Scratch-built 7x C8 reflector high-output thrower

Thanks for sharing this with us EasyB! :+1:

Flashlights are so much fun to build. I really look forward to the beam shots, and a possible YouTube video of this Beast.

Well done. You are now King :crown: of the C8 combo!

Well, candela scales almost linearly with the number of heads you add to the light…
If one head can do >100kcd then 7 heads will do >700kcd.

Holy smokes! Nicely done!

Maybe you should call it “C56”

Sweet.

Wow what a monster!

That’s pretty cool

Beamshots!!!

Nice build! Like others, I’m looking forward to the beamshots!

Love it. Congrats on the monster.

So cool ! A real monster

You should check output with some 30A batteries , some VTC5 / VTC5A or newer 20700 40 amp batteries .

Glad you guys like it.

As some have pointed out, this light is essentially 7 C8s pointed at the same spot. On average that is 105Kcd per reflector. Better driven (6A per LED), this light could reach 7*150Kcd=1050Kcd. Right now 3 of the LEDs are getting 5A and the other 4 are getting 3.75A. I could rewire the LEDs to work with 3s (2p-2p-3p). I estimate that this would increase output and throw by 12, but increase power consumption by 25.

I’ve got a couple 3-500m beamshot locations scoped out on google maps…

Very interesting build! If you use XP-L HI emitters I think the candela can easily break the 1M mark!

Insane monster build!! :+1:

These are dedomed XPL V6, so already higher luminance than available XPL HI bins.

Wow amazing work, who needs a tn42 when you can have this

Xpl hi only goes up to V3 bin. Xpl v6 throws more when dedomed.

Xpl hi is nice for choosing what tint you prefer and not having to dedome emitters

Yeah, but does it tailstand? :stuck_out_tongue:

My god man, get a grip on it! That is one cool build!

Heh. The beam should be like a TN42 but with 4x the beam area (twice the beam width).

It does tail-stand. I also left room on the tail cap to make a lanyard/shoulder strap hole.

Great build and very BLF

To could also carefully drill 3 holes in the lens around the center reflector and fix the lens with bolds (rubber rings under the heads) in the led base plate.

That’s an interesting idea, thanks.
