Cheap bare 385nm UV LED

What is everyone’s primary purpose of using these UV LEDs? For observation of UV reactive surfaces, curing epoxy, …?

For me it has no purpose, it is just the hobby of collecting wavelengths, and for each wavelength I try to make a highest output flashlight :innocent:

(an example for this led : my first soup can mod: 9xLG385nm )

i’ll take 20

Dang that’s sweet! Perfect for the SRK clone i have sitting here!

Can i change my request to get a total of 6? Thanks!

@alpg88
Would it be ok for you to take only 15 so we are not having /lot left over?

sure, 15 it is.

Dam Jos i did not see your 385nm SKR mod. Nice output!
To bad that a Quad reflector will not fit the Wall-E light. But with 3W+ real 385nm light output it should be good for curing the UV plastic i ordered from ZHANLIDA Online Store. I use some of their glues for month and now i wanted to test the UV plastics they have. Two of the three are on the way.

Update.
Yesterday i asked the seller for a better price because we take 40 leds without the PCB so he do not have to solder them on the boards and can keep the alu boards. A few days ago we arranged a small discount if i take 2 lots /20leds. But the final price i got this morning was more than the price for 2x 2 lots - the discount. It was 1€ less than the normal price with the alu boards. So i want to wait what he has to say to this.
The content of what i finaly asked him is, if its normal that the price/pcs goes up if i order more + saving him time and money (no soldering needed and 40 boards he can keep).

So now we agreed on a new price and i hope that we can get the payment done today. Its not the price i wanted but its better than before.
When the money it send and i got the ordering confirmation i will give you the final price.

Thanks!

So the final price is 1€/Led + 1,50€ shipping.
I had hopes that we could get below the 1€ but he was not willing to go further. But we get bare unburned Leds. And thats a good thing after reading djozz test (the led was soldered to hot and that could damage the led. Especially if you have to reflow the led a second time to get it on a DTP board).

I try to imagine a lightbar with all 40 of this UV Leds on copper DTP boards, pushed to 1500mW real output power.
The lightbar would come with at least one of this stickers :smiling_imp:
,

Will you be sharing payment information soon? Or, wait until you have the LEDs in hand?

Thanks again for doing this little GB!

It will probably take a few weeks for the leds to arrive. The faster shipping option was way to pricey. I feel better to take your money if i can give you the leds in return. But you can decide for yourself. I will send out the paypal information in the next few days.

And no thanks needed. I got my leds also cheaper. And i do not have a bunch of leds left. So eveybody winns!

Last Update. The leds are out of China and on the way to djozz.

Its one step closer.

Now it should not take to long anymore!

Ok, I got the leds in.

And there’s complications. This is how the leds look, it is not the same led that the OP is about.

  1. it is a LG led alright
  2. it has the narrow 55 degrees emission dome
  3. it is from a newer generation than the led that I tested, with, if specs are compared, almost double the output at 500mA ( LEUVA35T01TL00, 385nm Narrow, 1100mW typ. at 500mA)

The newer generation with better output (I would still have to test what the real world performance is) is pretty cool of course. But that it is the narrow emmission version may be not cool for some.

So perhaps the folks who have signed in and even payed for these leds should post how they like them, especially of course TheOnlyDoc and alpg88, who will get the bulk of the leds.

(ok, I’ll start: I had no ongoing project for these so I just love what’s going on  and would not mind getting 8 of these instead of the 3 that I signed in for)

I like it! The 55° emission dome is even better for me. So i am happy. And i will not complain about getting a newer generation with more output.
I send a PM to all on the list.
And i contacted the seller and asked for the flux and voltage bin. But ~1400mW at ~700mA is dam hot! My DD tripple could get really hot :smiling_imp: . I am eager to see what this led can do on a copper MCPCB at 1 amp+. If i had to guess i would say that the tripple could get easy 4-5W real 385nm output.
Maybe i should get one of this stickers for the light

does it mean they wont work as good with tir? i’m planing to use PMMA triple from ledil, i used it before with 365nm leds. but those had 120*

It will be an surprise how they behave in a TIR. I do have a Ledil Cute and a 32mm Noctigon board I could check, but it will take another week before I actually have time to do the experiment.
