Cheap bare 385nm UV LED

Closed for now.
If someone is interested in a few 385nm UV LEDs please let me know. I will have a few left over from this project (http://budgetlightforum.com/node/54645). And if enough people want the LED´s i will buy a few more.
Here is a test from djozz http://budgetlightforum.com/node/43390.
I contacted the seller on aliexpress and he will send me the LEDs bare without the Aluminium PCB. No unsoldering needed.
It has a 35×35 foodprint so copper DTP boards are the way to go if you want to push the LEDs a bit further.
At the moment the price is at 1,25/LED + shipping (worldwide shipping = 1,50€). But i am trying to get a better price without the Aluminium PCBs.
If we take 20 LEDs the price goes down to ~1,05-1,10/ bare LED.

I have to check how much shipping from Germany costs. But if it is too pricey Djozz agreed to be the one who sends out the LEDs. So the max shipping costs are 1,50€ worldwide.

Thats the list for now:
TheOnlyDocc – 6 paid, shipping info: OK
djozz – 3 paid,
DavidEF – 4 paid, shipping info: OK
amplificus – 6 paid, shipping info: OK
gisewhcs – 6 paid, shipping info: OK
alpg88 – 15 paid, shipping info: OK
———————————-
40 LEDs total

Last Update: Leds are on the way to djozz and the Final Price is:
(1€/Led ~ 1,20$) + (1,50€ ~1.80$) added for bubble mailer plus shipping

If you have paid please send me your shipping information so i can make a list for djozz.

@amplificus
I did not have the time to check at the post office to get the price for sending items to the US but on monday i have to go to the post office and then i can ask for the cheapest option.. But djozz told me shipping from NL is one stamp of 1.25 euro worldwide plus a 25 cents envelope. So if sending from Germany is more than that he will send the LED to you. So shipping will be max 1,50€.
And here a light that djozz modded with 3 UV leds. I ordered the light only for the reflector.

No worries, I’m in no hurry. I was interested in building a UV light at some point, I didn’t even research which LED’s are available. If it’s too much hassle getting them out here i can try to source some.

I am waiting with the order untill next week. So it is open but i have to order in 10led steps. I need 6 i think djozz will take a few and then your orders. If we get to order 20 leds the price will be a few cents cheaper.

I think you might as well count me in for at least one, but up to four total, depending how you land with the tens for ordering. In other words, I’m flexible, so you can squeeze me in however it works out for your order quantity.

I also am flexible, if it helps i can get either 1 or 3 if you need to squeeze in, or extend to a minimum

Last call!
Tomorrow i want to order the LED´s. Everyone that want on the list may speak up.
@David Krienke
You send me a PM and i answered. Are you now searching for 365nm LEDs or do you still want the 385nm ones?
If no big changes occur i will order 2 lots=20LEDs.

What is everyone’s primary purpose of using these UV LEDs? For observation of UV reactive surfaces, curing epoxy, …?

For me it has no purpose, it is just the hobby of collecting wavelengths, and for each wavelength I try to make a highest output flashlight Innocent

Dam Jos i did not see your 385nm SKR mod. Nice output!
To bad that a Quad reflector will not fit the Wall-E light. But with 3W+ real 385nm light output it should be good for curing the UV plastic i ordered from ZHANLIDA Online Store. I use some of their glues for month and now i wanted to test the UV plastics they have. Two of the three are on the way.

Update.
Yesterday i asked the seller for a better price because we take 40 leds without the PCB so he do not have to solder them on the boards and can keep the alu boards. A few days ago we arranged a small discount if i take 2 lots /20leds. But the final price i got this morning was more than the price for 2× 2 lots – the discount. It was 1€ less than the normal price with the alu boards. So i want to wait what he has to say to this.
The content of what i finaly asked him is, if its normal that the price/pcs goes up if i order more + saving him time and money (no soldering needed and 40 boards he can keep).

So the final price is 1€/Led + 1,50€ shipping.
I had hopes that we could get below the 1€ but he was not willing to go further. But we get bare unburned Leds. And thats a good thing after reading djozz test (the led was soldered to hot and that could damage the led. Especially if you have to reflow the led a second time to get it on a DTP board).

I try to imagine a lightbar with all 40 of this UV Leds on copper DTP boards, pushed to 1500mW real output power.
The lightbar would come with at least one of this stickers Evil

Will you be sharing payment information soon? Or, wait until you have the LEDs in hand?

Thanks again for doing this little GB!

It will probably take a few weeks for the leds to arrive. The faster shipping option was way to pricey. I feel better to take your money if i can give you the leds in return. But you can decide for yourself. I will send out the paypal information in the next few days.

And no thanks needed. I got my leds also cheaper. And i do not have a bunch of leds left. So eveybody winns!

Ok, I got the leds in.

And there’s complications. This is how the leds look, it is not the same led that the OP is about.

1) it is a LG led alright
2) it has the narrow 55 degrees emission dome
3) it is from a newer generation than the led that I tested, with, if specs are compared, almost double the output at 500mA ( LEUVA35T01TL00, 385nm Narrow, 1100mW typ. at 500mA)

The newer generation with better output (I would still have to test what the real world performance is) is pretty cool of course. But that it is the narrow emmission version may be not cool for some.

So perhaps the folks who have signed in and even payed for these leds should post how they like them, especially of course TheOnlyDoc and alpg88, who will get the bulk of the leds.

(ok, I’ll start: I had no ongoing project for these so I just love what’s going on Party and would not mind getting 8 of these instead of the 3 that I signed in for)
