WELCOME to BLF!

+1 & welcome to BLF……. :+1:

O, man. Actually you need GenSet with AMF panel and ATS.
Better diesel one, not gasoline.
OK, it does not change flashlight need.
My suggestion is:
18650 battery;
Neutral or warm white;
build USB charger;
tailcap swhich;
pocket friendly.
Eagle Eye X2R,X5R,Thrunite TN12, TC12 are some options.

Welcome, bright!

As far as a M@g style torch goes, if you’re willing to have some dosh invested, you really, REALLY can’t go wrong with the Convoy L6. As far as headlamps go, you could get the aforementioned Thrunite TH20, or if you demand more power or efficiency, get a Convoy S2 (fits most 18650s, protected or not unlike the S2+, and has a good general purpose beam) and Convoy’s head strap.

If you need a thrower, take a look at the Convoy C8 and L2. I think the L2 will suit you better since you’re on the sticks as you mentioned; the C8 doesn’t go farther than 200m unless it’s modded into a pocket rocket, and that’s more expensive.

The Thorfire S70S would be great for watching the property. I don’t know if you are allowed to shoot Coyotes or not, but if you get a C8 with an XPL-HI emitter in it, you could mount it on a rifle real easy and pick off those coyotes. If you really wanted to get serious about shooting coyotes Maxtoch makes the 2X Shooter in Red . Red doesn’t seem to scare off coyotes like a white light might

Don't you love it when a newbie comes and receives 30 different suggestions (that are all decent)?

You are willing to learn about lithium-ion cells safety, that's great because most of the powerful lights use them (either 18650 or larger 26650). Your budget is more than necessary to buy a quality light, charger and spare batteries. If you want a larger handheld light then you will be happy with Thorfire S70S or Convoy L6 previously mentioned, they're similar so whichever you like.

The C8 from Thorfire or Convoy are much smaller but still extremely bright compared to any old light you might have, however the beam is tightly focused (good range outside, can be annoying indoors).

Headlamps are useful to keep both hands free but then your wife may want a club to hold onto :)

Go for the Boruit. I got a few of them, they’re cheap, they’re handy, and even with the lowest level of light they’re perfectly usable, and will run almost forever. Even at its highest it’ll run on a fully-charged cell for probably 3hrs. Pull off the elastic thingies, and you can hand-hold it just fine.

Flood? Convoy S2+. The 4C tint-bin is nice.

Thrower? Convoy C8 w/ XP-L HI.

Überthrower? Convoy L2.

Nice EDCs? Thorfire VG10, Zanflare F1.

Small/Keychain? Jetbeam Jet-I. Takes an AA.

Smaller? Astrolux A01, ODEPro EA01, BLF348. All take AAAs.

Slightly bigger 26650 lights w/ more runtime? UltraFire DV-S9 and F13.

Power outages? Farm? Coyotes? In London? Not London England, surely?

He says “Coyotes”, but we know what he is really talking about.

Ah, so he lives in South London then. :wink:

Wouldn’t have thought so myself until he mentioned spending some pounds.

My money is still on a 3D cell MagLite ML300LX using 3xAA to D adapters for eneloops or just alkaline D cells. Will be bright enough for 95% of things, durable, use common cells, and double as a club in a pinch.

I love super bright lithium stuff as much as anyone, but for an emergency light you just can’t beat something that uses cells you can find at your local supermarket.

Yeah, the more that I think about it, the Maglite ML300LX with adapters or Nitecore EA81 I think are the best options. The EA81 would also qualify as “super bright” for most people. It’s able to sustain ~2000 lumens while having 5 modes including Moon. No need IMO to switch to a lithium if they really only want 1 emergency light.

Another cheaper option is the energizer 6xaa 900 lumen triple for $20 at battery junction. I have one and for $20 can’t beat it. Has three tir optics two for throw one for flood. Works great and would fit the bill. Big enough to be a club and great for emergency. You have high low and strobe. High 900 lumen for 3 hours I believe. Low is 400 lumens. Strobe is hidden have to double click

Do you know how many possible types of emergencies there are??

1 emergency light just won’t cut it. You need 3, 5, dozens

There are many different kinds of emergencies. Each having different requirement for a light.

  • Hurricane visited and lost power for a week…
  • Power is out for an hour and need to check on…
  • Daddy! There is something under my bed… :open_mouth:

I was thinking same thing. :wink:

for emergency indoor lightning a lantern also comes in very handy

Nothing new from me, but having recently re-entered the high performance flashlight world I'll say that I'm both astonished and thrilled by 18650 batteries (and associated lights) and my new Skilhunt H03.

Imo quality lithium batteries are easy to manage and when examined in total are actually cost-competive with alkaline.

Also agree you should likely have several types of lights.

The nitecore Ea81 is great yes, only issue i have with it is recharing 8 cells. Othervise the output is nice and simple ui.
