Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

You may want to have a look at this app:

It seems pretty good at logging and charting anything your phone can sense.

It was mentioned already, but zakwilsonā€™s ā€œceilingbounceā€ app is designed for this.

man, itā€™s not easy.

Kennedy said something about that when he announced that America was going to the moon

Great to see you here Barry, it certainly is not easy but weā€™re all doing our best and I think a good job is being done!

I thought Barry meant the app was not easy to use.

Doing great Barry!

4 of 7 samples in
I can confirm on mine that
The outside is as designed and planned
Nice addition of CE ROHS ā€œdonā€™t toss in binā€ marking (the CE logo needs a little more space between the C and E)

Lovely to look at the depth of the fins and see them get deeper near the LEDs

Tripod mount works fine , even with a huge tripod plate.

Threads are very smooth, there was no grease, and that gave me the opportunity to feel how smooth the threads are, very nice.

Switch is precise and good.

Driver bottom looks very nice, with ā€œQ8ā€ - plastic ring - nice brass ring - plastic ring with space for screws in outer ring
Elegant and the Q8 vias line up beautiful.
This is great for even things not looked at normally are done so nice!

I havenā€™t taken it apart yet, first gonna test the modegroup settings in Narsil

On four protected Panasonic low drain cells it already has an impressive output
It already is brighter then the Nitecore TM06S , Convoy L6 and Thorfire S70 and S70S that were my brightest lights before yesterday
If course the XHP70 lights with big reflector throw further but the area the Q8 lights up is awesome.
The tint is pleasant without annoying shifts to green or blue

It handles heat fine but will have to rely on others testing with higher drain cells

The LEDs are not 100% aligned but this is not a big deal, even on the $100-$150 Nitecore TM06S the LEDs are not 100% aligned and on both Q8 as TM06S the beam does not suffer from it, it is so little and by how the quad reflector and quad LEDs work it does not show even when whitewall hunting.

Narsil is amazing
And Tjirfires side switch works very good with it.
Ramping and let go makes the side switch blink and tell if the 7135 only or also the FET is used on the level chosen. 7135 only is remarkable bright, much brighter then I expected from reading the numbers
Quick access to voltage check is useful and nice

So much can be setup, amazing, from moon level, how side switch behaves, thermal/timed stepdown to blinkies

There is a bug in Narsil so Tom has to do some code writing and for production the updated Narsil must be used.

There were no spare o rings in the box and the simple manual as provided was not there.
Maybe add a switch cover too?

Other then this and pending teardown and measuring I say with the following things to be done:
1 updated Narsil
2 CE marking little more space between C and E
3 spare o rings in box
4 manual in box
I can give the GO on the Q8

So there Barry, 1 out of 7, letā€™s see what the others have to say

My copy of prototype #3 looks and behaves exactly like Millerā€™s and Tomā€™s it seems, so I agree on Millerā€™s observations. These prototypes are consistently good.

About the Narsil UI that I have not used before: I have just played with the default ramping UI. The ramping is fast, very precise, and intuitive, I have not for a moment wanted to discover the other UI options.
It is very well thought out that from off a ā€˜clickā€™ gets you on the memorised output setting, while from off a ā€˜holdā€™ starts ramping up from the lowest level. In practise that is really intuitive.
The ramping is fast enough that for maximum brightness I simply ramp up, I do not feel the need for a short-cut to max.

yeah, it also feels great to see it get brighter and brighter, much more fun then double click and have it on turbo right away

MARK list updated

Thanks man!

That golden Q8 inside that golden ring is a very nice touch! :+1:

yeah agree, it is cool to have nice details even in places not normally looked at

Drumroll please!! The tension is mounting and across the world flashaholics are starting to feel their blood pressure riseā€¦ so close so close we are about to witness an historic event in the flashlight world!

heheh

Are we still at the $40 price point, or has it shifted?

I'm modding code, making bug fixes as we type . No pressure...

Absolutely Imperative that no changes are made between approval and production!

If a component, any component, is running in short supply before end of production run then it must be replaced with the exact same component even if that means halting productionā€¦ no substitutions after sample approval!

This is Critical to the production and satisfaction of buyers.

Looking fantastic from the reports that are in, just need the internal probing from Tom and the other techsā€¦

Make a the Q8 flash BLF instead of SOS, i am sure rescue people will understand BLF morsed with no stopping.

ā€¦-.

Put me on the list for one flashlight
Thank you

Yes Dale

Oh liking that morse easter egg, yet who knows morse nowadays, does the counting on a strobe

Think there are real issues to deal with first
And good to ee Tom s working on it, so nice! thanks

Yes will update list later
And yes $40 is the gaol and is not changed

True morse are dead, even among radio enthusiasts, they might still be using morse code but often you will find the morse key being replaced by a USB cable, and so the morse code are really just the transmission protocol of a chat program.

And while some people still know the two letters S & O in morse code, then it is really a dead language.
But we flasaholics might use it to discreet pick one and other out in a crowd.

I think even milliary use of light as a signal are just a beacon flash on a life raft of other flotation devise, the 2 letters donā€™t get used much in this day and age.

And i have to admit i would prefer a EPIRB over a flashing light any day, maybe we will see that in a flashlight soon ?

Unscrew a cap, press the little button behind it, and EPIRB transmitter in flashlight go live :sunglasses:
