Convoy X3 run time on AA battery

Hello,
There is nice promotion of Convoy X3.
http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_641312.html
I want to buy one use it with 3xAA and left in my car. The only concern is what is runtime on high mode with Ni-Mh battery?
It is written 3A to diode, so it means more than 3A consumption from battery.
I think this is too much for this type of battery and runtime will be very low.

chances are Nimh wouldn’t be able to provide full 3A on a Nanjg board so runtime shouldn’t be an issue.

How about buying a simple 18650 light with a micro-USB charging port?
for example: http://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_604347.html

Put a cable in it once a month and you will always be on the safe side.

The idea behind NiMH batteries for me would be our summer time heat where the truck can reach 130F+ and wintertime cold where we dip down to –10 to –20F on some really bad nights. Lithium Ion do not like storage conditions like that. I keep a V4A in my truck during the the worst months. I may have to bite on this one.

For an emergency use flashlight I would not recommend rechargeable. There’s no way I could remember or even be willing to recharge a light stuffed away in a glove box. 18650 lights that take cr123 are great for this kind of light. Primary lithium batteries hold their charge for many years. If rechargeable are needed, eneloops are the next best thing.

What about those 1.7v Energizer lithium? I pack those in my AA lights

Lithium primaries would work just as well.

Can I change driver with BLF X6? There is a mode 50% max wich is apropriate for this case.

Why not buy a dedicated 4xAA light that is designed with AAs in mind? The Thorfire TK4A has excellent brightness on Turbo and insane run times. It has been clocked at 10-11 hours on Medium by BLF reviewers. Not sure if the coupon code is still active, but it brought it down to $32 on Amazon.

Thorfire TK4A Review

Also, FWIW, I’ve read mixed reviews about whether or not AAs work properly in the X3.

Are there good price in China sites or Amazon Europe?

Yeah I believe you can get the Thorfire TK4A or Sofirn SF11 on Aliexpress for pretty cheap.

Full disclosure: There is some on-going discussion in another thread about the TK4A runtimes. On medium it may be closer to 5.25 hours (versus 11 hours). Still pretty good but I want to make sure you’re aware.

I found it on 26$ in Ali which is super.
No,I do not care if it is 5 or 11 hours.
Prefer to have good tint. As warm as posiible.

My TK4A is about 5700K which is pretty neutral but not warm. Not sure how this compares to the other 4xAA lights on the market.

Thrunite TN4A has a Neutral White option but I can’t find the actual color temp. Nitecore has the EA41 but not sure about color on that either and Nitecore tends to be on the cool side.

5700K is OK for flashlight which will live in my car.
Consider it could be broken or stolen I care more for the price. Ofcourse it should not be rubbish either.

I have the x3, I bought to use aa’s with. It only runs for a couple of minutes before it draws more amps than the aa’s can supply and starts flashing indicating low voltage. If you never use high I guess it would be ok but I just bought some 18650’s and use 1 of them instead.

Finaly decided to give some more money and ordered Thrunite TN4A XPL NW.
I like Thorfire TK4A, but will buy one when they offer NW tint.

Do you know what the actual color temp of the Thrunite is? I couldn’t easily find it on their product page.

I have TC12 XPL NW and TN4A XPL HI NW and can say it is different. TC12 has warmer tint below 5000K, TN4A has neutral tint over 5000K. Actually I prefer XPL HI because the temperature shifting from center to periferial is less than XPL. If it was Nichia 219C it will best choise, but what to do.
