Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

OH MYYYY! She's a beauty. Congrats Q8 development team. That looks like a real winner.

Please add me to the interest list for 1.

Thanks.

I have a question about the size. I know, I could do a bunch of research myself and find the answer, but maybe somebody could answer it easily and save me lots of trouble. Compared to ā€œstandardā€ sized SRK style lights, is the head of the Q8 a larger diameter, or the tube smaller diameter, or both? Because SRKā€™s are tube style, meaning there is not a head that is bigger than the body, rather all is the same diameter (Edit: or very nearly the same). I like the look of the Q8, so this isnā€™t a complaint. Iā€™m just curious about the proportional size(s).

The head diam. matches a few SRK clones I have, so the head diam is definitely standard. As far as the battery tube goes, it's probably narrower because the classic SRK has these machined railings along the body with holes to secure a lanyard on. Those are eliminated in this design. If you look around though (like on eBay), the "new style SRK" looks very similar to the Q8, in that the battery tube is void of railings and has knurling. I like the new knurling style, both for looks and feel. Dunno who came first - the Q8 or this new style. I posted pics of my gold 12X SRK a while with the new styling:

Clearly on this one, the head is wider than the body/tube, but pretty sure the head diam on this one is also std size.

Here's another comparative shot:

Yes we took the widest finned of SRKs
But instead of just a few fins and then a narrower head the width of the Q8 head stays fatter to accommodate more mass and fins thus better cooling.

Okay, I guess I was just showing my ignorance. :person_facepalming:

Thanks for the explanations and pictures. :+1:

Nice! What is the estimated lumen output for Q8?

Officially 4K
But donā€™t be surprised if it does significantly more

DavidEF, I donā€™t know nuthin bout standard SRKā€™s, the Q8 will be my first, but TomE went into dimensions on the first prototype extensively here.

and specifically stated this:

  • outer dimensions are dead-on with standard SRKā€™s at 59.0mm head, 50.0 mm tube, 52.0mm at tailcap, 135.1mm length

Post #3348 and post #3390 should answer this: ~5,600 lumens. Our official line has been 4,000+, but as you can see, proto #1 did much better. Also, add ~400 when the springs are bypassed, maybe another ~400 if using SONY VTC6 cells. Proto #2 has double springs, so we should see higher #'s stock (no bypassed springs) than the stock proto #1, but all depends if other changes have impact.

This is all based on my very unofficial PVC based lightbox, but I've done a ton of light measurements with it, and seems to be in the ballpark of accuracy.

looking darn good! is the reflector the same as prototype 1?

Thorfire is shipping two prototype V2 to Tom so we know in a week KR so.

We donā€™t know yet, the prototype has not left China yet. Tom will know soonā€¦

I looked at the pics carefully, comparing to proto #1 in hand, and I'd say the reflector is identical for the part we can see in the pic (top view). Dimensionally, the reflector cups look identical, and the cup wall separators look identical as well. Yea, I was concerned bout that as well.

Also looks like the LED alignment pieces are the same (round), and the underlying MCPCB is still white, but could be the LED's are centered better, hard to say for sure, if #2's are perfectly centered though - still look a little off. Honestly though, even with off centered in #1, I can't tell by the beam or output.

Good to see that the Q8 is another step closer to being available. I wonā€™t order the VTC6s just yet though!

Just noticed the LED indicator in the switch .

Looking forward to this sampleā€™s review  I have a very hood feeling about the driver !

I love that hood feeling!

Hahahahha:D
Damn g

Yeah we canā€™t wait what Tom finds inside!

Looks fantastic!!! :+1: ā€¦
