to the VG10.

To me, a C8 is a C8 is a C8, and Thorfire, Convoy, etc., would all make great hosts. (’Though I’d definitely want a forward-clicky switch.)

Not quite sure what’s the obsession with GITD O-rings, switch-boots, etc., though. I prefer Basic Black.

+1 great idea

Thanks what a nice light. I wish they would resurrect it

The VG-10 has forward clicky switch right? would that work in a C8?

OK sofar we have these preferences for a “host only groupbuy” :

- C8s/VG10/TG06 with everything but no LED emitter

- everything but - no LED, no MCPCB, and no driver

- everything but - no star no emitter and no driver.

- C8s tailcap only including switch (Reddit preference)

- Different colored rubber buttons only for tailcap

  • C8s tailcap with forward switch

feel free to chime in :+1:

Yeh. Loooove it.

Dunno if it’d fit a C8. Hmm, never even thought to try.

Most UIs are geared for RC switches, ie, it’s on, and you lightly bap the switch to get to the mode you want. With a FC, you have to do that with the light off, and see how it lights up with a momentary press. Just “different”, not better nor worse.

For a tac-light, you want/need a FC switch, to be able to do a flash’n’dash, ie, a quick momentary press to light up something and then move on, vs having to loudly click it on and then loudly click it off as you would with a RC switch.

But with a FC switch, if you have it on low and want to go to medium, then yes, you’ll have to turn it off, then bap it to go to medium, and then click it to “stick”, or bap it again for the next/next/next… mode until you get to the one you want.

With a 1-mode light, FC absolutely rules…
