Did you watch the Eurovision Song Contest 2017?

I don’t watch much tv but that’s a one time a year show i like to catch. I skipped a few decades since the 70’s and caught up three years ago. Woa! Things have changed for sure!

Apart from the performance and songs, i’m quite baffled by those ‘digital stage’ onto which they can ‘print’ anything from sun sets, rolling clouds, fire works, animated art or 3D effects… the sky’s the limit. Carefully synced with the camera position they can even produce some 3D illusions… Amazing. Combined with ‘traditional’ lights, fog and real fire works… if not lasers… That’s quite a fabulous stage indeed! Damn i forgot that’s only the beginning of 21th century.

I’d be curious to know what leds they use, how many, how they get them all working… and how many watts the whole thing sucks!

BTW: i’m glad about this year’s winner - Salvador Sobral from Portugal. He did not use one bit of all the above mentioned stage wizardry. He just sang a song with his heart and guts, and won the contest. Back to the roots!

I agree, so i didn’t watch. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not worth watching without Mr Wogan. RIP

Haven’t missed Eurovision for decades. The yodelling rap from Romania was great!

LOL for the unbiased quote!

Australia is europe

EUROvision Wtf???

It’s the other Europe, not the big one.

It’s a song contest in Europe… who cares.

Australia was a guest a few years ago and apparently have been allowed in since. This kind of music is extremely popular in Australia since the days of Abba.

My and my girlfriend usually have an attempt at watching if we are home. We can usually only stand about three songs before having to change the channel. This year was no exception.

  1. Australia’s SBS broadcaster is a member of the European Broadcasting Union, the organisation that controls Eurovision.
  2. Australia’s population is heavily of European descent and origin.
  3. Australia has broadcast Eurovision for 34 years.
  4. Australia has had multiple singers representing other countries.
  5. There are and have been other non-European countries in Eurovision.
    Enough reasons?

Heheh didn’t watch
Laughed by “De Volkskrant” that first reviewed the winner bad, yet when newspapers in other countries spoke highly changed the review and praised things they before talked down

Did not watch. And I think that now it is not relevant for the warring Ukraine. Officials again plundered half of the budget …

I heard the ass has won.

Yeah, loved it too. Ilinca Băcilă is quite amazing - and beautiful. She’s been yodelling since she was a child. She’s only 19 now. They made it #7.
One of my favs was Hungary with Joci Pápai. Ethnic with a touch of rap too. He ranked #8.

It was on in the background while I surfed on my iPad. So much money spent and all the music so bad and especially the winner. France should have won, not that I care much though.

Have watched. Music was awfull (as usual). Best act was out of the competition and (as far as I know) was “covered” by advertising on some local (nation) tv channels. Here it is:

Watched it with my wife, (i was BLF-ing on my phone while i sat next to her) some acts were hilarious

Miller, maybe a stupid question, but you read De Volkskrant? youre not native French?

Heheh I am Dutch, living here 3 years.
We watch NOS every morning during breakfast and I read several Dutch sites including the beyond funny Geenstijl, they are always keen on showing f#*kups from “dode boom” news outlets

Haha, good to know! I like their cynism as well, visit them almost every day.
Fijne avond!

Bedankt jij ook!
