For the very, very small percentage of people that do “tear a light down before they even turn it on,” there are literally hundreds of people - if not more, and yes, even right here on BLF - that don’t. For that small percentage that does do such a thing, to even hint at some type of complaint that Jaxman doesn’t provide such a moddable light is , well, quite self serving at best.

By providing not two, but three different LED options to the consumer for this light, Jaxman has more than covered the base for most of their potential buyers.

I find it rather obtuse to complain about a light available to consumers on a large scale while at the same time backhandedly insisting that their lights and designs would be any better. Different strokes for different folks. One needs to look no further than the design thread for the “vaunted” A6 to see evidence of this.

Mad scientists in their parent’s basement be damned while the rest of us use credit cards on AliExpress to buy Jaxman lights. :wink:

There is a reason though why there are very few in the mass produced flashlight business…and then there are the many “engineers” that can only bitch and whine about it on a forum. :wink:

It is to be expected that many BLF members avoid glued lights though.
Sure, not all of us are like that, but many are, and they are also contributing to development by trying different things.
I guess that’s why there’s a market for hosts too.
And how about the tiny problems many budget lights unfortunately have?
When it’s all glued it’s very hard to repair things.
You will bitch and whine too when you can’t open a light that has a simple problem you could otherwise fix or improve quite easily.

The more important question here though is, has anyone had any of those problems with a Jaxman light? Or is it simply a case of putting the cart in front of the horse? I mean, are these the very same folks that go out to dinner and put salt on their meal before they’ve even tried it?

I have already ordered an E2L because it seems quite good for the price. I would like to tinker down the road though and if they were to offer the E2L with a nichia triple and perhaps a more powerful driver I would buy another.

@Jaxman - re: the glue, the other thing to consider is that as shown in your OP, it's quite excessive. Unless there's some proprietary sauce in there that allows the heat conductivity to exceed (or even match) metal<>metal (in this case, I'm assuming Cu (300+ W/mK) to Al (200+ W/mK) thermal conductivity, only enough should be used to fill the micro gaps between the two mating surfaces. As a general rule re: glue, less really is more, and anything in excess is counterproductive for heat conductivity since even the best thermal epoxies (10+ W/mK) pale in comparison to the two aforementioned metals.

The E2L looks promising, good luck with the sales.

Jaxman did right by us by offering a host and understanding the comments made.
Notice how replacing the glue with silicone was suggested — and immediately flagged as a bad alternative.
Notice the information on thermal conductivity — heat transfer — and how thick — or rather, thin — the material ought to be.

You don’t need an engineer to know which way the heat flows.

Will the extension tube threads from the Z1 fit this new flashlight body?
I find it tempting to use with a LED and driver that will require using 2-battery cells

Harsh? Hardly. I’m extremely critical of those that simply want to slag on a manufacturer simply because they don’t think a given manufacturer “put the correct LED in a light,” or “uses the wrong optic,” or any other nonsensical complaint about a light they probably have no real desire for anyway - except to try to reengineer that which is already working fine.

Even here on BLF, most people aren’t of the “let me get a light and change it before I even turn it on because I know I can make it ‘better’” mindset. I’d wager that the flashlight production field would be vastly different if all of these armchair engineers actually tried to produce a large production flashlight. Use FourSevens as but a single example of one manufacturer that initially catered to the fancies of the very tiny but very vocal minority and produced lights said people called for. Now what do they produce? Lights that most people actually want, instead of what the very few, but again, very vocal minority were - and still are - clamoring for.

My much larger but very clearly missed point was why slag on a manufacturer for not making the exact light that a few want when those few can simply go to Mtn Electronics and buy all the individual parts they want and then create until they can’t create anymore? They can be the flashlight engineers that the much larger - and, coincidentally, more successful - producers “aren’t.” I’m sure all their friends are tearing down their doors with wallets in hand ready to purchase such monumental engineering feats that the lighting industry could only one day hope to produce.

Besides, my opinion certainly won’t change the minds of the very few but very vocal minority that will continue to cry out to be satiated by flashlight producers.

To my point, I see you’ve already made your demand to Jaxman above on how you will build a much “better” light…

The people you’re arguing with are not here.

That’s why we prefer lights that aren’t glued tight. If you spend a little time here you’ll see that’s been an issue with several other manufacturers. Not just my issue.

I’m in no position to demand anything. I’ve asked Jaxman here in the past for a host and been delighted to be offered the opportunity to buy one (and Jaxman made hosts available to everyone here to mutual benefit).

Same situation here — they find out what we like because it’s useful for them to know, and we try to be helpful and not rude about it.

Hoosh, we are not so demanding with every flashlight, but particularly on this flashlight because it seems extremely useful as a host. Most of us modders can swap parts and many fancier things, but we can not machine the flashlight itself. This is the first flashlight that is in stock form build for triple optics and uses only standard parts and sizes. I’m sure for many people it is great as it is, but for the (pretty large) group of modders on BLF it promises to be a dream host as well.

jaxman, I ordered the EL2 last night, along with the higher powered UV light. Would it be possible for you to send me the EL2 in host form, unassembled? I have Nichia 219C emitters that I would like to use.

I already have 2 Nichia UV lights, one with the highest emmitter (NVSU333A) and one with the (NVSU233A), yours will round out my UV collection nicely and the black lens is really a nice addition, looking forward to that! I’m wondering if you might be able to help me source a 35mm lens in that UV pass type? I have the NVSU333A in a full Copper X6 at 3640mW (3.5Amp) and it would be really nice to have that specialty glass.
