Hi all, I received a response from Thrunite when I told them about the impossibility of complete turning off the TN42. Despite the fact that the glow turned almost invisible after resolder one of the wires from the switch they send me the following pic to fix the problem. I want to share with all of you to have your opinion. I havent do anything yet.
Thrunite is telling customers to destroy a component on the driver using pliers to fix a standby drain issue? Did I read this right? I could swear that was just black tea I was drinking, not hard drugs.
I feel bad for you. It is NOT your responsibility to fix a defect. I would get very direct and tough w/ them as possible, being polite of course.
Somehow Thrunite or HKE[?] where you got it, is RESPONSIBLE for repair or replacement at their expense.
When my TN32 Emitter fried after just 5 days and I posted pictures on CPF,Guess who was the Second to respond? David, the owner of Thrunite! He was concerned about his reputation and being that I bought it from Illumn in the states where I live, there was no problem,I had a new light in 3 days!
But first I would check the traces around that 125 sense resistor in between those 2 what look to be 7135’s and see if there is any solder or splatter crossing over and touching one of them 7135’s?
Could be a bad resistor too?
I just took 2 brand new out of the box TN42’s and pulled the driver cap off each, and from what I seen with a 10X magnifying glass was a lot of splatter from when they soldered the Driver bypass spring and the Red Jumper wire!
Underneath the Brass contact button you will find a bypassed driver spring. Then just like the Photo’s show a Red 22-20awg jumper wire with a heavy solder connection on one side. Suspect that’s where the splatter came from. I usually shit can the brass button for less resistance/ driver efficiency any way!!
I’m new to lights and I’ve purchased a bunch of Thrunite lights this year. I just received #6 today.
I had a small issue with an accessory part on one light and they were quick to address it. I’m impressed.
So what happens when your an amateur like me and screw it up more? Who is responsible then? I bet you I would be. They would not want it back after that!
Someone like me[no modding skills] I would NOT even touch it,like I said it is the manufacturers responsibility. Plain and simple.
Hi all, the last answer received states that it si a bug that they will fix in the next mass solution. It seems that they have received more htan one complain about this issue and figured out how to fix it. And yes, as Teacher said, shipping or getting a product from overseas is really problematic and time consuming issue here. I guess that I will desolder it or living with it unscrewing the tube when not in use.
It’s been pretty common here on BLF for folks to modify a flashlight, whether it needed it or not. We are not merely budget minded at the onset of a purchase, but also when it comes to keeping one running or making sure it’s running optimally. Long story short, BLF takes it upon itself to do what needs to be done, from an emitter upgrade to a complete new driver design, we pick up the mantle for getting it done, simple as that.
How else do you account for so much of CPF’s membership joining here?
Edit: It would be amiss of me to not say that I’m proud to have been a part of all this carrying of the torch, the last few years. (as it were…) Thank you sb56637 for making and keeping it possible. :+1:
I would say there is a small percentage of CPF members on here compared to BLF members and vice versa.
I have no idea what the numbers would be. Under 5% for both would be my guess.
The difference that has been brought up on here is that CPF gets bashed a helluva lot more on here than BLF gets bashed on CPF.In fact BLF is rarely mentioned or bashed on CPF.
I have been a member of both for closing in on 4 years[8.5.2013 CPF] [10.13.2013 BLF] :sunglasses:
