Today I grind the top of the tailcap a little bit more and smoothing the edges. Feels more comfortable now when you use the switch and works better with a thick thumb
This is what I used for the grind work with 80 and later 600 sandpaper.
I do wonder if the manufacturer themselves understand what a attractive option the copper version would be modified like this?
If it was sold like this I would have bought it already
Or a lamp with a conversion kit if there was one, not to fond of the original switch implementation on the non ti’s.
I had a spare replacement Tool Ti tailcap laying around (my original tailcap WAS faulty until I took the circuit board out, cleaned the contacts with DeoxIT and screwed it back in).
After receiving my Tool Copper, I decided to have a crack at this mod. I’m quite pleased with the result:
“Ears” cut off with an angle grinder (although could have easily been done with a Dremel), and ground level with my Dremel. Dremel used to sand the end flush, and then worked up sandpaper grits from 120 grit to 1200 (could’ve gone higher but didn’t have anything higher left). Dremel with buffing wheel and polishing compound to buff, and a final polish with Autosol metal polish.
I used 400 grit to 1200 grit and then buffed to give the button a welcoming satin finish.
She’s now my prettiest copper light (her name’s May btw - is that weird?).
Your Lumintop Cu looks very good, is also very nice polished :+1:
I had already forgotten how good the Cu looks polished without patina, great job!
Here is mine with the Massdrop brass:
My Tool Cu is still relatively new, it hasn’t had much of a chance to develop patina yet.
I think that it’ll look nice with a natural patina, yours definitely does
Pulling up an old thread to explore a problem I’m having with this mod. I followed the above steps and everything went very well. Been EDCing it for six months or so. The issue I’m having is the switch will sometimes not operate correctly. Clicks may not switch from one to another, or may not turn off the light at all just keeps cycling without shutting off. Ideas?
