Talk about future projects and donation topic

Here is one.

fund news:

Change:
From:
4 only for progress in projects that are meant to lead to a real flashlight for all to buy.
To:
4a primarily for progress in projects that are meant to lead to a real flashlight for all to buy.
4b the funds are growing so fast, a part also for support of driver developers for down the road these projects can be used in BLF specials

Reason, we do not know what will be used in BLF specials and even Narsil and Bistro started smaller.
Though all developers that are doing their work open source seem happy in doing so, financial rewards or a little donation are no motivations for them. The big projects can get so much attention it seems nice to give others a small token of BLF appreciation making them able to do a Oshpark order or use it for tools or something, knowing they are seen and speeding things up as among others the Kronos projects and Q8 have sped things up too.

A quote from the Q8 topic:

NEW FUNDS SPENDING
A round of BLF tech developer support, as token of appreciation and hopefully speed tech development up even more.
$30.30 (received $30) Toykeeper for example: trunk : Code : Flashlight Firmware Repository
$30.30 (received $30) Tom E for example: Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light - #2 by The_Miller
$30.30 (received $30) DavidEF for example : Another little driver that won't be much use to most of you guys
$30.30 (received $30) Texas_Ace for example: Texas Avenger "TA" Driver series - Triple channel + Bistro or Narsil + Clicky or E-switch - The Ultimate open source driver!
$30.15 (received $30) Mike C for example: Mike C drivers: v8 series, ATtiny1634 based.
(More tech developers were contacted, not all reacted, not all accepted, so the token of BF appreciation was bigger for these 5.)

Thanks for the donation. I’ll use it to build a couple of drivers for a GAW when I’m finally satisfied with the design.

:+1: thank you for creating BLF tech.
You guys are the core why manufacturers take us serious as a group with real information and input and not just a forum of consumers.
It is the likes of you that are making it possible for people like me to dare ask manufacturers to look at an idea and thus making BLF specials possible, not to mention the coolness of what gets done with super firmware, lighted tailcaps and what not
So thank you again!
Pretty cool you wanna do a GAW! do people who donated to the funds and enter an extra chance?

Nice Mike. You receive a donation for work carried out that you will do more work and donate it away.

That’s not a bad idea at all. I’ll figure something out.

It’s actually The Miller’s idea. I tried to decline the donation but was talked out of it. Doing a GAW was the perfect solution

So Miller talked you into giving your donation away. I’ll have a few words with him for you and give him a good piece of my mind. He wont be doing that again. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the donation, The Miller! :money_mouth_face:

Mike C, I didn’t think I deserved to be on the list of recipients, but you sure do. Your work around here is undervalued, IMHO. Nobody talks much about your contributions, but IIRC you’re actually the guy responsible for a lot of the coolest ideas, like 3+ channel drivers for better efficiency. It’s cool you’re going to “give back” your donation by building drivers and doing a giveaway. It reminds me of Old Lumens in a way. He had received lots of flashlights from manufacturers for reviewing over the years, and he never kept them, but always did a giveaway here.

Also, I want to take the time to say thanks to everybody that donated. I hope you all feel good about the decision The Miller made here. I’ll try to make sure whatever I do is a push forward for BLF somehow. I’ve learned so much in my time at BLF, that I can’t possibly pay back for the knowledge I’ve gained. I wouldn’t even be doing these kinds of mods, or designing my own boards, if it weren’t for the inspiration and encouragement of my fellow BLF’ers.

I’ve already got a GAW going right now (gonna end today). So, in an effort to “give back” my donation, I think I’ll try designing another crazy, cool, or niche driver board. My reasoning is that it’s the guys on the fringe, making the niche items, that push most crafts forward in life. So maybe I’ll find another nifty host and make a driver for it. Then, if the build goes to plan, I’ll do a GAW of the modded light. The donation money will help me buy the board from OSH Park and the components to populate it, and maybe the host to put it in. I don’t know when I’ll get all this accomplished. Perhaps it will be done in time for my 5000 post GAW!

Hmm. Sounds like Miller has been at you also David. I’ll sort him out, dont you worry about that.

What you said above was very nice and Its members here like yourselves that make this place pretty dam good. Thanks guys. :+1:

Yeah, that scoundrel! I hope you work him over real good! :smiling_imp:

Is this a single emitter? How to send funds for the GREAT BLF GT project?

Well to get a “Q” it needs 4 emitters

If you donate and write GT in the note with your username t will be allocated to that project.

How can I send my donation for the "mighty" BLF GT?

You PayPal and write for GT in the note with your username and the donation will be allocated to the GT project.

Thanks for the donation here as well. if we can come up with a good design for a Q8 lantern I could get it 3D printed for testing.

For the Q16, the biggest issue here will be heat shedding. It will need a massive heat sink.

With 4x xhp50.2 or 70.2’s it should easily surpass 15k lumens, with xhp70.2’s it could get close to 20k or more.

The problem is that it would also be pushing upwards of 200-300W worth of power, which is going to get REALLY hot. So figure it will need to be quite large indeed to reach that level.

Honestly Djozz’s spotlight idea that was tossed around for the GT at first would be ideal for this, it would allow for an active heatsink (aka a fan) and could actually handle that king of power.

Although it would most certainty not be considered “cheap” by BLF standards even if it was the best bang for the buck around.

Honestly, if something, whatever it ends up being; is the “best bang for the buck”…. “BLF standards” may have to possibly change a bit.

Many times quality and dirt cheap do not go hand in hand.
Sure, bargain for the absolute best price that can be achieved and then that is what it is. :+1:

IMHO anyway… & I am far from being a monetarily rich man in saying that.

Liquid cooling for the Q16.

+1 for the latern ( do anybody know where to buy the solarforce? Only to have it in my hands and play around…)
