Can I sell a light I haven't built yet? Build-to-order Astrolux S41, Manker E14

I have two Astrolux S41 (18350 body) and two Manker E14 (18650 body) that have damaged LEDs. I plan to repair them by reflowing new LEDs, reworking the optic so that it does not damage the new LEDs, and reflow soldering the MCPCB to the copper pill/head for better thermal path. So basically they will be better than new.

I plan to sell the lights after repairing them.

If you would like to buy one, what LED option would you like?

  1. Nichia 219B 4000K 90+ CRI D220 (base cost)
  2. Nichia 219C 5000K 80+ CRI D280 (add $4 to base cost)
  3. Nichia 219C 4000K 90+ CRI D240 (add $4 to base cost)

Kind of depends what you mean by base cost  to answer yoir title

Cool though give led choice.

Well the base light price would be reasonable, I’m not looking to make real money here, just cover costs. And unlike many stupid sellers that I encounter on local Craigslist, I realize my cost does not dictate what the market says the item is worth. She’s, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people selling items for more than they cost new, and when you tell them that, they just say, “well I paid $X so therefore it must be worth that.”

I was really more trying to figure out what LED choice would be popular before I started up the soldering iron, wondering if people would just take the default cheap option, or pay a few bucks more for other options.

Edit: I guess I could just look at the poll that’s been running in the sidebar, gathering data about what people’s favorite color temp is… Lol.

I know this is a sales thread… but You might want to keep one and make a triple out of it?

I turned my S41’s into triples, (5700k and 4000k Nichia’s) they get hot, but the quads got stupid hot, really fast using these Nichia’s!

And the triple optic won’t be shrouded by the bezel - unlike the quad!

Just say’in! Good Luck with your sale!!!

Quit flaunting your lights with glow-on…you’re going to make me go spend money on some.

Well I’ve actually got five of them, but the one I’m keeping is getting the 4500K R9080 emitters from Clemence’s group buy.

You are correct,“stupid hot” is an accurate term for this light. I actually removed the spring bypasses from my personal light because it was just too much. I’ll bypass the springs of a buyer wants, but honestly I wouldn’t recommend it.

 Hahaa sorry dj - I sent pics to Glow-On and for letting them use my pics to post in forums - they sent me 3 sheets of the stuff! :person_facepalming: It is really nice stuff - the vinyl GITD!

Don’t think anyone gave you a straight answer yet and so here is one: If I were to buy one, it would be 219C 4000K.

+1

ME too!

My choice would be 1.Nichia 219B 4000K 90+ CRI D220 (base cost)

I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that nobody wants the 219C D280 80+CRI, it’s kind of no-man’s land of not-the-best CRI and not-the-best output either. But I have to say that I’ve tried them in another light and been pretty impressed. The 80+CRI is a noticeable improvement over the standard 70cri, and the next step up to 90cri isn’t as noticeable (to me) as the initial step from 70 to 80 was. And the D280 is also a fair improvement over D240 output. So while on paper it seems like an LED that’s not great at anything, in my experience it’s actually an LED that pretty good at both things.

I’m not trying to sell them, I’m just making conversation.
