Difference between Opus BT-C3400 & BT-C3100 v2.1?

I just bought This to be able to use my Opus in the car.

^

Let us know how it works. I hope it serves you well.

Thanks for the replies!

I am aware of the voltage fluctuations. Nice to know the Opus is not too specific on input voltage. I will only connect it to the socket after engine start or after shutdown.
I had a car plugtip being fried once when running a 12volt coolbox while driving in the car on holiday. But I think it pulled more than 3amp. Could as well be due to a bad connection with high resistance and thus high temperature.

I’ll give it a shot and hopefully the fuse pops before the opus if things work out bad. In that case I guess I can place a new fuse and lower the Opus charging mAh and be fine.

So — can someone sum up?

Is the power supply currently (heh) provided with the Opus charger inadequate?

Assuming need to buy another power supply, how to identify models that are
— best (level 6) energy efficient and
— “green” (low power draw so not wasteful to leave plugged in)

The Eagle (USPS) is about to land……

Well, I just checked USPS Tracking and my package containing power supply from “speaker_joe” (ebay) is out for delivery to my humble abode. :+1:

I place the order about noon on 19 April & it should be in my mailbox about noon today, 21 April.

That is two (2) days from California to NW Alabama!!!
Talk about fast shipping…. speaker_joe must have had it out the door headed to me a couple of minutes after I placed the order.
Wow………

I actually think this may be only the second thing I have ever bought off ebay……… :open_mouth::wink:
But if I can find more guys like him it won’t be the last. :+1:

speaker_joe on ebay gets a 10 star out of a possible 5 star rating from me.
I would highly recommend him to anyone!!!

If you were to read this……. Thank You speaker_joe!!! :+1:

EDIT: This is just such cool, fast shipping I had to post the Tracking as evidence.

I think the power supplies have been inconsistent. Mine was inadequate, so was Teachers, maybe others. What was established in this thread about 2 weeks ago is that Opus chose a DIFFERENT manufacturer for the SMPS in version 2.2 . If you go back several pages you will see that.

I can not answer the efficiency/green question. I am sure Gauss163 would have an answer/info. about that!

My set up is maybe a little different. I have a strip w/ 6 outlets and a switch to turn them on/off. I do not leave ALL of them plugged in because if I did, when I hit the switch they would all come on. I plug them in as I use them.

I hope this helped a little.

One suggestion. If you get an Opus just see what happens before you buy another SMPS. Again, in this thread[~2 weeks ago] I gave a detailed acount of when mine failed and what happened. It ALWAYS happen during the CHARGE/TEST just after transition from discharge to charge.

@ teacher

Let me know how it works w/out the adapter. Mine still works fine as long as I do not move it. I am waiting a few more days for the initial adapter!

My Opus BT-C3100 V2.2 works fine during the full Charge / Test cycle with the original 220V power supply. Tested it with 4 NCR18650 3400mAh and 4 30Qs at 1000mAh charge.

Maybe It’s already written, but does this problem only occur with the V2.1’s?

Yeah hank, Wolfdawg pretty much summed that up and about the need for a new power supply. Mine definitely need one.

As far as the other two questions about green & energy efficient, I have now idea…. gausse would probably be your man for that like Wdog said.
I also do not leave mine plugged in most of the time, it is either on a strip or unplugged when not in use.

Hope this helps………

@ wolfdog ………… I can’t do that, you never answered my PM!!!
I wanted to see if you happened to know the two guys I spoke of….

I’ll check it out when I get home and get it out of the mailbox…… I’ll try to let you know later tonight. :+1:

Yeah I got a tracking number on the adapters but it will be a few days on them at the least.

But the power supply from speaker_joe got here lightening fast!!!
Thanks again for finding that, as well as the link to it.

What is the brand name on your power supply??

No it is with the v2.2 mostly I think. That is what mine & wolfdog’s are.

Well I’m glad I brought this issue up a couple weeks ago with my unit. Looks like everything is solved now. I may get a new power supply eventually. But it doesn’t happen enough to really ve a problem at this point. Just occasionally.

Sorry for being late to this discussion… I may have missed this, but what is the brand/model number of the problematic power supply?

I have an Opus BT-C2400 (so not the 3100 discussed in this thread) that is v2.2, and came with power supply model KYT120100BV-09. Was just wondering if C3100/3400 v2.2 use the same one or different…

See post #150 and #152

  1. is My 2.2 SMPS POST #152 IS 2.1 SMPS which did not seem to have a problem. Opus CHANGED manufacturers of the SMPS which seems to be what caused the problem.

We would have to find someone who has the 3400 to determine that.

I have a 3400 —It was determined mine had the better PS—- the crazy think is I have a 3100 with the rounded corner crappy PS — when I was at the camp this week I did a charge/ test on some cells —worked perfectly

On another note—I went digging through my treasures (my wife says my junk)—I found two laptop PS —- 1 Liteon 12v 5.5a
and another IBM 14v 3.5a —-both barely heat up at all during testing

Was your charge/test for your crappy 3100 w/ 4 X 18650 3400mAh @1 amp?

Does the Lite-on look like mine?!!! Same specs!

I tested cells I had on hand —not a quad of the same battery—but 4 cells charge /test @ 1amp
The LiteOn I found looks similar to that one—-I would imagine mine is quite a bit older—I think it came from an EMachine laptop I junked several years ago

So, googling, I find there’s an Opus C3400 v3.1 version for sale out there,
https://dc-workshop.com/opencart/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=50

and a couple of suggestions of a v3.2 (Russian language)

Has anyone found a list of the Opus charger products and specifications, to know what the different model and version numbers mean?

I wonder if they all come with the same iffy power supply.

From that “dc-workshop” review page, the spec includes

adatper [sic]

If you look at the two different models—you can see in the pictures the 3400 has a more square PS (Good One)
the 3100 has a more rounded PS (Bad One)

How soon we forget…….

3.1

-The 3.1 discharges to 3.1v instead of 2.8v. Here is the dealer answer to my question on Ebay:

New message from: rdana Top Rated Seller(31,011TurquoiseShooting Star)
Hi Capolini,
Yes, you are right. The discharge cut off was changed to 3.1V because most protect circuits are set at about 2.8V. So the charger could cause some cells to trip protect and the charger was getting the blame. There is no real industry standard for discharge cut off of Li-ion cells during test. 3.1V is a voltage used by many but some use 3.0V or even 2.8V. The C3400 will stay at 3.1V. I do not know what Opus will do with the C3100 V2.2. Many times they make the same change that I ask for in my chargers, but not always. Since the C3400 is manufactured only for me I will be keeping it at 3.1V. I wish that I could make the voltage selectable by the user but that may be some time off.
Thanks,
Robert

Notice the SAME guy[and only one who sells 3.1] as your link!

- It has already been established that the 2.1 and 2.2 versions use Different SMPS from different manufacturers. I mentioned this in an earlier post and provided info. as where to find it.

- I have no idea what SMPS the 3.1 uses.
