Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

TRIPOD MOUNT USE
Argh, tinypic is making things very hard, several upload attempts, not showing most, these pics came through, some more on tripod mount to be added

Small tripod:

Tripod as handle:

Big tripod with large plate:

nut to attach lanyard:

Yuk, is that spray painted, :confounded: rather have mine Bare Aluminum and no useless flats on the battery tube!!

It would match that cool nifty tripod it’s on!! :+1:

Heheh I don’t see or feel the Q8 ano to be all that different from the expensive Nitecore TM06S.

Q8 with diffuser
the cheapo solution, a plastic drinking cup placed on top of the Q8

The $8.50 solution, liked to in this topic many times:

Note that I thought I had silver spraypaint but it was a very light grey and is not reflective, when I come around to it I’ll buy silver reflective paint to have the big diffuser shine more sideways.

Some soda can lights
Golden SRK - BLF Q8 - Haikelight Trekker- Nitecore TM06S

(note that for the pic of switch pcb I damaged the ring around the switch, so first stage, removing most of the black done but with a flat file, so not finished (for that will be with sandpaper and a little polishing))

Some more pics

Cells in tube, DO NOT MIX CELLS THIS IS FOR SHOWING THE DIFF BETWEEN Pana 3400 protected / GA /30Q bt cells ONLY, ONLY USE MATCHED CELLS!

despite the dust and such I love this pic.

I’m afraid I haven’t been very good about giving feedback on the Q8 prototype. My apologies to the Q8 team. I feel I’ve let you down a bit. :weary:

I haven’t had time to do much testing of anything lately. I did take it into the woods to play a bit though so I can at least share a little commentary. While I didn’t get to take any beamshots because there just wasn’t time, I took the Q8 and L6 (and about 30 other lights) up to my mom’s place the weekend before last. I’ll try to describe my experience as best I can. I did some beam testing and comparison to the L6, I just didn’t have time to setup my camera/tripod.

Here’s a satellite shot of my beam testing area.

I was aiming the beam at the wood-line where the valley ends in the left side of the picture. The distance from the deck off the back of the house where I was standing is roughly 865 feet (264 meters). The satellite image is old so the house isn’t there but I did my best to approximate where it is now. The farthest trees in sight were lit up nearly equally with my stock L6 and the Q8 which is quite well.

Keep in mind this is just naked eye observation…

The stock L6 has a bit more throw but not by a huge margin.

The Q8 floods more area with light and has more raw lumen output so the closer light diminishes overall sight distance a bit but it’s a very nice beam pattern particularly outdoors where it counts.

This Q8 is a homerun for sure. My compliments to everyone involved. GREAT job guys! :+1:

Nice J-Dub74!

Nice some pics show the fins getting deeper closer to the integrated shelf, sweet

Nice pictures Miller. Just looking at your lamp pictures and I noticed you live in a cave. Say hi to Fred and Wilma. :stuck_out_tongue:

Interested, one piece.

BTW, The heck with the cave! (I would have expected torches in sconces or braziers burning wood)

I’m extremely impressed that J-dub74 has a satellite!

The Miller, I totally forgot about the threads. I like that D-ring idea for slung use. I had been thinking, “OK I’ll have these Q8s, but they may never take the place of the L6.”. The Q8 has a chance now.

Thanks for the pics! It must be very special to finally hold and use this light after more then a year, 7000+ posts, so much time, energy and synergy. That’s a very satisfying achievement!

A couple comments:

My understanding was the Q8 would have the exact same dimension as a good old SRK but it looks a tad smaller on your pictures?

and… please get yourself a digital caliper. LOL! :person_facepalming:

Excellent team job! Keep up the good work! :+1:

Great to see the tripod photos. My Q8 will probably spend quite a bit of time mounted on a tripod.

Yes stupid of me, bumming about rain, while there was so much to take pics of inside.

LOL, BrianK, thanks for editing the Q4 talk out, here you can discuss it: Talk about future projects and donation topic - #2 by The_Miller

I do have a digital stainless steel caliper, bought this $0.50 one for measuring glass and such, no scratches
The lower part of the Q8 bezel is 0.11mm lower then this golden SRK
The top part of the SRK bezel is 0.78mm higher
So it is not 100% the same (and I don’t even know if all the SRKs are the same) but pretty close.

Made beamshots, with an L6 too!
working on small text for what they are and uploading, so brb

Yeah, there was something strange going on there. I got deposited somewhere where that discussion was happening (thought it was here since that was my intended destination), responded to it and found that I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. Maybe it was an artifact of the maintenance? So I deleted the post and moved on.

I’ve never been on acid (LSD), but I suspect it was much like that. Or so it felt on my end. Very strange.

Nice beamshots! :+1:

Thanks, sure Dale can do this much better (lol a lot of BLFers can do this a lot better) but t gives an idea.
If it wasn’t for your previous post I would not have taken the L6 and only used soda can lights, but the tint of my L6 is close and indeed interesting to see. :person_facepalming: for having the L6 in frame

Well pics and texts can’t describe the feeling of that smooth ramping from moon to sun
As you can see the Q8 has a nice flood, good reach and nice tint.
The UI makes it really special besides seeing it come to life (indeed very special for us)
People not into flashlights still love playing with that click hold, click hold interface
