Upcoming Astrolux S42 18350/18650 quad w side button and usb charging

I’m waiting for the version with the copper head. From the specs this is aluminum head to tail.

Since the Manker E14/Astrolux S41 I have been waiting for the version with aluminium head and now here it is!
The copper head version, however nice, is too heavy for pocket carry, and my hope and expectation is that using aluminium does not make the performance less.

I too am glad to see an all aluminum version. The copper head was nice indeed but quite heavy for EDC. However, it may not be as efficient in terms of heat dissipation, hence i favored high CRI rather then high output.

BTW: the usb port is on the side with a rubber cover. Although it may be considered as a weak point i like it better that way. Imagine if you had to open up your phone each time you need to charge it… But that’s just my opinion.

Good point! Hmm i might order one as well! I wonder which 219c bin that are putting into this light…

Button seems to protrude a lot, with no lockout function I’m waiting to see if it has a high chance of accidental activation. Also curious about parasitic drain on this.

I already have a Manker E14 with 219C (and 3 S41:s with 219B), so I think I will skip the S42.

Neither built in charging nor eSwitch is something that tickles my fancy much and no copper head is a downgrade in my world.

The S42 has an anodised battery tube and anodised inside of the tail cap, so that will provide mechanical lockout at least

I have 2 S41S and one S41. One of them with XP-L HI. I think I’ll reflow XP-L HI for the S42 and swap the 219c into the S41S. At this point it looks like it’s not possible to change the driver for S42. I just hope the head is not glued!

That is a neat little light. The price is tempting right now too. Just really do not like what they did to the tailcap… I wonder how easy it would be to remove that threaded part and get a magnet in there.

That or convince BG to sell the MH10 tailcap. Looks like that would be a direct “lego” replacement.

It seems small powerful multi emitter lights are all the rage nowadays.

As hot as the S41 gets, whats this going to be like? Without having seen it, don’t think the usb port or an e-switch is a good idea on this light. As cute as it is, looks like an accident waiting to happen. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Hmmm…
yeah, it’ll get hot for sure, but the whole body is aluminum, so it probably will behave better than the S41S (stainless steel).

…but i wonder what the marketing strategy is.
Will they release the version with the copper ‘engine block’ later?

Anybody have an idea about the 219C they use? 5000K, but is it high CRI?

It looks like a screw in

M4d M4X has a group buy going on now, for a good price.

Is it compatible with the S1 18650 body? Compact size is alluring, but I am more of a runtime guy.

Also m4dm4x was talking about those points. Do you mean the points you get by buying other products, or there is something better?

EDIT: ok, I’ve just tried: I’ve seen I get 1 point for every usd of purchase, then I can redeem those points getting 0,01 usd discount per each. In other words, points equals 1% discount… you had a 5 eur discount, but I doubt you bought stuff for 500 eur in your last orders… what am I missing? :s

At the end of the S42 description there is a link to the 18650 tube which is labeled “Astrolux S41/Astrolux S1/BLF A6 LED Flashlight 18650 Body Tube”.

I’m not sure exactly how those BG points work… it’s a bit complicated.

Here is what i understand: on one hand you get points from orders but also for reviews, photos, videos and possibly comments on the forum (or maybe that’s GearBest), on the other hand the points you have accumulated have more or less value depending on your VIP status which itself depends on how long you have been a customer, how often you place orders and how much… As i’m a VIP4 i guess my points have produced a better rebate then what a new customer would get.

In some situations you cannot use your points. That’s sometime the case for items on flash sales for instance.

As for spending 500 euro on BG… well… :person_facepalming:

On the BangGood page is a link:

I would say that it may be a crap-shoot as to whether any 18650 body already in your possession fits, there were some incompatibilities early on. I would hope that they have nailed things down and are making things fully lego-able by now.

I’d think they’d do that to lower costs. Identical threads means identical setup and inspection for that portion of the light, which should result in greater profit.

Just pre-ordered one w/219C's. Looks pretty good. Can't wait to get my hands on the survival hammer - I don't have one and need it.

Wut?
