Difference between Opus BT-C3400 & BT-C3100 v2.1?

Nice!! Can you put a link to where you got it Wolfdog please.
Was the barrel plug the right size or did you get an adapter?
Thanks for your research & testing on this.

Sorry, can not provide the info,u never answered my email!!! :smiling_imp:

I do not have the adapters yet. However, it fits fine, you can barely tell it is slightly bigger. Adapter really is not needed but since I ordered a few I will probably us them. Mr. Opus is happy.

Settimio told me about it. $10.45 ,3 days from Calif. to Suburban Philly. :+1:

Crap……. I forgot. :person_facepalming:
I’ll get right on that. … cause it was a good one!

can you no longer buy from Ebay without an account??

My guess is that you would need to have an account to order from them, I do not know for sure.

If you decide to get barrel connector adapters I would recommend the ones below.

They are at a right angle which saves me room because my Fenix ARE-C2 is right in front of the Opus.

Plus its arrival date is anywhere b/w 10 and 26 days earlier than the first Two I got which are straight. I could get mine next week. These are coming from China like the first two I ordered.

Keep in mind, Wolfdog1226/Capolini and others that the Inside temp. was:

EDIT: It is 84F outside and 77F in my condo. The SUPERNIGHT MAX TEMP. was 94F.

The indoor temp for yesterdays initial test was 67F and today is 66F. The Lite-on has the pleasure of being in 10 and 11 degree cooler testing environment.

With that said, I doubt if the Lite-on would reach 94F under the same circumstances as the Supernight in 77F degree flashlight laboratory temperatures!

My 4 X 18650 Orbtronics are at 3.70V now, charging after the discharge test. The external temp. of the Lite-on is 68F. The peak temp is ~ 4.10v .I will re check it then.

ALL in all this is not a fair test until Flashlight laboratory is the same temp. for the Lite-on! It does give an indication that Lite-on is working well and not under stress! :sunglasses:

Since the room temperatures have been different. This is the Only comparison I can give.

Test: SMPS Max external Temperature when charging 4 X 18650 3400mah

Starting Voltage: 2.80v immediately after Discharge/Test
Ending Voltage: 4.20V

Participants: Supernight 12V/5A/60W…….Lite-on 12V/5.5A/66W

Supernight
Indoor temperature- 77F/25C
Max external temp.–94F/34C
Difference:17F/9C

Lite-on
Indoor temperature:66F/19C
Max external temp.–69F/20C
Difference:3F/1C

When The temperature reaches 77F/25C in my condo I will do another test w/ the Lite-on. MY guess is that its external temperature will not exceed 84F/29C. :sunglasses:

Photos of the S’night 2.1mm Barrel Connector and the Lite-on 2.5mm Barrel connectors.

The holes themselves seem identical in SIZE. The smaller S’night 2.1mm seems to use a spring loaded pin/clip, almost like a flexible cotter pin to reduce the size.

Supernight 2.1mm

Lite-on 2.5mm-Angle shot I turned this around in Post image,it will Not display that way on here???

Lite-on on TOP-Sorry for the blurry picture.

Side by side. Lite-on is on top. It has a shorter :exposed” barrel.

Upon further review I would definitely get the adapters. It works but connectivity can be a problem at times. I just moved the unit slightly and it shut off. A proper 2.1mm connection will make it much more secure.

I got a 10’ cable 5.5mm X 2.5m female to 5.5mm X 2.1mm Male coming on Friday!!! :sunglasses: YES,IT IS 10’!! But I can use it for a few weeks at least until the single pieces come from China!

Wolf-dawg…… I crown you—— Power Supply & Adapter Connector —- Finder & Tester Extraordinaire. :crown: ….
With the help of your willing & worthy assistant guass163 giving technical advice of course. :+1:

I just ordered one of THESE and two of THESE

I went for the free shipping, but I already have a tracking number for both…. so hopefully that is a good sign. :+1:

Thanks to you and everyone who helped in solving this mystery problem. :+1:

^

AFAIK You should be good to go as long as they send “Us” the right ones!! :+1:

The right angle ones are more beneficial for my use[mentioned in earlier post] and according to their time line and my calculations they will be here 10 to 26 days sooner than the Straight ones from China.

Straight ones I ordered first!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/142340377628

-Then I ordered a 10’ cable w/ the proper connectors from USA [Indiana]! That should be here Friday.

-Then the 90 degree angle ones! I think I will have plenty of adapters!

That is why I listened to my Cousin Settimio and got one. Only $3.50 more than my Supernight! :+1:

I was meant to have the Lite-on. :sunglasses:

The Hitachi was not meant to be. I said I wanted a brand NEW SMPS.Not a USED one like the Hitachi was.

However, along with a BLF members suggestion[can’t recall his name]and before my Cousin Settimio[Electrical engineer] convinced me, I emailed the Ebay Hitachi dealer to see if it was a 2.1mm connector:

Hitachi OEM Genuine 60W 12V 5A ADP-60WB AC Power Adapter Supply for LCD Monitor

New message from: usefulgadget Top Rated Seller(232,595RedShooting Star)

Sadly it is no longer available. We will be doing a sweep later to close these listings when we doublecheck the system for inventory count.

For this item, it was a 5.5mm outer by 2.1mm inner.

Best regards

No reason to get defensive.

All I said was I was meant to have the Lite-on. I did not want a used SMPS and the Hitachi eliminated itself by not being in stock anymore.

Here is a breakdown for the credit of my purchase:

Cousin Settimio-50%
Wolfdog-25.1%
G163-24.9%

Thanks everyone! :+1:

I just bought This to be able to use my Opus in the car.

^

Let us know how it works. I hope it serves you well.

Thanks for the replies!

I am aware of the voltage fluctuations. Nice to know the Opus is not too specific on input voltage. I will only connect it to the socket after engine start or after shutdown.
I had a car plugtip being fried once when running a 12volt coolbox while driving in the car on holiday. But I think it pulled more than 3amp. Could as well be due to a bad connection with high resistance and thus high temperature.

I’ll give it a shot and hopefully the fuse pops before the opus if things work out bad. In that case I guess I can place a new fuse and lower the Opus charging mAh and be fine.

So — can someone sum up?

Is the power supply currently (heh) provided with the Opus charger inadequate?

Assuming need to buy another power supply, how to identify models that are
— best (level 6) energy efficient and
— “green” (low power draw so not wasteful to leave plugged in)

The Eagle (USPS) is about to land……

Well, I just checked USPS Tracking and my package containing power supply from “speaker_joe” (ebay) is out for delivery to my humble abode. :+1:

I place the order about noon on 19 April & it should be in my mailbox about noon today, 21 April.

That is two (2) days from California to NW Alabama!!!
Talk about fast shipping…. speaker_joe must have had it out the door headed to me a couple of minutes after I placed the order.
Wow………

I actually think this may be only the second thing I have ever bought off ebay……… :open_mouth::wink:
But if I can find more guys like him it won’t be the last. :+1:

speaker_joe on ebay gets a 10 star out of a possible 5 star rating from me.
I would highly recommend him to anyone!!!

If you were to read this……. Thank You speaker_joe!!! :+1:

EDIT: This is just such cool, fast shipping I had to post the Tracking as evidence.
