I never said you claimed that it was high quality. I am saying that you recommended it and have badgered it several times since! You want me to open it up because it may be shabby. Shortly after you recommended it you posted others for Teacher that are supposedly better!

Supernight is doing fine ,does not get hot and has gotten the job done so far!

I am IMPRESSED!!! I got a refund already for the SMPS that did not work right!!! I guess they do not want the piece of crap back!

I saw some reviews on it and a guy said it could not deliver more than 1 amp!

I emailed the Ebay Hitachi seller to find out what size the barrel connector is. I want it to be 2.1mm NOT 2.5mm even if the latter fits, I am sure it would be losse.

If you prefer not to take a (slight) risk on a used high-quality SMPS then you can get a new one for slightly more, e.g. $10.45 for a 12V/66W LITEON PA-1660-2SA1. This was probably manufactured in the past year or so given the FCC ID application date of 2015-10-29, and the fact that it meets the latest efficiency Level VI. So it is a latest tech SMPS from a top-tier manufacturer at a great price.

As I mentioned before, I didn’t say the SuperNight was high-quality. Rather, I gave it as an example of very cheap SMPS on eBay.

It is listed for .99 cents!!! I guess that is an error!

The barrel connector is the 2.5mm NOT the 2.1mm.

Do they sell an adapter/converter piece to attach to the 2.5mm and converts to 2.1mm? I would think the 2.5mm would be loose and I do not want that.

How about this brand NEW Hitachi…only $41.79!!! More than I paid for my opus! Its connector is the 2.5mm…….I would assume the Ebay one is the same. :person_facepalming:

The photo shows it is an “Upbright”, not a Hitachi/Delta. When it says “for XYZ” it means it is a generic/clone replacement compatible with XYZ.

Many 2.5mm barrels include a spring so they are also compatible with 2.1mm pins. If not you can buy an inexpensive adapter.

I already have 2 power cords. SUPERINGHT and the faulty SMPS one where they do not want it back,I guess shipping a faulty piece of junk would be more of a loss for them. No complaints,free power cord and reimbursed in 3 hours!

^ No, that’s the wrong conversion - enlarging the hole (which is far more commonly needed since you can’t plug a fat center pin into a skinny hole). Instead you need to shrink the hole. So the adapter’s center pin should be a fat 2.5mm, and it’s opposite hole should be a skinny 2.1mm. Often there is confusion about which connector is male and which is female, so you need to be careful. This listing makes it clear that it is the correct choice.

There’s a good chance you won’t need an adapter. Even if you don’t these common DC connector converters are useful to have around since eventually you may need one (both directions are useful, i.e shrinking and enlarging the hole).

OK,Thanks,glad I asked. It is confusing because when I saw 5.5mm/2.5mm to 5.5mm to 2.1mm I thought it was right. the female/male part was what Screwed[!] me up!

LITEON is a top-tier SMPS manufacturer, the OEM for many laptop SMPS (e.g. Dell), etc. The Hitachi is made by Delta, which is also top-tier. The Delta is probably older than the LITEON, but I can’t be sure since I see no markings that reveal its age.

If you bought either from DigiKey or Mouser they’d probably cost $40 or more shipped.

The Lite on is brand new.

Why? As I said, there’s a good chance you won’t need it, and you can always use the SuperNight till then. You can probably find the 2.5 to 2.1 connector adapter in USA (if not on eBay then try DigiKey or Mouser).

Got my LITE-ON SMPS Today. 12V/5.5A/66W. Works like a charm……not even close to warm. :+1: Supernight demoted to back up.

If you decide to get barrel connector adapters I would recommend the ones below.

They are at a right angle which saves me room because my Fenix ARE-C2 is right in front of the Opus.

Plus its arrival date is anywhere b/w 10 and 26 days earlier than the first Two I got which are straight. I could get mine next week. These are coming from China like the first two I ordered.

Keep in mind, Wolfdog1226/Capolini and others that the Inside temp. was:

EDIT: It is 84F outside and 77F in my condo. The SUPERNIGHT MAX TEMP. was 94F.

The indoor temp for yesterdays initial test was 67F and today is 66F. The Lite-on has the pleasure of being in 10 and 11 degree cooler testing environment.

With that said, I doubt if the Lite-on would reach 94F under the same circumstances as the Supernight in 77F degree flashlight laboratory temperatures!

My 4 X 18650 Orbtronics are at 3.70V now,charging after the discharge test. The external temp. of the Lite-on is 68F. The peak temp is ~ 4.10v .I will re check it then.

ALL in all this is not a fair test until Flashlight laboratory is the same temp. for the Lite-on! It does give an indication that Lite-on is working well and not under stress! :sunglasses:

Starting Voltage: 2.80v immediately after Discharge/Test
Ending Voltage: 4.20V

Participants: Supernight 12V/5A/60W…….Lite-on 12V/5.5A/66W

Supernight
Indoor temperature- 77F/25C
Max external temp.–94F/34C
Difference:17F/9C

Lite-on
Indoor temperature:66F/19C
Max external temp.–69F/20C
Difference:3F/1C

When The temperature reaches 77F/25C in my condo I will do another test w/ the Lite-on. MY guess is that its external temperature will not exceed 84F/29C. :sunglasses:

The holes themselves seem identical in SIZE. The smaller S’night 2.1mm seems to use a spring loaded pin/clip, almost like a flexible cotter pin to reduce the size.
