Q8 Dual footprint, quad LED copper DTP LEDboard interest List

Indeed a new driver must be made, and to avoid having to use 18350 cells, you need to re-work the battery compartment for a 2S2P set-up.

This mod is not for the lazy one! (lazy1=me :innocent: )

The TA drivers already have drivers that will work with 2s and 4s setups. Although a good buck driver would be nicer and the GT design could be adapted fairly easily for the task.

Reworking the battery setup is really not that hard, just a matter of drilling a hole and then screwing a bolt into the driver to allow it to spin. Then minor soldering like any other mod. I was actually surprised just how easy it was to set it up for 2s or 4s. I still wish they came like this from the factory.

Not an easy mod but not that hard either. No special tools are needed past a drill.

Add me for qty 2 to the interest list. The Q8 is a wayy better host than any other SRK's out there.

Boy TA, you got my interest peaked now. I never understood it all quite before. I got a couple SupFire L1's that I'd like to try this with - 5 LED's, 5 XHP50.2's. The L1 is more chunky than a typical SRK. Got to order your boards and some parts...

Yeah, the xhp50.2 would make for a nice soda can light. I figure it could sustain around 6,000 lumens fairly easily and give a pretty darn reasonable runtime at ~10k lumen before it overheats (basically the same amount of time as the stock Q8).

The driver conversion is not that bad either, although for the Q8 either a special board would have to be made for the screws they are using or you would need to glue it down.

Thanks TA, I’m not sure I quite understand this but I’m sure I’ll be able to figure it out when the time comes.

I would take at least one for XHP50 / 70 6V

For XP-Footprint is no need.

This post makes me very interested in one of the boards. I’m getting two Q8 lights with the idea of modding one and this would make it a fun and worthwhile project.

I’ve done more than my fair share of soldering and wiring with guitar effect pedals and other musical instrument-related stuff. I’m hoping that once this is real, there might be a modding thread showing just how it’s supposed to be done using smaller parts and a hell of a lot more power than a 9-volt powered stompbox.

I'd be interested, depending on price. My preferences would be a) guaranteed integration with the stock reflector. (Maybe that's obvious). And b) one of the pad sets should be configured with whatever y'all think are the most future proof option. Is there a latest best from Cree or Nichia?

The 5050 and 7070 footprints make the most sense. The 3535 is taken care of with the stock mcpcb, and other footprints are not really suited to the Q8 as they would be low output.

I’m interested in 1.

I’d like to see the XHP50.2.

I got a answere regarding the MCPCB.
:
DTP,2mm copper, 38mm diameter,we can give price 2USD to 2.5USD/pcs,mainly according your order quantity. And we mininum order is 500USD,
if less than 500USD,we will charge engineer fee.Because although small quantity,we also need some process, hope you can understand.

So the boards are way cheaper than we thought. But at this price we have to take a lot of boards to get to the min order. I will ask for the engineer fee when i am back from the Vet.
I hope it is not the last way that i and my 15year old Cat have to go but it is not looking good

:frowning: keep strong!

That will work on the XM footprint - unless you’re wanting to use the optional 12V application of the XHP50.

The “worst” case for that $500USD minimum is if the price is $2USD, it would take 250 of them. That’s not bad, really. There are already over 1000 Q8’s reserved.

For that great price, I would take 3 or more.

With this high amount of MCPCBs, 200-250 pcs, would it be possible to make half of them with 46mm diameter? That would be great for other SRK-Style Flashlights without shelf.

I don’t think they can “split” the minimum order requirement. It is the minimum per size/shape I think.

I wonder what the engineering costs are. If I remember well, it was 50 dollar or so, which makes the price at 100 pieces still only 2.50 a piece. Selling 100 will be easier than selling 250.

But having these boards made requires the financial investment (including risk!) plus the will to do the distribution. As I understand, TheOnlyDocc is not going to do that (which is his good right). And having sent out 25 packages during Clemence’s first Nichia group buy, I’m not looking forward to another 50+ either. :weary:
Who’s jumping in?

$500 usd is really not that bad at all. In fact this is a case where you might be able to talk banggood into doing the actual order (they may even have another better/cheaper option) and they can sell these as add-on items with the Q8’s.

If they were to sell them for $4-5 each they would sell for sure, particularly with the initial GB and they would only have to sell 100 of them to make the investment back.

I think selling 100-200 of these out of ~1500 Q8’s in the GB would be very reasonable if available to ship as an add-on item. a lot of the modders would get one, just to have it for later.

Well, financial risk isn’t necessary. Make everyone pay up front. That’s been done before around here, and is the ‘normal’ way in retail business anyway. The packing/shipping part is the monster.

EDIT: Great idea Texas_Ace! ^

Yes shipping is a problem
Banggood is a good idea.
