Difference between Opus BT-C3400 & BT-C3100 v2.1?

My new SMPS never exceeded 94F.

Keep in mind this is the surface temperature at the warmest point. I do not have equipment to measure internal temperature.

This gives a pretty good idea, and w/ Mr. Heatsink I believe it will not be much more than 80F. I will post that when I test it.

The real improvement will be w/ my Fenix ARE-C2. I am betting[just by feel] that it will be at least a 35 degree reduction in heat w/ my heat sink.

Hi…my 1st time here……please be gentle

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience ordering up the Opus BT-C3100 V2.2 (has been rebranded as a Zeepin Opus….) from China. I recently did (at a reasonably good price) and was curious if anyone can speak of their experience (quality, reliability, etc.) and/or have a way to confirm (or deny) the product is a rebranding and not a knock-off/fake. Labels are easily created. Thought maybe something etched or silkscreened on the circuit board might be an indicator.

Thanks in advance….cheers….

Welcome to BLF!

I never heard of the Re branded version. Maybe someone else has and they can help you.

Maybe if you post some pictures that will help us determine if it is a fake?

In regards to the testing that I have been doing w/ my NEW SMPS.

As I indicated before, ALL of my Six tests[3 Failures/3 successes] were done the same way. That is the batteries were put in around 4.10/4.12v for the Opus to top it off/discharge then charge back up.

I thought I would do the ENTIRE test in the Opus to make sure it could handle that extra session of charging, even though that part had nothing to do with the failure.

So I put 4 X 18650 Samsung 30Q FT in. All @ 3.64v. The test was another SUCCESS!

The only thing that is yet to be determined is the durability and longevity of my $6.99 SMPS! I do have an $8.38 SMPS coming Saturday for back up!

Are you talking about Zeepin? On the posting on Aliexpress, depending on which you choose (color and US or European) it either says Zeepin or Opus on the upper face of the product. Boxes look about the same with what appears to be a slight option in color (gray vs. blue/gray???).

I posted a similar query on slickdeals (where the original deal was posted) and someone mentioned that Opus is already a branding of the product, that Opus buys from OEMs and puts their label on it. I suppose that would make what I ordered a rebranded rebrand, so to speak.

When my unit arrives (which should be sometime in the next couple of weeks) I’ll take a pic and post it. It will be interesting to get feedback on it.

Also, Aliexpress claims full refund if the unit is determined to be a fake (wonder if that would include a fully functional knock-off…hmmmm).

Thanks for the welcome and the offer of help. Seemed like this was a good place for feedback (even tho the forum is about “budget lights” (Big grin )

Cheers….

I RARELY buy over seas. There are plenty of GREAT dealers in the USA. One is 1.5 miles from me where I bought my Opus and get my batteries!

He lives across the street from me and is a great guy and his customer service can not be beat. it would take too long[especially since I need to go!] to tell you all the favors/deals he has given me in the last 2+ years!

Link below:

I was just responding to your curiosity/concern of the re branded Opus. I do not know anything about it!

,have a nice day on the LEFT Coast!,Wolfdog1226/Capolini ! :sunglasses:

Just wanted to add a +1 to this. I haven’t specifically checked it out, but if the small fans used in the charger are 5 or 12 VDC, they prob’ly draw much less than 100 mA (0.1 A), maybe less than 50 mA and you most likely would never see a spark from that low level of current. It would have to be up closer to 1 A or greater to see any kind of sparking. Caps are most likely the cause due to near complete discharge, especially if the unit has been left unplugged for a reasonable amount of time. Then the caps would look almost like a short for a very short time (thus, the inrush current) to the supply.

If you want to avoid the sparking (and eventual corrosion of the connector(s)), plug the adapter into the charger 1st, then plug the adapter into the wall. Current drawn from the AC outlet would be much, much less than that drawn by the charger (12V x 3A = 36W max, therefore, 36W/120VAC = 0.3A or 300 mA max, and much less if only 1A is drawn from the adapter at inrush).

Cheers….

Appreciate the link. If my purchase turns out to be valid, I just got a BT-C3100 V2.2 for about half the price (including shipping). Have to wait and see……

Not only not about just flashlights, but “political” commentary, as well.

I will enjoy, thanks…70 degree days, little humidity, beautiful blue skies (except for the bit of rain we’re having over the next few days). And, yes, many of us tend to lean left, but not until we’ve had a few glasses of wonderful California wine.

Cheers to you and all my American brethren. Glad to live in a great country (if one ignores some of the crap that goes on :frowning:

wolfdog1226, you are a gentleman & a scholar…… :+1:
Thank you for testing the theory out! Apparently the problem is solved ……
Well done.

Thank you it was fun and I gained some knowledge doing so!

My dealer just reimbursed me for my SMPS!

He thanked me for all of my R&D that was actually done by many of us on here!

:+1: … Excellent.

I am glad I have two SMPS. The second one arrived today. I was planning on having that one as my back up because the SUPERNIGHT works Super! It is definitely my back up now!

This back up is getting its first test now. It just passed the transition from Discharge to Charge. I thought it was going to reset numerous times and it is still demonstrating that behavior even at the 3.40v mark!

After transition I hear a slight power loss and then it is restored. It has been doing that every 30 seconds[I timed it!] for 15 minutes! The SUPERNIGHT never did that.

Imagine someone revving up an engine very slowly and then releasing very slowly and then doing the same thing. That is the only description I can think of.Basically the fan noise weakens because the power is weakening. It is also WARMER now than the SUPERNIGHT was @ 4.1v which was the peak of heat intensity. We are only at 3.48v!

Hopefully the SUPERNIGHT will last! I would not trust this back up for long!

Good info…… What is the brand name of it… so as to avoid?

I agree………my first thought is that its NOT 12v/5a,or defective.

The thing only cost $7.38! It is still money,I will email dealer and go from there. I hope it is NOT more aggravation than what it is worth.

It is FALVOCANO,No mention of the name on the unit but that is what the advertisement says.

I contacted then, hopefully things go smooth!

This is the one, stay away from it!! The envelope is still warm and it put it in there 10 minutes ago!

How about a 12v/6a? or 12v/8a down the road?

If I got one of those it would most assuredly have enough power even if it did not meet specs.

Technically, I do not even need a back up because the ONLY time the original SMPS W/ the Opus failed was when it was ~ 2.8v/2.9v when it transitioned.

It charged 4 X 18650 w/ no problem when they go in as usual,3.6/3.7v. I have no more batteries to test and do not need any for awhile!

Can a 12v/8a/10a SMPS hurt my charger? My guess is no, it will just have more power and room for cooling?

How do I know that these are better quality? How do I know how long they have been used and the duration of use per day? Don’t they sell those kind new?

Thanks,Dr. Capolini,“King of questions and analyzer to perfection”!

When I buy a car[used] i can see the condition it is in and how many miles are on it!

You leave my SUPERNIGHT alone!! It is top of the line primo quality! You recommended it , right??? That is right, you did not know I was going to get it!No justifying Gausse, bottom line you recommended it!!! :stuck_out_tongue: So PIPE DOWN once and for all!!

,HAPPY EASTER,Capolini,Qui Riposa in pace

ok,maybe I will use that as a main one and my SUPERNIGHT as a backup!!

How come these used ones never tell what size the barrel connectors are?

ok,so where is the NEW ones?!! This is another used one!
