From Dx which eventually landed after a bit of waiting, I swapped the FET for one from MTN which basically doubled its output then I removed the MCPCB and de-domed all the LEDās in one go which improved the throw a lot and warmed up the cool LEDās
Only downside is the driver which would be nice to replace it only as bright or very bright as modes at a guess 4000 lumens on full and 2000 on low, itās low is now better than before had as itās max. Also low has audible whine so itās always used on full now.
I am not a huge modder and this is the first time I am sharing this mini mod. Built a 219C triple S2+ and used coins/solder to create the spacer. By far the most time consuming mod I have done to date.
Thank you for the contest and huge thanks to RMM as well.
Iāve done mods but havenāt posted because they are simply not as neat or spectacular as most of whatās posted here. Yesterday, I cut the head of a VG10 short and put a triple, seoul, z power LED star inside mostly because these LEDs, though low luminesence, has the best tint Iāve ever seen! (and they were the only triples I havee, lol) Tools used, file, hacksaw, knife, wire cutter. YES, it was a PITA to do with hand tools and thereās a blister to show for it! lol. Driver is an RMM, FET+1. No current measurements taken as yet. ( I still have to put epoxy around the colimator to make it waterproof.)
Congratulations on the 7000 true flashoholic posts, ImA4Wheelr!
A mod that required a lot of fixing before it finally turned out right, a Solarstorm SC02 modded with DrJones RGBW driver, colour XP-E2ās and a Nichia 219A high CRI:
After joining BLF, this is the first light I modded. Originally it was Black and had a CREE X-PE. Ran on 3 - AAA cells and for itās size it threw pretty good. What I did was strip off the Black anodizing and I tried to re-anodize and stain it Purple. After many attempts I just couldnāt get all 3 pieces the same shade of purple. So I settled on just anodizing the center tube and I buffed the tailcap and head. I also upgraded it to an XM-L, Direct Drive and used some copper pennies for a heat sink. Later I converted it to run on a single 18500 Li-ion. Back then, it never occurred to me to post my efforts.
Like I mentioned, my very first LED mod.
Congratulations on surviving BLF for so long without going Bankrupt!

$$$ toward RMM is an awesome giveaway! I think Iāll enter!
So Iāll mention my DIY triple spacer mod I coincidentally posted here TWO YEARS AGO TODAY!
Using a 3/4ā brass PEX plug from Lowes, I was able to successfully make spacers for my triple builds. This has worked very well, as I have built three triples using this same $2.19 plumbing piece:
1. A triple 2.8A regulated high-CRI Nichia 219b in a Convoy S2
2. A triple 2.8A regulated XM-L2 in a Convoy S3
3. A triple FET-Driven XP-L HI in a Convoy S6
ā¦and they have all worked great using this technique.
Congrats on the 7K posts! Not very high quality modding, but I got my Sunwayman V11R turned into a triple running on AA battery. https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/33424
