Official Thread for COMETA Refunding - Problem solving

Banggood claim that they have solved the problem in their reply to a review…

“Dear, thank you for your review and the product have been upgraded, adding a insulating ring.If you have any question, please email to the service@banggood.com,our guys will help you solve the problem, thanks!”

I dont know if it is true but the EU warehouse price is quite tempting (32.69:money_mouth_face:, so I would be very grateful if someone who have the “upgraded” version could maybe shed some light on this?

Only choice I am seeing for the USA is $59.95…… may be different elsewhere. …. :+1:

IF you do buy the thing…… DO NOT pay any attention at all to what Banggood says.

Do a search here on BLF and do the simple things that are outlined & fix it yourself. That way you know it is done properly. (if you do it properly that is… . )

It cannot be said any plainer…………

Well recap of real issues:
the disc protcts from short from using cells with wide top, this must be covered so not an issue anymore.
The pill however can cut through the wires (the sharp edges of the pill and the dtpstar can be too tight.
AFAIK this is not fixed and even a “fixed pill” they send me had the same issue.

Confirm for 32.69$ from EU Warehouse.

I was going to jump at this price once I know for what to be careful when I buy it.
I have Cometa and Jaxman Z1 is on the way.

Here is a link to every simple thing you need to do to a Cometa to make it, or make sure it is; completely ready to use.

Follow these simple instructions BEFORE you install batteries and power it up.

Nothing to do with safety, but see this also concerning Lens & Wire upgrades

That price is pretty good & everything you need to know is in the link posted above, :+1:

Remember also that the lens has a poor tint & a lot of them were delivered with varying degrees of damage to the lens.
I bought genuine Jaxman Z1 lenses & fitted them to my Cometa”s.
A much better lens with nicer tint, nicer beam & more lumen output.
With other mods (fitted heavier gauge led wires like it was supposed to have in the first place & did a spring bypasses) I have got the output up to over 1,200 lumens (1,260 iirc) where as stock my Cometa was under 1,000 lumens so short of the claimed 1,300 lumens.

Buy a Jaxman and get a nice driver in it, like Texas Avenger

@vresto, it seems the owners’ conclusion is that the European price is good enough for the offer. teacher has indicated the checks before use.
As I wrote above, I would buy at this price …
Very good form factor. Something like the father of sk68.

Good point… I added a link to your post up in #171. :+1:

The “missing in action” cyberescudo has recently re-appeared, now doing light reviews on CPF.

I started to say… “Are you serious??” :open_mouth:

But of course you are if you posted this!! Thanks for the heads up on that stephenk…… :+1:

I’ll be sure to avoid any & all lights cyberescudo has any contact with at all…. if for nothing else just as a matter of principle.

Oh yeah, does anyone know for sure if “cyberescudo” is male or female?

Back during the Cometa fiasco I had it on supposedly good intel the answer was female. I never could verify however.

Just curious upon once again hearing “that name” mentioned………

What a hoot……… :person_facepalming:

Cyberescudo missing in action on CPF from 04-23-2016, 11:49 AM to 03-28-2017, 02:45 AM…. almost a year.

Then come back hawking…. [THIS](REVIEW Fenix TK47 (XHP35 HI NW, Tail Light, 2x18650) | Candle Power Flashlight Forum , [THIS](REVIEW EagTac T25L-R (XHP35 HI, 1x18650, 2xCR123, Type C rechargeable) | Candle Power Flashlight Forum , and trying to get picked to do one Here for MANKER . :person_facepalming:

Wow………. :person_facepalming:

So far that is Fenix, EagleTac, & possibly MANKER off my list due to ole’ cyber reviewing them…… :smiling_imp:
If the reviews of other brands keep coming I may have to rethink my original statement………

And still MIA here on BLF……………

The last time the wiley cyberescudo posted here on BLF was………. Mon, 05/09/2016 - 12:39 #1522
And the last time signed into account was……… Cyberescudo / Offline / Last seen: 4 months 1 week ago

Imagine that……… :person_facepalming:

This is hilarious, and if it were not so outright pathetic… it would be really hilarious. :person_facepalming:

EDIT: I really do find it most hilarious that “someone” considered this post “RUDE” & clicked the button.
………… Click on my friend, click on. :+1:

The xml2 Z1’s are about 30% the throw, 65% of the output, and 200%(modded to cometa specs) the price
of the cometa though.

