Clear anodized Convoy S2+ (switch poll closed) now just discussion

The switch will be black?

OFF TOPIC: Oh frick yes, the regular S2 is on sale again!

Yes, that is what was picked in the poll. Black stainless steel.

Boy oh boy. :person_facepalming:
Where to begin… I guess there was a mix-up.

They shouldn’t have gone to BG yet but since they did it looks like Simon is listing them too.

As far as I know the “official version” with the Biscotti driver and stainless switch is still in the works. I’ll post more details when I get them from Simon.

I don’t see that the black was picked

Thank you for clarifying J-dub!

So the official version is not ready?

That is so bizarre, I swear I’d seen “black SS switch”. My bad. :person_facepalming:

Not your bad at all. You probably did read that and it may have even been me who said it. That was the original plan. Several attempts at getting the coating right went wrong. It proved to be a real pain. I thought these clear ones weren’t going to be sold with the black switch because the black coating wasn’t tough enough. These may be just fine though. I believe the black steel switch is PVD coated but I don’t think it’s stainless. The coating is being improved though because we’re using the black metal switch on the Desert Tam S2+. I won’t know exactly what these are until I get clarification from Simon. Stay tuned…

I’m not in the loop, but last I heard (quite a while ago), Simon was trying to figure out why biscotti didn’t work right with a lighted tailcap. So I passed along some information about how the tail works, the offtime measurement, and the need for a bleeder resistor, and … hopefully it helped.

But until there’s confirmation one way or another, be aware that there’s a chance it could have an old 3/5-mode driver. And it may or may not have a lighted tail, which is honestly kind of pointless with the black steel switch blocking 99% of the light. So, there may be good reasons to wait for clarification from Simon.

With 1 KOhm bleeder I have no problems with Biscotti using lighted tailcap. I use 10 to 47 KOhm resistors in tailcap before the leds.

belatedly, I prefer rubber tailcap and sometimes lighted

I think clear rubber boot would look good on this. I would not buy with the black personally but I respect that some people like it.

Any word on clear hosts with the official stainless button?

No word on hosts at this time. I would change this from a poll to a thread if it were possible but as far as I know it isn’t. Anyone who knows otherwise please let me know…

Are the lights coming officially with a stainless steel switch?

Not yet but in the next batch, as far as I know…yes.

J-Dub can you kindly ask Simon to sell stainless buttons separately? I got my Clear S2+ today. And it has the black button but started to fade and seeing out the metal color under black coating after half day of use. I better like it with the matching silver button.
Thank you!

I’ve made the request and I’ll keep you posted. Some of this first run of the black switches has the issue you described with the black coating being either too thin or not cured properly. Not all but at least some will have this issue unfortunately. The black metal switch should be much improved in the next run which will be used on the desert tan model. If you bought this one from Simon’s store you can send him a message there for your one light if you want a quicker fix but I’m doing what I can to resolve the bigger picture issue. Hopefully all will be well with the next run. Thanks for letting me know.

Thank you for your help. This piece is from banggood but I ordered one from Simon directly for a friend but that one doesn’t arrived yet. We will see how that one keep the black coat. But for me is the best option to buy stainless even if it costs 1-2$ and replace in my light and in the other one too.

Wow, that’s fast… :frowning:
Do you eat a lot of garlic?

Maybe you can use some solvent or lye or something to remove all of the black coating?
