Im hoping I can get some opinions on this from any of you that may have experience with these two emitters. I picked up a surefire g2x pro 200 lumen model (cree xpe). I plan on re-flowing one of the two aforementioned emitters onto the existing PCB. I estimate the stock driver circuit delivers approximately 1amp to the LED on high. I know I am probably splitting hairs in terms of a difference between the two in terms of output and efficiency. I have both emitters and cannot decide which one I should use. Suggestions?
Thanks Lexel. I want a decent compromise between throw and spill however more emphasis on throw. Will the xpg2 still offer slightly better throw over the xpl-hi? Both are 5000K temp which is my preferance in a duty light which this will be.
a little confusing. From the data sheet, they are close. One thing does not seem correct in the measured chart is the Vf of XP-G2. It is way higher than other LEDs.
In other words, the power consumption is higher when the Vf is higher (while the current is the same as in this case at 1 Ampere with same lumen output).
Power is Voltage x Current. P = U x I
Thank you all for the input. Im decinitely leaning towards the xpl hi due to the better efficiency. Hopefully if time permits I can do the swap in the next few days!
Yes the output is almost exactly the same.
But OP said “output and efficiency” and the XP-L HI has significantly better efficiency, about 15-20%.
So taking into account both output and efficiency, the XP-L HI is the better choice of the two.
The cree comparator says the XPL has a 2% better efficiency compared to input power
Compared to current which is important for linear drivers they are almost identical
The forward voltage of the XPG2 should not be higher than the XPL