They are still labeled cometa btw, I picked one up a couple weeks ago for like $40. It arrived today. Seems like the same quality as earlier cometas. I haven’t broken it down yet.

Where are you getting your Cometa Specs?

From what they were to supposed to do or from what they actually in reality did do?

Oh I don’t doubt they are exactly the same…… Banggood just waited for the “ruckus” to die down a bit.

I’ll have to break both of mine out again and do some testing…. I do not remember my Z1’s being behind the Cometa at all.
Nothing like you are saying anyway…….

Percentages were roughly approximated, but this is what they actually do based on my measurements.

52kcd vs 152kcd (174kcd with braided springs)
891lm vs 1305lm
$92 ($53+ $9 ship, $20 led/driver,$10 lit tailcap) vs $42

Part costs are roughly estimated. Newer Z1’s might be a bit better now if they used higher bins, mine is quite old.

I have the first edition of the Cometa its still going and i have not fixed any of the issues on it. I dont use it much its just not my sort of light.

I run a 18650 in mine and the disk that covers the LED is anodized and no insulation ring under it. I can see a few marks where the LED wires are rubbing but the anodizing is still in place.

The Brinyte/Odepro is years ahead of the Cometa in terms of build quality and design. Output is not that far behind the B158 does well it looks like a great modding light. I will mod mine soon maybe even today if i get a chance.

The Cometa does under perform to what the specs say at least mine does. I still have not bought a flashlight by said company or reviewed a light by them this really made me angry what they did i have sworn of them! I am a brand loyal person if they do right by me. I do not so much blame the organizers its more the manufacturer cutting corners.

I never bothered with the refund because mine worked even if it was a flop light plus to much negativity in the threads relating to the Cometa. We all got out okay i guess its a lesson learn about say company and how much they really think we are worth as customers!

I got 3 Cometa”s.
One was DOA & had a badly damaged lens.
One turned on in Turbo & would not change modes, just worked in Turbo & had a damaged lens.
One worked but had a badly damaged lens & air bubbles & bits of dirt in the lens glass itself.
All had extremely loose zoom threads, no insulating disc & thinner LED wires than expected.
The one that was stuck in high turned out to have a short.
I measured the 2 that worked at around 980 lumens in Turbo.
I made insulating discs myself from some thin plastic sheet I had, replaced the 24 AWG led wires for 20 AWG ones (which is what we were expecting), did spring bypasses with 16 AWG silicon wire, replaced the lenses with Jaxman Z1 lenses & replaced the non fitting lens O rings with one that actually fitted & put O rings in the fins to stop the extremely loose zooming threads from rattling & changing zoom position on their own.
This resulted in 2 lights that worked OK, had a better beam & tint & increased the lumens by about 300 to just under the advertised 1,300.
The DOA light is still sat in a drawer not working.
I was pretty unhappy at the time with the Cometa fiasco as it was my first group buy & the light was not what I was led to believe it would be & Banggood & their rep Neal were terrible to deal with.
Looking back now it taught me a lot about the actual workings of a light (prior to this I had really just put cells in a light & the whole reason for buying the Cometa”s was to get an already modded light rather than modding one myself) & it did make me do my first mods so some good came of it as I now have a better understanding & am not afraid to dis-assemble lights to repair or mod them, should I want to.
However I certainly wouldn”t have chosen to be in the position I was put in by choice.
As it was during the Cometa problems Teacher bought me a Jaxman Z1 XHP50 (the 2 x 26650 cell version) which IMO is the light I should have bought in the first place (at the time I had not really heard of Jaxman).
A far superior light in all respects, build quality, output, run time, beam & tint.
It is my “go to” light & has performed flawlessly since arriving.
I must say that with all the problems there were with the Cometa & the bad press surrounding it that I am surprised that Banggood are marketing it again & I would imagine that the lights are exactly the same ones we received a year ago & have just been sat in a warehouse somewhere so will still have the exact same problems.
I certainly would not buy one again knowing what I know about them & knowing what needs to be done to them, IMO, to make them right & would choose a different light as again IMO it is a modding project & there are better lights out there to do that to.
Just all my opinion of course & ramble over.

An advantage the Z1 has over Conera and Brinyte is broader flood, in a nice tint and even at that. Zoomies are not all about the little beam zoomed in but nice hotspot-less flood as well IMHO
