Convoy C8 - Lighted Tail Switch

Hi All,

Is there a “drop-in” lighted tail switch that will work with the Convoy C8 that I can buy and swap straight in to my C8? Without having to do any soldering, etc. I’d like to have a lighted switch and put either a clear or translucent button cover over it. I recently saw something like this that was intended for Astrolux lights but no idea if it would work in a C8.

If the diameter and switch size is the same no problem

You have to add a bleeder to the driver as well
It also messes up the OTC timing

Just tried it myself. Yes, the “drop in” lighted switch from BangGood will work with a 6*7135AMC driver in a Convoy C8.
Works just like the standard switch. Even the change from 3 to 5 modes works like usual. There is a (small) snag :person_facepalming:

The BangGood switch with 2 led’s on the board (the SS Kronos has a switch with 1 led) is a bit larger than the original board in the Convoy. Because the Convoy retainer ring has a recess (to center the board) the BangGood board won’t fit. And the switch does not work. Trim the diameter of BangGood board by about 0.5mm with a file. Than it fits, and it works.
Remember that you not only need a translucent switch button cover, but also a translucent washer!

PS. No need for a bleeder.

Maybe this will help you. No soldering, only 10 minutes of installation, including drilling. :+1:

Plus a translucent washer. Available at a DIY -store or Home Depot. You drilled 8 holes into the metal washer?

Yes. A plastic/nyilon washer was not available at hand, and the drill worked well :sunglasses:

I suspect one could also use clear epoxy or silicon if one had neither a translucent spacer or drill.

This is great news and glad to hear that I won’t need a bleeder. Thanks for all the info and for putting together the steps on the website too.

For the translucent washer - looks like I’ll need an M8?

The round piece protruding from the Omten switch is 6.9mm. The nylon washers I got from my DIY-store are not metric sized according to the ISO standard (nylon being softer than metal). The package of the rings says its size M8.
The washer is 2.0mm thick. The inner diameter (the hole) of the washer is 8.4mm and the outer diameter is 23.8mm. You need to trim the outer diameter of the washer according to the size of the tailcap. I did that on a bench grinder.

By chance I just tried the same thing. I assume you are talking about this switch board. My finding too was it almost fits(would fit slightly trimmed) the C8 (the new upgraded clear version with white switch cover). While it wasn’t a good fit as is, I managed to experiment without filing the board; I’ll probably use this for another flashlight.

My observation was that this would be OK even with the metal washer if one wanted a very very dim standby light for bedside use as the switch is slightly translucent and/or there is a gap anyway. It’s less than ideal to burn more energy than needed and block the excess light, but at least it would be quick and easy. Obviously my OCD prevents me from using this, but someone might think it’s a good idea and who am I to judge?
